Read the reviews - Poorly managed course!
I read the other reviews on how poorly managed the course was and all the problems, but also read that it was supposed to be one of the best in the area, and I got a great rate so I booked a tee time online at 1:04pm. The time only offered option for 1-2 people so I was assuming I would be paired with another 2some. I showed up to the course at 12:45. The older guy at the counter said "Oh, your a single". I said yes. He then said "well, we have several other singles coming so we will get you out here real quick and told me to go putt or something. I went over to putting green, and after half an hour I came back and asked what was going on. Now there were 2 older guys at the counter and neither one of them knew who I was, or who I was supposed to be paired with. There were several 4somes and 5somes that had teed off for the last hour. 1 Older guy said, we can take you out 3 or 4holes and just have you start there. I said, Are you kidding, the course is packed, you would have no where to "fit" me in. He then told me to just follow the 5some on the tee, and ask people to play through. There were many other problems with the poor management of the course by what appears to be retired guys who want free golf, but I only have so much time.
As for the best course around. The course has a good layout, but is not in great condition. To many "muni" players tearing it up. Tees were OK. Fairways were very thin and bare in some spots. Greens were good though. While a good layout, the course is not much of a challenge for the better player, thus it draws a lot of newer golfers.
Pace of play was terrible and course condition was average at best. If you are a better or even average player and are wanting to have a good time on a decent track while enjoying your round, find somewhere else. This was the first time I played here, and it will be the last.
We are very sorry to hear that you had a bad experience when you visited our course, especially for your first visit. We apologize for the lack of communication among our staff and the issues with pairing you with another group. This is typically not our normal procedure and we apologize for that. We hope you will find another time to visit and see that this is not the normal way we run our business. We appreciate you at least giving our course a chance. Thanks for playing at Bear Creek!
Slow !!!!!
Took 5 hours 15 min on a Friday afternoon. That is slow !
We are very sorry about the slow pace of play on the day you played. We have been working hard to resolve this issue. With the holiday weekend, we found ourselves to be pretty busy for a Friday afternoon. We hope you will visit us again in the future and for a faster round next time. Thanks for playing at Bear Creek!
Nice Layout!
First time I played this course and I really liked the layout and course condition. The greens were quite large, rolled true, and were fairly fast. The only negative was that the bunkers were in pretty bad shape - low on sand so were hardpan or crusty. Would not be good for walkers as there are some holes that have a long way between greens and the next tee. I will definitely play this course again!
Thank you for your review! We are very happy to hear that your first experience with us was a good one! We appreciate the feedback on our bunkers and will pass that along to our maintenance crew. We look forward to seeing you again in the future! Thanks for playing at Bear Creek!
Twosome Review
Fairways were in really good condition for so early in the season. Greens were fast but true.
Thank you for your review! We appreciate your recommendation of our course and are glad you had a good experience with us. Thanks for playing Bear Creek!
Friendly kind staff
Wedding reception kept us from using the restrooms upstairs. Had to share one toilet in the basement with a line of six men waiting to use the same restroom.
We apologize for the inconvenience of the restroom facilities. Our upstairs Banquet Room, that is typically used for open play golf traffic, has larger restroom facilities, but was unavailable while you were visiting our course due to a booked event. The Lower Level Room only has a single restroom that we use when the upstairs is booked. We apologize for the inconvenience, but are happy to see that the rest of your experience was good. We hope to see you again in the future! Thank you for playing Bear Creek!
Mixed feelings
The course is in good shape and has challenges on course, but rules seem to be very strict both times I have played. Most recent time I played I was told not to get on the course until staff told me where to go. was driven around course and told to start on hole 4. The course plays so slow. As a single it too me almost 4 hours to finish. One positive was that when I returned to pro shop to be told where to go to finish the 3 holes I missed I was told I could play as much as I wanted until it got dark and sent to back 9..good course but you have to devote too much time to play one round.
We apologize for the slow pace of play when you visited our course. We have been working very hard to resolve this issue, which is why we have had to add additional regulations for traffic. We are glad that our staff was able to accommodate the slow round with an alternative in additional holes. We hope you will visit again in the future and for a faster round next time! Thanks for playing Bear Creek!
Slow Play
The pace of play was unacceptable. We were on the course for 3 1/2 hours and completed only 13 holes. Faced with the prospect of another wait on the 14th tee box (there was a group on the green, a group in the fairway and another group in addition to us on the tee box). I realize any course can face a day of slow play. But this was ridiculous. The most unacceptable thing, however, was the lack of concern and rudeness of the personnel when we mentioned our situation. The marshal actually told us the course was wide open! When we told the group in front of us (with whom we visited on every tee) and the group behind us (also, visited on most tees), they were as shocked an unhappy as we were.
We are very sorry to hear that the pace of play on the day you visited was slow. We are aware that there is a slow pace of play on certain days and are working hard to resolve the issue. Our staff does care that our customers are unhappy with the pace of play procedures and promise you that your experience was not our typical procedure. We hope you will find time to visit again to see that this is not always the case. Regardless, thank you for coming out to visit Bear Creek - we hope for your next visit you are able to play at a more acceptable pace.
Great course
The course was in great condition and I love that it has tee boxes for every type of player. We had a great time and really enjoyed this course.

Great Course
One of my favorite courses to play in the St. Louis area. It's always in great shape and the scenery is beautiful.
Thank you for your recommendation! We are happy to hear that you enjoy our course and its scenery. Thanks for playing Bear Creek!
Buyer Beware... Bear Creek
Let me start by saying this seems to be a policy for Golf Now patrons. As you get to the clubhouse and check-in, you'll find that you have your name on a cart. This in itself causes issues as sometimes you can get the key or sometimes the key is released to your playing partner. This means that you'll have to hoof it with your clubs to the first tee box across the street (just a big inconvenience#. The staff is nice and generally helpful but if you're Golf Now patron the staff will not allow you to tee off until your time regardless if the course is empty. When asked the staff will give you a story about inventory control. Really? I saw the loss of green fees every ten minutes I waited and the tee box didn't have players on it. They surely had the possiblity of a walk up buying that tee time if they released the players that were ready to play.
In addition, the staff also has given the reason that they won't let you go off early as a twosome yet we allowed several twosomes and singles through only because twosomes and singles play quicker than foursomes (3 hours 50 minutes for our round but what do you know...the ability to speed up the coruse and create more inventory to sell). It's true that Golf Now prices are lower but the management doesn't seem to see that it's loss leader and they probably shouldn't sell the tee time at that price. If you get a cheap rate expect to be treated similar to a passenger on an airline when using points on a 3 star carrier...kinda' like a hostage not a customer. The course was in decent shape and shot a 75...lucky I have a short memory. So until the policy changes ... buyer beware.
We apologize that you had a bad experience when visiting us at Bear Creek. The policy you described is applicable to trade times through Golf Now, which was not properly explained to you at the time of your check-in. Next time you visit, we will be happy to talk about this with you. We hope that you will find another time to come out and visit the course and see that this is not always our policy. Still, we thank you for coming out to the course and playing at Bear Creek!
Booked a hot deal
Course was in great shape for April and a lot of rain in the past week. Staff let multiple foursomes ahead of my groups tee time, and we were ready to play. Staff members weren't rude or anything, but they had an odd way of doing some things
Tough when weather is rough
I played with 2 other friends on a day we all should have gone to a sports bar and watched golf on TV instead. Regardless , we had a great time , because " any day you can play golf is a good day " ! This always a tough course because of the length for the average golfer and when the weather is cold , windy and rainy it makes it a test of your sanity. I'll go back again for sure but wait for a nicer day.
excellent course
Played in March, fairways still not green. Great layout. Greens were in great shape smooth and quick. Bunkers also in great shape. Was cart path only but not bad. Overall was staff was great can't wait to return often.
Nice track for the money
Played Bear Creek for the first time in 4-5 years after being in a private club. My wife and I were pleasantly surprised at how challenging it was and given a little TLC it could be considered a very good course. Granted we played in March and I'm sure as spring rolls in, the course should be in better shape. We enjoyed the layout and will definitely be back.
Not a great round
While it was one of the first beautiful days of the year, 70 and sunny, the rate of play was terrible. Prior to teeing off, @ 230, we were told 18 was playing roughly 4 1/2 hours. Understandable and acceptable for the conditions. Fast forward to 530 when we finally finished the first 9 and stopped into the clubhouse. Sunset was established @ 715. We explained how slow the course was playing, as we were constantly backed up behind 2 sets of 4 somes, and that at that rate of play, there was no chance of finishing in time (we were running about 6-8 min per hole and waiting at least 20 to tee off on the next). We asked if it would be possible to get a credit for 9 as we had paid for 18. We were told that this was not possible unless we attempted to finish 18 and then they'd "see" if they could do anything. Not a great experience.... Poor customer service!
Great course for a low price
I found this course using golfnow the morning of my round. Have seen it advertised by was 30 mins from my house and haven't made the trek yet, but am I glad I did. I paid $15 with tax for my round of 18 plus cart. For it being March with snow and rain pelting the course for the last 2 months it was in great shape. The only negative was condition of sand traps but that's picky. I'm a college student who tries to play where value is and Bear Creek has it. I will be back. Loved the drivable par 4 17th. I played 18 in 3 hrs due to friendly members letting me play thru and being a solo (played two balls as well).
You hit every club in your bag
The coarse was in great shape considering all the wet weather we have had
great golf course
I found this course to be in very good shape for early in the year. The course offers great challenges for the intermediate player with a fair amount o water and sand. Its a enjoyable experience. Ken Seitz
