About
Mattawang Golf Club has changed very little since it first opened in 1960. The traditional layout has withstood the test of time as a challenging but playable layout. The course was designed to blend seamlessly into the natural setting while still testing your shot-making skills. You won’t find any man-made water hazards or artificial mounding on this golf course, instead you’ll be challenged by natural streams and ponds and mature evergreens. At first glance, the layout is seemingly wide open, but don’t let your guard down because the fairways are actually quite tight and many of them are strategically lined with trees. In keeping with the time it was built, the greens are smaller than those you would find on most modern golf courses and heavily protected by sand traps. Over the years, Mattawang Golf Club has built a reputation for having some of the well maintained putting surfaces in the area.

Nice course
Staff very friendly. Greens in excellent shape. Fairways were pretty bad in spots
Thanks for taking the time to leave a review, glad to see you enjoyed the greens and staff. We are doing the renovation work currently to recover from a very tough summer and lack of water.
Delay
The 1.5hour frost delay was absolutely ridiculous. The maintenance man didn't seem to have a clue about what to do.
From your review I guess you do not play much fall/winter golf. Frost Delays are very common from October through early April and there is nothing the grounds crew can do except wait until the frost lifts. Otherwise walking and driving on frost. This is common at every golf course, not just here.
Mattawang
Overall nice facility... course playable but a little beat up in the fairways and rough due to previous draught in NJ... needs repairs in the fairways and rough... nice greens, fairway and rough around the greens... wherever sprinklers reached it was good... play was fun nevertheless... good pace of play...

Beautiful day paired up with two nice gentlemen
A beautiful day my girl and I decided to pair up with two nice gentlemen. We had a great time. After reading the reviews and knowing the course wasn't great shape it was better than expected. Both the fairways and rough were very patchy. The greens are very slow and bumpy. The course was fairly wide open and somewhat easy of a layout. I think there was one gentleman running the whole show. For the price we paid we had a great time on a beautiful day didn't expect a whole lot. If we found we're in a patch we just moved it on better grass.

$25 dollars Max- For this course
Images online ion Golf Now and other web sites representing this course depict the very poor condition of this course…Most times a course would call out poor conditions and adjust price and with this, then golfer can make an informed choice… I feel I got taken on this one. Will not golf here again and would advise the same for others…
Bad day
I've played mattawang many times. Course is usually in tip top shape. For $85 this was highway robbery. Fairways diseased and burnt out. In absolute disastrous conditions. The rate should've been dropped due to poor conditions. I'll be back but probably not until it's in better shape. Everything is about the $ these days.

Fairways are not playable
Played 9/17. Fairways were unplayable, we weren’t even allowed to drive the carts in fairways. Drought conditions and apparent irrigation issues. Greens were in good shape but the course is not playable until fairways are fixed. Can’t believe I payed $80 for this round.
I hate to pile on, but I also played on Saturday. I understand the effect lack of rain can have on a course but Rickh69 is 100 percent correct. The greens were in great shape but the fairways were an abomination. They were beyond dry, entering into baked territory. Until that issue's figured out, I'll be taking my 80 bucks elsewhere.
Rich, sorry to see how unhappy you were on Saturday. Summer and water restrictions hav not been kind to any golf courses in the area,, but the wording of unplayable is overstated. The fairways have suffered but they are not unplayable and the only way we can keep the fairways from becoming that is to keep the carts off of them.
I see you have played here in the past and no one involved here at Mattawang likes our current situation but no one here is to blame and all we can do is try to keep what we have as good as possible.
