Cut the grass!
I've played this course many times in the last 5 years and we really like playing there close to home and a good value. One of the most important things you can do for a golf course is cut the grass. I do know in hot weather leaving it a little tall is the way to go but when your customers loose balls right in the fairway they aren't going to play the course. I lost a dozen balls within 10 feet of the fairway and that's not right.
Also it's the only course I've seen they let groups play with 5 carts on one round....really it's hard to believe. I understand people are members and they try to play best ball but it's ridiculous. Two cars four people it's a rule on every course we play but not Sun Valleys.
Sorry wish I could give it a better review because we love the course and more yet the people that work there but I can't afford to keep loosing balls and being disappointed we love the game and it's never any fun especially when you hit a beautiful drive and then loose the ball.
Excellent Value
The course is in the best shape that I have seen it. Greens were excellent and rolling moderately fast.
Fairways were just right. The rough was a little high but you could still find your ball without much difficulty. A lot of rain lately.
I highly recommend it. I think it's the best value in the area. It's about a 50min. drive for me but worth it.
Fabulous setting for Fall golfing
This course is tucked away in the countryside, but well worth your drive to check it out! Very friendly staff in the clubhouse and the grounds crew. Plays long and includes a challenging par 6 that is 700plus yards from the tips. Lots of great elevation changes that make this a beautiful layout.
Whoa!!!!
Bring your "A" Game...course is challenging, yet nit too overwhelmingly difficult. I suggest using your Irons off most of the Tee's unless your Driver is MASTERED. Overall Sun Valley is a joy to play, most of the greens are in excellent shape, fairways could use a bit of TLC on a few holes. Will definitely be back for more!!!
Surprisingly nice
Weather didn’t cooperate but we still enjoyed the course. Want to go back soon to see the fall colors as the views are beautiful even not in the fall. Course was challenging, especially the greens. Overall good course and very reasonable. Worth the drive!
People are mIssing out
Everyone has an excuse why they don't want to play Sun Valley, it is too far, it is a cow pasture. They are so wrong and I really believe that because it is a very challenging course, and you need to bring your game in order to make it through. Plus when you are standing on some of the tee boxes the scenic display will really take your breathe. I would recommend it to everyone, GO PLAY it I you will change your mind set.
Thank you so much for your great review of our course! We really appreciate it! We are so glad you enjoyed your time with us here at Sun Valley and hope to see you again soon!
Please make it rain
Have always loved this course. Challenging, value and usually in good condition. Not so much this year. Fairways and greens are in good shape, BUT the condition of the rough is atrocious. Dried out and non-existent in many places. Makes it rather difficult to keep your ball in play when combined with the hilly contour of the course. The tee boxes are also in terrible condition. Ground is so hard you can barely put a tee in the ground. The recent hurricanes should have come here. This place could use the water.

Always Good
I really like playing Sun Valley, it is a challenging course the greens are always smooth and quick. The staff are always very helpful and friendly. It is nice to get out there and be away from homes and fencing and still be able to concentrate on the game.
Thank you for your great review of our course. We really appreciate it! We're so glad you enjoyed your time out playing with us at Sun Valley and hope to see you again soon!
Great surprise
With the location being very rural, I did not expect much. But, the Gary Kern Design is very unique and has quite a few memorable holes. I would definitely make Sun Valley a regular. Really enjoyed the round.

Great option off the beaten path
I'll admit that I had modest expectations on my first visit to this course. Now you won't mistake the experience here for a private club our premium gulf coast golf as Sun Valley shows obvious signs of wear, especially around the clubhouse. However, for most golfers it's all about the golf, right?
A quick tour: nice couple of warm-up holes before biting off three challengers including the brutes which are the long par 4 fourth and the monstrous PAR 6 fifth. Count me in the camp that views this as a gimmick hole,, but it is a unique experience. The course then settles in as a series of par 3's and 4's - only one par 5 the rest of the way - featuring many great shortish par 4's and dramatic elevation changes on the par 3's. This is not a walking course! The loan par five on the back nine is quite narrow which highlights the superior vistas on the inward 9. Take a pause on the 12th green to admire the views!
Greens were perfect and only a wee bit on the slow side. Typical and smart for the heat of the summer in the Midwest.
Fairways generous enough for the novice to average golfer. A nice variety of holes and tee positions.
Rough not overly lengthy, again a move to help find errant shots and keep the round moving.
Bunkering was the weakest on course aspect. Not sure if that was a true sand or some sort of clay and sand mix. Hard and crusty in the few I "observed". I suggest avoiding them!
Staff was friendly and welcoming.
I most certainly plan to return and if you are in the St. Louis area I suggest the short trip northwest. No 5-5 hour round here as pace of play was unrushed, yet brisk.

Outstanding country golf course
My wife and I really enjoyed the Sun Valley Golf Course this past week. It has some rather unique holes which makes it a real pleasure to play. We hated to see the golf day end. We will definitely play there again...
