About
Mattawang Golf Club has changed very little since it first opened in 1960. The traditional layout has withstood the test of time as a challenging but playable layout. The course was designed to blend seamlessly into the natural setting while still testing your shot-making skills. You won’t find any man-made water hazards or artificial mounding on this golf course, instead you’ll be challenged by natural streams and ponds and mature evergreens. At first glance, the layout is seemingly wide open, but don’t let your guard down because the fairways are actually quite tight and many of them are strategically lined with trees. In keeping with the time it was built, the greens are smaller than those you would find on most modern golf courses and heavily protected by sand traps. Over the years, Mattawang Golf Club has built a reputation for having some of the well maintained putting surfaces in the area.

Great golf experience
First time and really liked it. The course slowly picked up in challenge and character and I truly enjoyed. Parts of the fairways still wore scars of last years drought, but conditions were good. Will definitely come back.
Fun round
Staff was extremely nice and the course was ok. Greens were airated and not in great sharp. Course was in good condition and was fun to play

Aeration
Did not know it was being aerated and only could play front 9 twice.
Sorry you missed all the course alerts online that stated we were doing the work and you would be playing the same nine twice.
Right place, Right time
We have played Matawang quite a few times prior. Like most any public course, it could be hit or miss with the quantity of golfers and their effect on pace of play. This time we hit it just right. We were a twosome playing a late morning round (Hot Deal) paired up with another two golfers. The groups ahead and behind were spaced out nicely. There was no waiting or feeling of being rushed. We did let a single play through which did nothing to affect our comfortable three and a half hour round.
The course was (is) in great shape. Green, lush, and well manicured. The greens are firm, fast and challenging. Overall a great place to play and a great value even without a discount. The only downside is a lack of amenities in the pro shop. Matawang really could use a small bar/grill for a post round snack/drink. Still it's the right place for a great round of golf.

Great course for great value
Course looks better week after week following last years drought.

Pricey
Greens were good. Still a lot of dead spots on fairways from last year. Challenging course. Just to Expensive. 60 bucks for a single w cart but had to share would not give me my.own. I will play again but only hot deals
I think you will find most courses are more expensive on weekends. Enjoy your hot deals!
Non-flexible starter and/or clubhouse attendant
Our tee time was scheduled @ 1130a. We got there early, around 1040 am. I asked the front desk lady if we could play sooner than our tee time if possible if there was a spot. I asked the starter if we could start earlier than our tee time since we saw that was nobody playing on certain tee times. He said he was going to ask the front desk. He came back and said that since we got a Golfnow hot deal he couldn't do anything. That's a BULL...! We played other courses and they allowed us to play before our tee time if possible. Don't you like things to get moving so that there's no delay. or improve the pace of play. We played here before but this starter was the worse.

Also, it is poor for the pace of play to have two twosomes in the middle of foursomes because one two wants to go out early.

Great Course
The course was great so I have no complaints. The course layout is challenging and the fairways and greens were is great shape. The greens are smallish and elevated which provides protection. The course is a little hard to find but the drive is well worth it as you pass through countys founded as early as 1706. The route I took from my sister's Somerset house tool me over one lane bridges which are common on county roads which displays the rich NJ character.

Decent round after a rainy night
The tees and greens were in good shape with some of the fairways still recovering from last seasons water restrictions but overall the course was in playable shape. Unfortunately, we started behind a 8some so the pace of play was painfully slow and our 4some was frustrated by the turn and the round took us a little bit over 5 hours to finish
We appreciate you taking the time to leave a review. I feel it is important for the readers to realize there are never more golfers then foursomes allowed in a group. So this must mean back to back foursomes and not 8some.
