Cut the GRASS Please
It had been 20 years since I had played Rattle Run. I am very pleased to see the old course coming back. The fairways were excellent, the greens were in terrific shape. My biggest issue was the length of the grass off the fairway. However once I started hitting fairways it was fine.
This course was the perfect getaway on a Thursday morning. I strongly recommend it and will be returning.
Course is improving
This was the first round at Rattle Run this year. It appears that the course is on a track of improvement. This had been a very good course in the past and then was on a downward slide. Glad to see they are getting it back in shape. Will definitely be playing more this season.
owners
new owners seem to want to bring rattle run back...
Course was in bad shape
I usually love this course but when I went to play the other day they did not have fairways for every hole, it was the same length as the rough. There was dandelions everywhere as well which made it look bad. Hopefully they start to maintain it better because it is usually a nice course
The tee boxes are in horrible shape, although the greens seemed to be maintained.
This course has a nice layout and considerable length but it is in dire need of attention. The tee boxes are awful! You're basically teeing off from someone else's divot. The sand traps are mud traps. The greens however, do seem to be maintained. I will not play hear again until the course condition improves! I did get through the round as a single in 3 hours so pace of play was not a problem. I was overjoyed to be done with this round.
Good course for the price
I wouldn't play here for their regular course rate, but for the awesome $16 deal we paid it was well worth it. Hard to tell what condition the course was really in considering it rained pretty heavy the previous two days, but however it was not flooded and in good enough shape to shoot a decent score. A few challenging holes and some elevation changes but overall a fairly simple course. I would go back.
What happened?
This has always been one of the best courses in MI. They have let it dry up. Also they no longer have a liquor license. Indefinitely, according to the lcc signage plastered on the door. We played 18 for $20 and I still won't go back. Unfortunate. I hope they turn it around.
GOOD VALUE
THE NEW OWNERS ARE WORKING HARD TO GET THIS TRACK BACK INTO THE SHAPE IT WAS KNOWN FOR. THEY ARE ALMOST THERE.
Needs some TLC
I believe its under new ownership so I will cut them some slack, but the course was looking a little rough. Always an interesting track to play though.
Once a great course, now needs attention.
Rattle Run used to be a great course. You can see it in the layout. Built on a magnificent piece of land, the layout is very picturesque. Clearly it has seen better days, however. The tee decks are now uneven, bare and gone to weeds. The fairways are hard, dry and also weedy. The greens are still in very good shape, and the ball still rolls true. We played from the black tees, which makes this a very challenging course, but certainly not the claimed 140 slope rating from them. I don't know if it is due to the poor economy in the Detroit area, but this course is in desperate need of a cash-infusion to restore it to greatness. When we played it, they had lost their liquor license, but advertised "we have ice"....clearly part of the reason for the loss of said license. Overall, it was worth the value, but only because we managed to get a GN "Hot Deal" and played it for $13 each, with cart. I sincerely hope that this course gets the attention it needs, as it would be a shame to waste this EXCELLENT layout.
Upscale course, great layout
Some of the best terrain in the Metro Detroit area, anyone who is tired of the flat courses that only offer the occasional dogleg for a challenge should come here, lots of rolling hills, etc. that make playing this course a lot of fun!
Mediocre Course
This course was just average. The tee boxes were in need of work and were pretty firm causing me to break many tees. The sand traps did not have racks near them. Overall the course was maintained but did have some areas that needed attention.
Great course
course was in great shape, well maintained. All the rain we had
you would never know it on this course.Every thing was green and no standing water. Great course
Mike

Course lost it's liquor license on 7/15/13. Bring your own!

Great value and challenge, but lost liquor license
Course was challenging, in good condition and great value. Only problem was that they recently lost their liquor license.
Hidden Gem just north of Detroit Metro
I've played Rattle Run several times. It's not quite an "up north experience," but it is close - and a lot closer to Detroit than "up north."
Several holes require precision shots, where water or trees play major factors to one's success.
Great views and a relaxing setting.
You over hear an airy chuckling voice through the woods, but turn and see no one. The sounds and sights of golf surround you, and in the distance you see another cart of friends or family enjoying this past time, in landscapes that seem rich in history, and the old sound of the wind. The wood, the river bends, and likely a little sand after the full round.
Once Great Course Making a Comeback
The course has a layout which cannot be matched anywhere in metro Detroit. It is one of the few courses around that challenges you to hit long irons, mid irons, and short irons into greens. The pace of play was pretty slow on the front 9 but picked up on the back. My biggest pet peeve is having to wait to tee off on #1 which was the case on this day.. Our tee-time was delayed about 9 minutes. I still believe the fairways should be cut shorter and the greens should be faster to really make this one of the best courses around. For the price, this course is a good value.
