More Course Yardage Markers, Please!
I love Bear Creek and have been playing it since it opened 20+ years ago. I also love its designer, Gary Kern, and play so many of his tracks in our STL metro area as well as Jackson, MO (Bent Creek). But Bear Creek is SO poorly marked for yardage markers that when it's a cart path-only day it makes for a long day even longer when it doesn't need to be. On all par 4s and 5s there are 200, 150 and 100 markers somewhere near the middle of the fairway, but just one. And some are buried to the point that they're hard to see and find. Just a simple swath of paint on the cart path indicating those three yardages to give you a clue would be so simple and save soooo much time for everyone. Pace of play is one of the biggest complaints in golf and Bear Creek could improve theirs greatly with a small can of blue, white and red paint to add to their hard-to-find marker plates in their fairways (at least in the winter). But otherwise a fantastic course.
Good course but slow today
The course is OK given the cold winter and yet to have spring. However the pace of play was very poor. Carts on cart path only really slow things down, worse than just walking where you go straight to your ball. I've been here before in summer where I've really enjoyed the course. But not when the pave of play is as slow as it was today.
Staffeas very friendly. Restaurant was excellent. Course was in good shape considering we are only March
Place is getting better all the time.
So glad to see the hard work paying off at this course. Lots of trees cleaned up, new pieces of cart path, new drains put in all the bunkers, a few traps filled in. The course maintenance department head, Ben, is a great fit here. Thanks for all you guys do to keep improving.
Soso
Not too bad I guess for the time of season. Greens were rough and fuzzy but not too bad. Fairways were ok but most of the bunkers we’re unplayable although it appears that they have been working on them as they have have improved since a couple of weeks ago!
November Golf
Course is in good shape for late fall. There was a group of 5 in front of me that slowed down play dramatically. We just had snow a couple days prior and cart paths were slick. Hole 10 has some drainage issues in the fairway. Greens were in great shape. Always have fun at this course and staff is very friendly
First time good time
First time out to the course was worth it. It was cold, a bit windy, and very golfers were out there today. I really like the layout of a lot of the holes. Very well designed. Fairways were a bit thin and tee boxes were recently plugged so not ideal. However a bit expected for the time of year. I would happily play the course again considering the $30 price.
Good value Nice Course
Needed a place to play while visiting my son. I booked a single but asked the shop if he could pair me up with another group. Met three nice people thaT way. The course was in good condition pace of play was good. We did have a slow patch near the end of the front nine. But, the group ahead let as through at the turn. Nice interesting layout. I would play it again.
Course is in great shape
Like this course they keep it very nice. The sand traps need some work.
Cold Fall Day
Even though we had 24 hours of rain, the course was in great shape. It was slightly soggy in some spots but overall drainage was very good. I would of rated excellent for course condition, however, the bunkers looked more like water hazards and the one other one shot that were dry were like concrete. This course is a great value and a good use of all the clubs in your bag
4 out of 5 because.....
Great course and layout. Great value for the price. Only knock is that literally every bunker was rock hard and not playable.
Good Course at a fair price
Every green was in great shape. I was sticking shots all day. A few more yardage Mark's would have been helpful. Had the course to myself on the front nine. Very little waiting during a weekday.
Course was in good shape except for bunkers that for the most part had not been maintained and were lacking sand. Greens were very good and the rest of the course was in decent condition.
