Bowling Green Golf Club
About
Bowling Green Golf Club is in the heart of northern New Jersey, surrounded by miles of idyllic countryside. An abundance of mature oaks and towering red pines characterizes the scenic course. This quick, shady layout is a great round for walkers. The golf course has a classic links design that is easily played in less than four hours. Like most traditional links courses, the gently undulating terrain has the perfect pitch and roll. It also provides each hole with unique challenges that require accuracy and strategy. Trees heavily line the fairways, presenting some of the course's most formidable challenges. Bowling Green Golf Club's front nine is slightly more forgiving than the back nine, which incorporates the natural ponds and wetlands on a few holes. There are also some tricky doglegs to contend with.

6th Tee Photo submitted by agurango on 05/24/2013
Mostly excellent conditions
One of the better north jersey courses. Narrow fairways and a challenging course. Tee boxes and fairways in excellent condition. Greens must have been recently aerated so they were a little bumpy in spots. The staff was very friendly and the price was great ($34 for an 8:10am tee time). Overall a great experience and would definitely play again.
PERFECT !!
My tee time was 7:10 and I was paired with one other guy. We literally FLEW around the course - finished in 2:55 !! CAN'T BEAT THAT and it's also the reason we both shot so well too. Course was in GREAT shape - no complaints at all !
Excellent Course
Have played this course several times and it is always in excellent shape.. Although a challenging layout ,it is fair and a good test of your game with a great assortment of holes, especially the par 3's.. Pace of play during the week was under 4 hours and when I played on the weekend it was 4 hrs and 15 min.
Nice layout, but greens were slooow
Bowling Green is a fun and challenging layout for most golfers. During yesterday's round the course was very wet (they must've over watered, since we've had minimal rain) and my ball plugged in the fairway and around the greens several times. Greens were also very slooow! With a few tweaks, it should be much better. This course should play hard and fast.
Disappointed this time, still a good course.
I've played Bowling Green well over 50 times and have always been impressed with the conditions. That's one reason why I come back so often. However, this time I was disappointed in that some of the tee boxes were ripped up with divots, but more importantly, it seems like the greens keeper was on vacation the last week or so and no one picked up the slack. The greens on the front nine were so slow you could have used a hybrid for an uphill putt. The back nine got a little better, but it was not up to the standard I am used to at this club. It will not deter me from playing here again as I consider it a blip on the screen, but I do hope it improves. There should never be a bad day of golfing because of the greens.
Something else that doesn't just pertain to Bowling Green, but to all courses. I think people who don't fix their ball marks should be removed from the course immediately. What a disgrace!
CAN'T BEAT IT !!
Got an EARLY BIRD tee time at 7:20 am for 30 bucks and change so it was a WINNER even before I teed off ! Things only GOT BETTER from there, lol !! I teamed up with another single and we FLEW around the course just feeding off of one another's good play . We finished the whole round in 2 hours and 55 minutes - EASILY the fastest round I'd ever been involved in !! Nobody IN FRONT TO SLOW US DOWN and nobody behind us to PUSH US EITHER - there's just NO BETTER WAY that I know of to play golf ! I'll be going back real soon FOR SURE !!
Great Course, somewhat pricey
I play BG a couple times a year. This is a great course testing every club in your bag with plenty of variety. If you can get out for under $60 it’s a no brainer but some of the primetime greens fees are crazy. You will not be disappointed with the course conditions or layout.
good time
Really enjoyable course. Good staff. Very reasonable.
Great Time
This is a fun course, staff are extremely informative and pleasant. I have gone twice so far and plan to go many more times.
the cost
for the price I payed though golf now was a very good deal
bowling green
great bang for the buck. excellent condition. plush fairways. good tee boxes. very puttable greens. pace of play was great on early morning play. hitting straight shots is a big plus for scoring well on this track
Great Track
Well worth your time and money. This course was in great shape. The course was designed and not built. You need to understand the hole to hit the correct club. You should not be hitting driver on the front 9 more then 3 times. Greens were in great shape and had nice undulations. Tee boxes were a bit beat up on some par 3's as they had not been adjusted from the prior day but still very playable. Nice putting green and driving range. You can hardly hear any noise outside of the course, no traffic as the course is a bit off the beaten path. Well worth the drive. I plan on returning many more times and I drive over an hour to get there.
Highly suggested.
Enjoyable outing
Great pace of play. Conditions were good. It would be nice if they put grass in on the driving range instead of hitting off mats.
Golf as it was meant to be
That phrase is written on the scorecard, and it caught my eye, because it was true. I've played at some dumpy courses, and I've played at private clubs at charity events, and Bowling Green fell perfectly in the middle...not dumpy, and not pretentious. The staff was very friendly and the course was in great shape.
Great course!!
It was my first time playing here..good impression from the starter Ed... course is great condition greens are pretty fast which we were very happy..
Best of all was pace of play.. lots of golfer but still 4hours~~ I fully recommend this course..
Carl Cathcart
Course in great shape for all the rain we have had. Pace of play was excellent, finished in just under 4 hours. Suggest you use one more club on par threes.
No rain check because the green fee was purchased via Golfnow
Played only 5 holes due to heavy rain and the greens were covered with water. They said no rain check because I purchased through Golfnow. Frustrated. The staff at nearby Berkshire and Flanders are much more friendly and professional.
Great course, overbearing staff
I hadn't played Bowling Green in sometime but wanted to go back because it is a true hidden gem. The tree lined fairways, great play ability for all levels, and value are just a few reasons to play. With that said, as great as the course is, the staff thinks this place is Baltusrol or Ridgewood. While getting ready to tee off, we were given the cart rules for the day. You literally needed a pen a paper as it seemed every hole had a rule (it had not rained in two weeks so it was bone dry). We didn't get 100 yards down the fairway and I looked back a saw a cart approaching our group. I was scolded saying didn't you hear what I told you? I said I'm sorry a moved on. Then on number 6, a maintenance worked came after us for riding too far in the rough. I finally said..."sir, where the .... do you want us to ride??" It was such a shame because you felt on pins and needles all day that a staff member was following you (which they did a few times after #6). I would 100% recommend Bowling Green, but make sure you bring a pad and pencil and if your walking, repair every divot and hallmark. They're watching.
A Hidden Gem . . . and a Keeper.
My wife (whose drives average 180-200 yards) and I love this course. It is tree lined, with a ton of water and lakes and marshes. It is beautiful, quiet, exceptionally well maintained and reasonably challenging.
We will go back again and again to this course. It is a hidden gem and a keeper.
