Bowling Green Golf Club
About
Bowling Green Golf Club is in the heart of northern New Jersey, surrounded by miles of idyllic countryside. An abundance of mature oaks and towering red pines characterizes the scenic course. This quick, shady layout is a great round for walkers. The golf course has a classic links design that is easily played in less than four hours. Like most traditional links courses, the gently undulating terrain has the perfect pitch and roll. It also provides each hole with unique challenges that require accuracy and strategy. Trees heavily line the fairways, presenting some of the course's most formidable challenges. Bowling Green Golf Club's front nine is slightly more forgiving than the back nine, which incorporates the natural ponds and wetlands on a few holes. There are also some tricky doglegs to contend with.

6th Tee Photo submitted by agurango on 05/24/2013
Very slow pace of play
My friends and I tee’ed of thinking a mid Fall round of golf at a relatively expensive course would result in a quick round. Little did we know that it would be over 5 hours long. Not only we’re we waiting on every hole, but we saw not only 1 hole but 2 different holes where there was a back up of 4 groups…
The rangers clearly did nothing about the backed up round and the culprit groups didn’t seem to care. It’s too bad given the course itself is in good shape and the layout is enjoyable.
Great course
Very well maintained and fairly challenging course to the average golfer. I’m probably a below average golfer lol. It’s in a gorgeous setting and is beautiful in different ways throughout the seasons of the year.. With that said, the price seems to have gone up considerably. Either way- love this place and I go about 20 times a year:
Great Time
The course was challenging and fun. Such great condition even with the falling leaves and recent wet weather. The beer selection at the turn was incredible. So many local brewery options.
Good not great
Course was in ok condition but very vanilla layout. Short par 4’s, weird / short par 5’s, greens were crazy fast but in fairness they were in perfect shape. The ranger told us to pick up the pace after waiting on a par 3 for the group ahead of us to go lol. Nothing bad about it but for the price I expected a little more
Very Nice Course
Bowling Green was a great course to play. Very well maintained. Greens are very fast and have a lot of slopes. Tight fairways with lots of turns so don’t be fooled by the distance. Tree lined fairways add to the aesthetics.
Retains water
This is a narrow course and when it rains, it retains water everywhere (fairways, tee box and greens)! This is my 2nd experience at this course and both times, it was a slopfest.
Nice course!
Course has a great pace of play. It is tight so be sure to hit it straight!
Great Course and biergarten!
Course is great. Plays fast both in pace and in terms of green speed and was in very good condition considering the recent heat/drought. Layout is somewhat challenging, but fun. Service was great all around and the biergarten was a great bonus (and worth the trip alone for the beer available on tap). A bit pricey compared to others in the area, but worth it. Will definitely play again!
Amazing staff and conditions!
Greens although hard rolled true! My group was running late and we had a last minute dropout. Instead of telling us to kick rocks, which they had all the rights to, the staff gave me rain check for gift card for the next time we book an outing and the starter bumped us a few slots back.
The range we fully stocked with practice balls, and the carts were waiting for us.
Can not recommend this course more, I can’t wait for when I go back.
Great greens, bad tee boxes
Course is great to play every so often out of your normal rotation. The greens are always in good shape but the tee boxes are bad. Definitely not worth the normal price of $100+, it is nothing spectacular. I will only play there for $85 or less. It is a fun course but not for the price
Tons of fun!
Greens were a little beat up (repair your ball marks, people) but overall it was a great day. Staff was super friendly, pace of play was excellent. We’ll be back!
