Bowling Green Golf Club
About
Bowling Green Golf Club is in the heart of northern New Jersey, surrounded by miles of idyllic countryside. An abundance of mature oaks and towering red pines characterizes the scenic course. This quick, shady layout is a great round for walkers. The golf course has a classic links design that is easily played in less than four hours. Like most traditional links courses, the gently undulating terrain has the perfect pitch and roll. It also provides each hole with unique challenges that require accuracy and strategy. Trees heavily line the fairways, presenting some of the course's most formidable challenges. Bowling Green Golf Club's front nine is slightly more forgiving than the back nine, which incorporates the natural ponds and wetlands on a few holes. There are also some tricky doglegs to contend with.

Terrible round
Usually love to play here. It was a terrible day at the course and must lost over 20 expensive golf balls between myelf and my golf buddy due to massive amount of leaves that has not been cleaned. When you hit the fairway, you can’t find the balls, when you hit into rough? Forget about it. We never got to finish the round because it was tremendously frustrating. Stopped by at the pro shop and spoke to a gentleman name Steve. He was apologetic about it but nothing was done about the terrible round. Waste of a Sunday afternoon and disappointing.
With all the...
..rain the course is a little on the wet side. Otherwise conditions are good throughout. Good food in the clubhouse.
Great deal
Get an early tee time and play in less than 4 hours in a great setting!
Friday Morning Round
Took the day off and headed to Bowling Green. I've played there many times and find it a really enjoyable course to walk. The holes vary from some fairly easy holes to some fairly difficult holes. I haven't met too many people that actually like #4 and while I don't hate it - it is tough to love. Par 3's are all pretty tough with no short ones. Conditions were very good and the rough was rough - thick and made advancing the ball pretty tough. Would definitely play again.
overall a great round
all courses are dealing with too much rain this year
playing conditions were very good considering the maintenence difficultys
Great course, but wet... ohh so wet
I played the front 9 about 10 years ago so i had high expectations. It didn’t disappoint. The staff is great and quick to ensure you’re in good shape. Some challenging tee shots encourage you to keep the driver in the bag and play it “smart” but we were there to have fun, so fired away.
Due to the moisture (drenched) we were restricted to cart path only. I understand the philosophy and value in long-term sustainability of the course but it was very unfortunate for us. The course does not drain well, especially the front 9 besides the stream. It was sloppy and easy to hit it fat. Long walks to the ball, slower play, grips get wet, and the holes were filled with milky brown water that likely contained pesticides and motor oil. It was discouraging to make a 15-20 foot putt because you’d have to reach your hand into the dark, dirty abyss to get the ball... so I just missed most of my putts short left. The greens did not roll well because of the water sitting on them. It wasn’t enough to be deemed casual water (maybe it could have) but you had to drill a putt to get through the wet stuff and get it to the hole. The back 9 had elevated greens so it was better. The front 9 was bad. It’s just overall less enjoyable when in such condition. Still leaps and bounds better than Knoll East. That place is trash in the rain. For Bowling Greens I’d strongly recommend playing on a dry sunny day after the previous day was dry and sunny. DO NOT play in the rain or after a rainy day/week. A beautiful course deserves to be played in fine conditions. I saw her potential and ability to be a top-tier NJ course. I hope you enjoy it!
Good course- Rain soaked
We booked through GN to play 18 holes, but upon arriving at the course we were told only 9 holes could be played because of flooding of the back 9. The front 9 was in good condition with fairly slow greens. The course has been cart path only for 45 days. Check with the course prior to playing to make sure the full course is open.
Great Staff & Atmosphere
Second time playing this course and it did not disappoint. I honestly have nothing but great things to say. It’s been raining a lot lately and all the bunkers were maintained, as well as the greens. Of course some low areas were plugging balls, but for the most part awesome course. The staff was great and understanding about the early morning conditions. Very polite and respectful. 100% recommend to anyone looking to enjoy a good, enjoyable round of golf. Hit em straight!
Extant maintenance.
Good land scape .but green is slow...
Otherwise best course....
Pretty course nice layout
I play over a 100 rounds of golf a year and Bowling Green is my favorite course in NJ. Beautiful course, nice layout, fair but challenging! The staff is friendly and always plays in 4 1/2 hrs or less!
