Bowling Green Golf Club
About
Bowling Green Golf Club is in the heart of northern New Jersey, surrounded by miles of idyllic countryside. An abundance of mature oaks and towering red pines characterizes the scenic course. This quick, shady layout is a great round for walkers. The golf course has a classic links design that is easily played in less than four hours. Like most traditional links courses, the gently undulating terrain has the perfect pitch and roll. It also provides each hole with unique challenges that require accuracy and strategy. Trees heavily line the fairways, presenting some of the course's most formidable challenges. Bowling Green Golf Club's front nine is slightly more forgiving than the back nine, which incorporates the natural ponds and wetlands on a few holes. There are also some tricky doglegs to contend with.

Always a favorite layout
As has happened in the past when we book a round through GolfNow the Pro Shop staff tries to bump the price or deny the DEAL. This causes friction. If they don't want to list a DEAL on GolfNow they shouldn't. We booked a foursome and have played the course several times in the past ten years. The other issue with the staff is with regard to pace of play. They pride themselves on a 4:15 round. If you have finished the front nine in under 2 hours and are keeping pace with the group in front of you, there is no reason for a ranger to follow your group around. It creates a very uncomfortable feeling. We finished in just over 4 hours. The bar staff was very nice.
Bowling Green
Course was excellent. The only minor issue was the greens, they were a little bumpy. This affected short putts, sometimes dramatically.
Nice course, good deal on GolfNow.
Me and my golf buddies have come here 2-3 times over the last few years. Course is in good shape considering how little rain North Jersey and the Hidson Valley area has gotten this spring. That being said, the fairways were a bit shaggy, which is is totally understandable. If you don't water it and keep it a bit longer, it'll brown out and be a dust bowl.....and then the super loses his job. A bit pricey, but a decent deal can be had on GolfNow.....I paid $24! We will be back.
must play
one of a kind in this area, classy old course. tree lined
the pines, ponds, i always enjoy this course.
very well kept, someone cares and their pride shows.
Tough course. Very tight.
Course is in good shape. But who ever put the pin placement thought the PGA was playing there. There was a high school tournament pin placement was in very difficult places. The course is hard as it is.
Always in great shape
Found a great deal on Golfnow. The course was in great shape. Greens were a little slower than I remember but still rolled true. Pace of play was a little slow due to the group in front of us but was still better than most courses. 4.5 hours This is a fun challenging course if you've never played there. You are missing an enjoyable round at a great course.
satisfied
How could one not be satisfied playing at Bowling Green. The mature trees, well groomed fairways and challenging layout make the course enjoyable.
Great track
Serene place to enjoy a great day. A little pricy however challenging with dogs going to the left and right. Working the ball is a plus here.
You have trees on the left on some holes and to the right on other.
Tees for all types of abilities and very good food to boot.
A Good Day Spoiled
The course itself was in pretty good shape considering we have a sizable storm come through the area less than 48 hours ago. I called the night before and booked the 8:40am tee time, knowing there wasn't another bookings until 9am (they even asked me if I wanted to be paired and I said no). Warmed up and was heading to the 1st tee when they stopped me to tell me they were putting another golfer with me. It's a course's prerogative to pair singles, but this guy hadn't even pulled his clubs out of his car yet! Then, I had to change golf carts because he needed to charge his phone. In addition, they added another twosome, so instead of playing alone, I played in a foursome. After 4 hours, we had only completed 15 holes (since I was expecting to play alone, I would have finished in less than 3.5 hours). The 16th tee is near the clubhouse, so I said good-bye and headed to my car. Don't get me wrong; the other 3 guys were perfectly nice guys and the conversation was pleasant. However, since there was an open tee time at 8:50am, I'm befuddled as to why they would stop me from heading out and add 3 guys when they could have easily had the 3 of them tee off at 8:50 and let me go out at 8:40 (which would have given the guy added to my cart time to get his clubs out of his car and warm up a bit). Given the slow pace of our play and the fact that we didn't see the group behind us until we teed off on 14, I'm fairly certain the 8:50 tee time remained open. Seems to me like there is some poor decision-making in the clubhouse.
Great course
I recomend this course .
View is breathtakable , golfing is perfect .
Awesome
I love this course. It's unique, challenging and staff is excellent. Course is always well maintained.
Fall golf
Great track unfortunately it was very windy and all the leaves were on the fairways and greens , so it made playing somewhat challenging ,looking for balls that were on the fairways which we never found. Other than that it was a great fall day.
Beautiful Course
this was my first time playing Bowling Green and definitely will not be my last. For the end of October the course was in phenomenal shape. Fairways were like green carpets, the tee boxes were in great shape and the greens were a great speed. The carts have a GPS system mounted on the front and Frank the starter was extremely friendly. The scenery was also gorgeous which is always a plus. Highly recommend.
Didn't tell me greens were aerated
Course is very nice but the greens had been aerated and I should have been told that before I booked. Ruined the round.
A nice fall day of golf
Hadn't played this course in decades but decided to revisit it because my home course was closed for the day. I called and made a reservation for a single. I was told I had 8:50 and would be paired with a twosome. I got there early and tried to present my receipt to the starter and told him of my scheduled tee time. He said he's get it later. When I gave it to him again at 8:40, he said the twosome had already teed off. He did a little maneuvering and got me with a different twosome at 9:20--thirty minutes late.
The round of golf was very enjoyable, the weather was good and I found the course to be in excellent condition for this time of year. I remembered why I so enjoyed playing here in the past. I am used to playing as a resident of a nearby municipally owned course so the greens fees were much greater than I am used to but in line with courses of this caliber nearby.
I found it odd that the price to ride and walk were the same but I walked, as usual, anyway.
I'll save some money from my part-time job and return here soon.
Old Time favorite
Great traditional layout and good to excellent course conditions..Pace was great but it was Monday in October and course was quite,we played as a twosome!.Always loved this course but have not played it in years as pricing was out of my range. But thanks to Golf Now was able to get a reasonable price of $49 riding which is a bargain for this great conditioning course.
Challenging & Fair
Course was in good shape. Not busy so pace of play was good. Course was challenging with some fairways lined with trees on both sides, others with water a factor. Greens speed was moderate and ball rolled true. Setting was very nice. Definitely would play this course again.
Never had a bad round here!
I've been playing this course for a few years now, and I always enjoy going, even though it's a 50-mile drive for me. I always play first thing in the morning because I enjoy the quiet and it's much easier to play that way without too many distractions.
The course is always in great shape, and with the exception of one or two holes that are prone to wet spots, they do a great job keeping it in excellent condition.
The staff are always courteous and friendly, and I've never ever had any problems with anyone.. It's for this reason that I'll continue to play there!
Very nice course; excellent pace of play
I'll definitely return. Staff was very accommodating. Conditions were excellent.
