Greedy Management
I was grouped with a threesome and placed behind a large scramble tournament. In 40 years of golfing this was the worst course experience I have ever had. The pace of play was beyond slow. The threesome I was grouped with quit after six holes. I quit after 15 holes and 5 hours 30 minutes. The management thought it would be a good idea to squeeze a few extra groups in behind their morning tournament.
Poor Management
Course was in decent condition. Way overbooked. They did not have any golf carts available when we got there. Had to wait 15 min past our tee time before any carts were available to use. Took 3-1/2 hours to play 9 holes.
There are no easy holes here
Bear Creek is a fun course to play, and more difficult than the other course in Wentzville.
The tee boxes and fairways were in great shape, and the greens were consistent speed. there are numerous old pitch marks on the greens (why don't people repair them??!!), but not an exorbitant amount.
The lay out is difficult but not penal. Except for #1, there are no obvious birdie holes. There are well placed bunkers and woods and hazards on most holes that require precision off the tee, and plenty of length if you play from the last 3 tee boxes.
One complaint- not many ball washers at the tee boxes. Another- on the par 5#4, the lay up area in front of the creek wasn't mowed to fairway length. A perfect lay up shot leaves you in deep rough.
good, challenging course
When we played the Bear Creek, conditions were less than ideal. Recent heavy rain had left the course very wet, and consequently the course had been unable to mow the fairways leaving them fairly shaggy (not the courses fault). The course was fun to play however, with some challenging holes. The course is a definitely a great value with discounted greens fees.
Challenging, and Fun
Always enjoyable to play even when the mist is coming down. A few holes are in lower areas that hold water, but better than most courses that do not have good draining.
Nice layout, but disappointed with the length if fairway grass.
This course is usually in better condition than it was for this round. The fairways had not been cut in a while, so the course played longer than usual. Greens were in average condition...lots of ball marks left unrepaired.
Slow & Steady
Golf course was in good shape and the rain held off. This was my 4th time playing the course and it has yet to change. I don't know if slow play is because this is in a subdivision and the residents make a day for a round or what. But 5hrs & 35 min for a round is ridiculous, I like the course a lot but I could do without an all day affair for one round.
A New Favorite
For anyone concerned about playing in a residential neighborhood, you don't have to worry here. You will be pleasantly surprised with the layout and the way the designer allowed for maximum distance from the rough to the houses. 7000+ yards was not too long and allowed for almost every club in the bag to be used.
Mow the tee boxes, please
I love this course, very challenging. The rough was very thick, thicker than I remember. My complaint is not about the rough. My complaint is about the tee boxes. I am not exaggerating when I say that some of (most of) the tee boxes had longer grass than the rough. I don't know if they were letting it grow, but it was downright ridiculous. Like I said, I love the course, great set-up, but come on. I was hitting from rough to rough at times. And that was from the tee box. That was my only complaint about the round. Just please, mow the tee boxes before I come back.
Great Condition
This was the second time that I have played this course. It has been extremely well kept. Especially, this late in the season. Play was horribly slow, but that's what you get when you have a foursome that refuses to let others play through. The staff was friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend this to others.
tight fairways
Have to play in the fairway no first cut of rough. Went straight to deep rough. The back opens up a little more. Nice layout and the tee boxes need to be cut down more. Felt like teeing off from the rough
First Time Not The Last Time
First time playing at Bear Creek and what a nice surprise for a public course. The staff is as freindly as could be and was very accommodating.
Course was in nice shape and while it gives you a challendge it is very fair to well hit shots.
I will definetly be back many times I'm sure.
I know how to play with pace
Course personnel borderline annoying about pace. No one behind us for 4 holes but continued to have marshalls and other course personnel stalking on every hole. I am a 14 handicap and know how to play with pace. Refreshment cart girls were very pleasant and far more considerate than others. Course was in decent shape with the exception of greens which were like putting on mine fields at times. Only paid $28 so I guess I can't expect too much. Good company made it a nice day as it is difficult not to enjoy a day on the golf course.
Play early or Late- but not mid morning on Saturday
Played 9am on a Saturday, got stuck behind some pretty slow paced foursomes. I'd recommend playing really early or late in the day. Overall course was great. Hole 3 has a pretty difficult cup.
Too slow
Despite there being multiple open tee times between groups, this pace of play was terrible. Three groups ahead of us quit at the turn and we still needed up waiting 5 to 10 minutes on each shot. We saw the Marshall several times but it didn't seem to help. We ended up quitting after 16.
tough course very crowded
Very long and crowded slow play but well kept would play again with a special pricing
Fun and Playable
Course is a fun and playable course if you keep the ball in play. Tight fairways and trouble abounds, but all greens are in front of you from the tee box so you see what you need to do.
