Bowling Green Golf Club
About
Bowling Green Golf Club is in the heart of northern New Jersey, surrounded by miles of idyllic countryside. An abundance of mature oaks and towering red pines characterizes the scenic course. This quick, shady layout is a great round for walkers. The golf course has a classic links design that is easily played in less than four hours. Like most traditional links courses, the gently undulating terrain has the perfect pitch and roll. It also provides each hole with unique challenges that require accuracy and strategy. Trees heavily line the fairways, presenting some of the course's most formidable challenges. Bowling Green Golf Club's front nine is slightly more forgiving than the back nine, which incorporates the natural ponds and wetlands on a few holes. There are also some tricky doglegs to contend with.

Golf as it was meant to be
That phrase is written on the scorecard, and it caught my eye, because it was true. I've played at some dumpy courses, and I've played at private clubs at charity events, and Bowling Green fell perfectly in the middle...not dumpy, and not pretentious. The staff was very friendly and the course was in great shape.
Great course!!
It was my first time playing here..good impression from the starter Ed... course is great condition greens are pretty fast which we were very happy..
Best of all was pace of play.. lots of golfer but still 4hours~~ I fully recommend this course..
Carl Cathcart
Course in great shape for all the rain we have had. Pace of play was excellent, finished in just under 4 hours. Suggest you use one more club on par threes.
No rain check because the green fee was purchased via Golfnow
Played only 5 holes due to heavy rain and the greens were covered with water. They said no rain check because I purchased through Golfnow. Frustrated. The staff at nearby Berkshire and Flanders are much more friendly and professional.
Great course, overbearing staff
I hadn't played Bowling Green in sometime but wanted to go back because it is a true hidden gem. The tree lined fairways, great play ability for all levels, and value are just a few reasons to play. With that said, as great as the course is, the staff thinks this place is Baltusrol or Ridgewood. While getting ready to tee off, we were given the cart rules for the day. You literally needed a pen a paper as it seemed every hole had a rule (it had not rained in two weeks so it was bone dry). We didn't get 100 yards down the fairway and I looked back a saw a cart approaching our group. I was scolded saying didn't you hear what I told you? I said I'm sorry a moved on. Then on number 6, a maintenance worked came after us for riding too far in the rough. I finally said..."sir, where the .... do you want us to ride??" It was such a shame because you felt on pins and needles all day that a staff member was following you (which they did a few times after #6). I would 100% recommend Bowling Green, but make sure you bring a pad and pencil and if your walking, repair every divot and hallmark. They're watching.
A Hidden Gem . . . and a Keeper.
My wife (whose drives average 180-200 yards) and I love this course. It is tree lined, with a ton of water and lakes and marshes. It is beautiful, quiet, exceptionally well maintained and reasonably challenging.
We will go back again and again to this course. It is a hidden gem and a keeper.
Always a favorite layout
As has happened in the past when we book a round through GolfNow the Pro Shop staff tries to bump the price or deny the DEAL. This causes friction. If they don't want to list a DEAL on GolfNow they shouldn't. We booked a foursome and have played the course several times in the past ten years. The other issue with the staff is with regard to pace of play. They pride themselves on a 4:15 round. If you have finished the front nine in under 2 hours and are keeping pace with the group in front of you, there is no reason for a ranger to follow your group around. It creates a very uncomfortable feeling. We finished in just over 4 hours. The bar staff was very nice.
Bowling Green
Course was excellent. The only minor issue was the greens, they were a little bumpy. This affected short putts, sometimes dramatically.
Nice course, good deal on GolfNow.
Me and my golf buddies have come here 2-3 times over the last few years. Course is in good shape considering how little rain North Jersey and the Hidson Valley area has gotten this spring. That being said, the fairways were a bit shaggy, which is is totally understandable. If you don't water it and keep it a bit longer, it'll brown out and be a dust bowl.....and then the super loses his job. A bit pricey, but a decent deal can be had on GolfNow.....I paid $24! We will be back.
must play
one of a kind in this area, classy old course. tree lined
the pines, ponds, i always enjoy this course.
very well kept, someone cares and their pride shows.
Tough course. Very tight.
Course is in good shape. But who ever put the pin placement thought the PGA was playing there. There was a high school tournament pin placement was in very difficult places. The course is hard as it is.
Always in great shape
Found a great deal on Golfnow. The course was in great shape. Greens were a little slower than I remember but still rolled true. Pace of play was a little slow due to the group in front of us but was still better than most courses. 4.5 hours This is a fun challenging course if you've never played there. You are missing an enjoyable round at a great course.
satisfied
How could one not be satisfied playing at Bowling Green. The mature trees, well groomed fairways and challenging layout make the course enjoyable.
Great track
Serene place to enjoy a great day. A little pricy however challenging with dogs going to the left and right. Working the ball is a plus here.
You have trees on the left on some holes and to the right on other.
Tees for all types of abilities and very good food to boot.
A Good Day Spoiled
The course itself was in pretty good shape considering we have a sizable storm come through the area less than 48 hours ago. I called the night before and booked the 8:40am tee time, knowing there wasn't another bookings until 9am (they even asked me if I wanted to be paired and I said no). Warmed up and was heading to the 1st tee when they stopped me to tell me they were putting another golfer with me. It's a course's prerogative to pair singles, but this guy hadn't even pulled his clubs out of his car yet! Then, I had to change golf carts because he needed to charge his phone. In addition, they added another twosome, so instead of playing alone, I played in a foursome. After 4 hours, we had only completed 15 holes (since I was expecting to play alone, I would have finished in less than 3.5 hours). The 16th tee is near the clubhouse, so I said good-bye and headed to my car. Don't get me wrong; the other 3 guys were perfectly nice guys and the conversation was pleasant. However, since there was an open tee time at 8:50am, I'm befuddled as to why they would stop me from heading out and add 3 guys when they could have easily had the 3 of them tee off at 8:50 and let me go out at 8:40 (which would have given the guy added to my cart time to get his clubs out of his car and warm up a bit). Given the slow pace of our play and the fact that we didn't see the group behind us until we teed off on 14, I'm fairly certain the 8:50 tee time remained open. Seems to me like there is some poor decision-making in the clubhouse.
Great course
I recomend this course .
View is breathtakable , golfing is perfect .
Awesome
I love this course. It's unique, challenging and staff is excellent. Course is always well maintained.
Fall golf
Great track unfortunately it was very windy and all the leaves were on the fairways and greens , so it made playing somewhat challenging ,looking for balls that were on the fairways which we never found. Other than that it was a great fall day.
Beautiful Course
this was my first time playing Bowling Green and definitely will not be my last. For the end of October the course was in phenomenal shape. Fairways were like green carpets, the tee boxes were in great shape and the greens were a great speed. The carts have a GPS system mounted on the front and Frank the starter was extremely friendly. The scenery was also gorgeous which is always a plus. Highly recommend.
