Best public course within 90 mins of west central IL
Tanglewood is challenging but in tremendous shape. The zoysia tee boxes and fairways are pristine. Fairways are very dense with a very hard sub-surface so if you have a steep angle of attack on your swing, you're going to struggle. They are rolled, too compacted, and not forgiving unless ball striking is perfect. They don't even give you divot fixing sand on the carts for the fairways and that's because it's impossible to take a divot in the fairway. Plus side is the ball rolls a long way on thin shots. ;-) You quickly learn you have to pick the ball cleanly. Play would be much more enjoyable if the zoysia fairways were cut longer.
The young staff on Saturday were overwhelmed, not friendly, and couldn't make correct change from cash. We had 3 golfers and booked a tee-time online but they added a single to our group without telling us, which is very unprofessional. Like most golfers, our 4th was friendly and fortunately played at the same ability we did.
Pace of play was awful as the round took 5 hours. We had a 5some in front of us who were Shankapottamuses and waited until the green cleared on Par 5's when they were 280 out lol. Holiday weekend and perfect weather so the course was very busy to be fair.
I still highly recommend on course conditions and layout alone, but might be more enjoyable during the week.

First time playing this course. We loved it. Course was driver friendly, nice wide fairways and big greens. Tee boxes, fairways and greens were perfect. We will definitely be back
Course is in great shape. Enjoyed playing here. Visiting from out of town. Too bad, would like to play here again. Everyone was friendly.

Great conditions as always! Cart pathetic only made it extremely painfully slow!
Nice course
Friendly staff, beautiful course. There are some blind holes that will allow you to be hit into or hit into someone else when a lot of people are on the course. Would recommend and will be back.
Always a great value and in good shape
My go to course, even if not the closest course to home. Fairways and greens were superb. Small issue with some of the tee boxes being patchy with no grass areas. Very unusual for this course as normally they are as excellent as the fairways. Pace was slow but due to gorgeous day and a holiday so not the courses fault, just the day. Greens played slower than normal today, but was told they were prepping for a tournament. Sunk an 85 footer so they still puttrd true. It still remains my favorite course in the area and I'll go back soon.
