Bowling Green Golf Club
About
Bowling Green Golf Club is in the heart of northern New Jersey, surrounded by miles of idyllic countryside. An abundance of mature oaks and towering red pines characterizes the scenic course. This quick, shady layout is a great round for walkers. The golf course has a classic links design that is easily played in less than four hours. Like most traditional links courses, the gently undulating terrain has the perfect pitch and roll. It also provides each hole with unique challenges that require accuracy and strategy. Trees heavily line the fairways, presenting some of the course's most formidable challenges. Bowling Green Golf Club's front nine is slightly more forgiving than the back nine, which incorporates the natural ponds and wetlands on a few holes. There are also some tricky doglegs to contend with.

6th Tee Photo submitted by agurango on 05/24/2013
Great Condition
The course was in outstanding condition. I have played here many times over the years and this was probably the best I have ever seen it. It's usually in good shape but this was another level. The greens were true and very quick. Fairways and tees still in excellent shape. Well done to the BG maintenance staff.
Only negative (relatively speaking) today was the pace of play. This is the second time this season where I've been to BG and they were running 10-15 minutes behind on the first tee. The pace on the course wasn't great either until the last 5 or 6 holes. The starter was inexplicably sending twosomes out when he could have easily paired them up. This course usually prides itself on pace of play and does a good job enforcing it, but it has not been good this season.
Still a fun day overall though. BG is a nice throwback to a classic golf course layout.
Very good value for the money
I'm not really enthused about the fact that you have to pay for a cart even if you want to walk. Nevertheless, a few parts of the course were soggy, and the course is pretty out of the way, but I'd play here again. The whole place was in very good condition, and they actually had a ranger who kept the pace very speedy. We were playing as fast as we could, and he still nagged us. That's actually a good thing, because I've played at a lot of places in the NYC area, and many don't have rangers, and even some that do, the ranger does absolutely nothing. So, if you're looking to get around the 18 in about 4.5 hours or so, it can be done here.
Pace of play
Starter said with a straight face, right before we teed off, to try to keep the round between four hours and four hours and 15 minutes. Said we were three minutes off pace after one hole, yet we waited on every shot from the third hole on. we started at 12:30 PM on a Sunday afternoon
Gotta drive it
If it wasn't for the distance for me I'd play Bowling Green more. I've played lots of tree lined courses but BGGTC is top of the list. The challenge is off the tees here. You have to work it both ways. It's not so much of a second shot course. The par threes are long and the pins can border on sucker placement. If you see the superintendent, shake his hand. The course is in beautiful shape. Sure, most anyone can grow grass this year, but tee to green was excellent, including the traps a fair test of golf all can enjoy.
Bowling Green September 2017
The course is in excellent shape and the maintenance personal should be commended for their efforts. I had an early tee time and we were the second group out this day. There was no waiting in front of us or behind. The greens were true and the sand traps were freshly raked. The only drawback was the restaurant did not open until 11am (the club does offer coffee prior to their opening). I am looking forward to my next visit here!
Unfriendly Staff-Overpriced
Staff was extremely rude. Ranger told us we should hit even though the foursome in front was 200 yards away. Stated "you can't hit them". Course is way over priced for the conditions of the course. Better off playing somewhere else for the price.
Nice track
The course was in good shape .it has a fairly challenging layout it was all good except for the ranger who kept pushing and rushing us up on the group ahead of us even though they where horribly slower than us keeping us waiting on every tee box for 5 to 8 minutes and the group behind us was no where to be found , other that I would definitely recommend and go back and play there anytime
Good course has gotten even better.
Not much to describe except that it was very satisfying overall. Great course condition. Greens were perfect. Friendly staff. Reasonable pace of play. Just wish I had better game.
36 Holes in 7 Hours
Got their early enough to hit balls, putt and relax before hand; range is short, too short for driver if your a long hitter. Went out 10 minutes early as a twosome as the other two guys hadn't checked in yet. Course is always very wet in the morning, bring a brush for your cleats, they don't have any on the course and it will be needed if you play early. Course is always in good to great shape. The greens get beat up a little bit, but lets face it, that's because of golfers not repairing ball marks and what not. The layout is challenging, but you can usually find errant shots in the heavily wooded course. Greens can roll tricky at times.
After the first eighteen the starter informed of us a great replay deal and we took advantage. The second time out, the course dried out nicely and greens began to roll much faster even though he informed us the stimp was lower than it usually is.
All in all, I play this course several times a year and after this season will probably go more often due to the friendly staff, great rates, and shape of the course.
Great afternoon
Enjoyed the afternoon first at the Grille room for lunch on the deck. Played an afternoon round where the starter said they like to keep it at 4 hours and he was spot on. The course is more than challenging, I happened to run into some friends that are members at private clubs, that says something. Ended the day with a couple of cold ones. I highly recommend this course.
BG is just as solid as it gets
Not going to spend all day on this one. I usually take time to review tracks that have dropped the ball so my fellow golfers can be wary. But BG is worth a huge positive review. It is simply one of the most playable properly maintained courses out there. Few do it as well as they do. Pace is typicalllly pretty solid. On occasion could be better but nothing traumatic. Overall in my humble obsessed 3X a week golfing opinion top 5/6 courses in possibly Jersey at least up north. That's all. Play here, I think the $75 price point is most fair. $100 is a bit of a stretch here.
Great day!
Perfect weather, no one in front of us to slow us down, greens and fairways are in good shape. I visited the beach way too often but everything was nice. The staff was knowledgeable, courteous and willing to go the extra to please. Nice day!
Awesome
Had a great tim out there was rainy but that didnt stop us. Definitely recommend this course to everyone. Beautiful and very well kept..
Played early. Pace of play was excellent. Completed round as a twosome in 3 hours.
Great Conditions
It's all good. Conditions, layout all terrific. Still a little pricey. Senior deal after 11 am
Solid track, well design layout with great course conditions
Just like the title states, it's solid in every way. Tee boxes, fairways were lush and putts rolled true on greens with little to no bumps. Got to enjoy an early morning round with beautiful weather. Layout is pretty straight forward, what you see is what you get. Greens are well maintained and slopes on them for the most part are benign. Solid shots off the tees will get rewarded here. Lunch afterwards was tasty and our server was super friendly. Only negative was getting paired with a single who struggled just to make contact with the golf ball on every shot. I think it's great beginners have the courage to step foot on the course but this man claimed he was an avid player for years. This is by no means the facility's fault. Overall it was a morning round well spent.
Excellent Course
Enjoyed playing this course. Tough but fair. Loved the challenge of the long par 3s. Staff was friendly. Rangers were out and about doing their jobs. Will definitely play here again.
Pace of Play
Our twosome played the round in just a little more than 3 hours on a warm weekday afternoon. The pace of play is one of the best things about this course -- but don't tell anyone. Whoops.
