About
River Vale Country Club (formerly known as Bergen Hills Country Club.) sprawls across the gently rolling hills of northeast New Jersey. It has been ranked on Golf Digest's list of "Best Places to Play," but it still manages to remain one of Bergen County's most well kept secrets. You'll hardly ever run into crowds on this golf course. The layout has a classic design that incorporates a variety of elevation changes. Tricky uphill and downhill lies will be your biggest challenge on this layout. Strategically placed bunkers lurk beside the greensides and there are several holes where water hazards come into play, including the par-5 fifth, which has a lake on either side of the green. River Vale a tight golf course that demands accuracy and while it's not overly formidable, your skills will definitely be put to the test.

PACE OF PLAY
3 HOURS TO PLAY NINE HOLES. Stuck behind the slowest group ever and the ranger has the nerve to say WE NEED TO SPEED IT UP. We sat and waited on every tee box and every shot the entire round. Like I said, 3 HOURS to play 9 holes. First and last time here.
River Vale on nice early fall week day
I've played here a few times over the years. The course is somewhat difficult for me as I am 65. I played the whites and did not have problem with distances. Would be a difficult course for me to walk. The course conditions are always very good and the greens are faster than the municipals that I play. Pace of play was good even though we were a twosome sandwiched between 2 foursomes. Only had to wait a couple of times for a few minutes. $100.00 is steep for a weekday and there was no senior discount. Staff is always friendly.

Great course for a public course. Great conditions would be better if people fixed their ball marks
Another Gem Day
Another beautiful day and out on course thats crowded as usual but pace is a little slow but okay. Course is in great condition and greens are moderately
difficult but manageable. Overall great day paired with some regulars who helped navigate.
Awesome Layout and in perfect condition
Late morning foursome on a Sunday. Pace was great and course conditions were outstanding. Greens were fast and challenging which led to quite a few 3 putts!
A challenging and beautiful course
A course I would love to play again.
It is,not easy- It is a challenging course., but one that makes me want to take on the challenge once more...
Tight challenging short course
The course is not overly long but you must keep the ball in the fairway. Lots of blind tee shots and well protected tough greens. Good time
We got out first after a rain delay and finished in 3.5 hours

Hole in one day on #17
Played pretty good. But I had a hole in one on the par 3 17th hole. I used a 7 iron teed really high. A strong wind was in my face that is why I climbed up to a seven iron. I was originally going to hit an 8 iron and changed my mind when I felt the wind good decision. Had a great day

Perfect day of golf because I got a hole in one on the par 3 17 th hole today. What could be better
Great course layout
Great track, quality course for sure. Challenging greens. Staff is wonderful. Pace of play a little slow, but not too bad. It was a four and a half hour round. Clubhouse could use an upgrade. On the pricey side, but worth it for the quality of the course. Highly recommend playing here at least a couple times a year.
