Great Course
Course is in great shape and wasn’t busy at all. Staff is great.
Odd day
My one major complaint: They forced us out 20 min early and wouldn’t let us warm up whatsoever. Nobody likes getting out of the car and on to the first tee box without so much as a stretch! Got there early to have a beverage and warm up, putt, chip and was told to forget that and hurry and immediately tee off because we were there. I couldn’t even use the bathroom which forced me to use the course john so don’t even get me started on how crappy the whole round felt as a result. And after all that pressure, we were stacked up by the 5th hole behind a twosome. Didn’t get my money’s worth that’s for sure. Was already 10 over through a rushed 6 when I finally got comfortable. Wasted the card. Otherwise, bartender, cart girl and course were great. Bunkers looked well kept (but I stayed out of them thankfully). Hats off to the course super and the twosome I was paired with were gentlemen.
What a beauty!
I played this course with my father who had never played there because for the longest time it was a country club. The course is extremely challenging and it was a chilly, wet morning which made it even more difficult. It is an old course so it has very mature trees but as long as you stay in the fairway, you can really get to the greens. There was quite a bit of wind that day and it definitely affects your ball flight on almost every single hole. The pro shop staff were extremely courteous and informative. The carts were in fantastic condition and even though we couldn’t get to the range because of the rain, the short game area and putting clock were in great condition. I will definitely play here again. $25 for Veterans, First Responders, and Active-Duty on M-W-F !!!
Great bang for buck
Not the longest track. But really makes you consider club selection. Long straight hitters can score low without struggle. But your average golfer needs to think about how they approach each hole. For the money it’s worth every penny
Hillcrest
Came in from Az staff is not friendly try another course
Beautiful scenery. Long, hilly course
Most holes are around 400yds. A fun course. Rolling tree-lined hills. Fairly quiet on weekdays.
Limited refreshments at pro shop. Restaurant and Bar are currently being remodeled. Saw a Red-tailed hawk on the sign for the 18th tee.
Not what I would expect for a Donald Ross Course
Kind of surprised when we arrived as there appears to be a bag drop area but not really. Then an attendant brought us a card, he was very nice guy,. So I park the car and walk over and enter the clubhouse. That same attendant was there and asked if we wanted some beverages. Yes, told him what I was looking for and he brought them into the pro shop in a cooler filled with ice. I tipped him $5 and went happily on my way.
First tee is a par 3 and realized that the course was not being taken care of. The left side of the fairway was a waste area in need of a cleanup and TLC. The greens are small (Thanks, Donald Ross) and rolled well. But the fairways are a mess. Cut grass, missing patches and strips, hard as a rock mostly although next to one elevated green 100 feet above the fairway was pooling water that has no where to go. The course is very short and poorly marked. 150 yard markers are painted on the cart paths and on one hole, I believe #7, there were two 150 yard markers. One was for hole #7, the other for hole #8 but not marked which one was for which hole. My better half who is new at golf was very disappointed as I told her about the great architect who designed this course built in 1916. Tragic that it was left to decay. So we played maybe 12 holes and went home, planning our next outing and hoping that other reviews on Golf Now! would be more accurate..
Awesome Course. Bad Attitudes
The ranger on the first tee was extremely rude because we were two minutes late to the tee box due to THEIR pro shop having technical issues with payment. Told us four or five times to stop messing around and tee off. By hole 4 we were waiting on every hole. Guy was a real piece of work.
History speaks volumes
What a great course. Challenging, yet at times forgiving. The history of the place , the pin placement and the tree lines, will keep yoo honest and coming back for more
One of KC’s best hidden secrets
Definitely not for a novice golfer. I’m mean you’ll love the course, but she is tough and takes another of placement. Best greens in KC as of 4/11. Keep up the good work guys.
Hillcrest to pricey
Greens were in great shape, very fast and rolled true. New bunkers were a nice addition. Rest of the course was just average/ below average although they do appear to be working very hard to get in good shape. Biggest complaint for me was the cost, $44 to walk and you can drive about 2 miles to play swope for $20 cheaper. And they are very similar courses.
Hillcrest is coming back up life
Played on a beautiful but windy April Day, very pleased with the effort the management has made since it took over from great life. The bunkers are in great shape fluffy white sand and the greens run true and fast. Course is a gem but challenging especially if your not hitting your shots straight off the tee.
