About
River Vale Country Club (formerly known as Bergen Hills Country Club.) sprawls across the gently rolling hills of northeast New Jersey. It has been ranked on Golf Digest's list of "Best Places to Play," but it still manages to remain one of Bergen County's most well kept secrets. You'll hardly ever run into crowds on this golf course. The layout has a classic design that incorporates a variety of elevation changes. Tricky uphill and downhill lies will be your biggest challenge on this layout. Strategically placed bunkers lurk beside the greensides and there are several holes where water hazards come into play, including the par-5 fifth, which has a lake on either side of the green. River Vale a tight golf course that demands accuracy and while it's not overly formidable, your skills will definitely be put to the test.

This course is well maintained and challenging
Enjoyed the round. Staff is pleasant and efficient, course is well maintained, challenging greens, tboxes are slightly beatup as expected this time of the year.
Great Course - Uneducated Players
I've played River Vale many times over the years, this was my first time returning in 7+ years though. I was delighted to see that the course remains in excellent condition. I was saddened to see how badly the general public treats this course. Every green (yes, every green) had unrepaired pitch marks and the sand traps were littered with footsteps and tire tracks, showing little attempts by players to rake them for the next group. I'd play here again, but the grounds crew ought to send out folks to monitor players more rigorously and ban repeat offenders. If you're reading this, PLEASE CONSIDER THE PLAYERS BEHIND YOU AND LEAVE THE COURSE IN BETTER SHAPE THAN YOU FOUND IT. Thank You.
Great Experience at River Vale
Teed off with my father at 6:30am, staff at the pro shop where very friendly and the rental clubs a decent Callaway 10 club set. Greens are challenging and the course was in great condition. Played behind a foursome and still finished half hour ahead of ideal play time. Service at the bar and the snack shack was great.
Second Option to play
When there is no space to book up to your favorite course, this course will be another option to play. But you should not expect bag & cart attendant's service or convenience to bring your bag to your car with cart.

Really nice course. Great condition, reasonably priced. Highly recommend. Fast greens! Be ready.
Hometown favorite
River vale golf course has always made the grade. Greens were perfect(( some players need to improve on their gardening skills). Course setup was challenging, throttling back will improve pace of play and playability. Excellent product for the metro area

Course conditions are the BEST around. Staff is always amazing.
Great course, slow play
Really enjoyed the course, which is in excellent shape. However teed off at noon and didn’t finish until 5 pm. Waited every shot for18 holes. Ranger was of little use
great day with friends
The greens were tough today. missed a lot of puts which really hurt my score. but its all good.
Management is bad
The staffs don't even offer to put your bag in the golf cart, they don't tell you what the pin placement is for the Day and there are no rangers around to keep the pace of place flowing. Not worth of the money
