About
River Vale Country Club (formerly known as Bergen Hills Country Club.) sprawls across the gently rolling hills of northeast New Jersey. It has been ranked on Golf Digest's list of "Best Places to Play," but it still manages to remain one of Bergen County's most well kept secrets. You'll hardly ever run into crowds on this golf course. The layout has a classic design that incorporates a variety of elevation changes. Tricky uphill and downhill lies will be your biggest challenge on this layout. Strategically placed bunkers lurk beside the greensides and there are several holes where water hazards come into play, including the par-5 fifth, which has a lake on either side of the green. River Vale a tight golf course that demands accuracy and while it's not overly formidable, your skills will definitely be put to the test.

Solid beautiful course
Just the pace was really slow .. Didn’t see the Marshall at all.. Other than that this golf course was spectacular
Only played 6 holes
The six holes I played I was 3 over but then the lightning came and I took a raincheck
Great day!
Was a bit skeptical to play because it was my first time at that course and i was going alone and did not have my own clubs.
I've arrived there an hour before the round, it was plenty of time to rent some clubs, warm up and eat an egg sandwich.
I was paired with 2 very friendly guys and it was right there that i realized it was going to be a nice day, everybody at the course now each other, everybody is nice, there is no hitting over each other, screeming or other things that i've seen in other courses.
At the end of the day, shot one of my best rounds ever! 8 pars on the 18 holes.
I was playing with 2 locals, this might have helped but i found the course fairly simple but pretty fun!
Recommend it!
Only played 6 holes
Took a rain check after 6 holes due to rain and lightning.
Great shape
The course continues to be in great shape and tons of fun to play. The pace of play was a bit slow, especially for a mid-week day. Too many people playing tees too far back. We had to wait on the tee-box for 3-5 minutes on every hole. Rangers need to do a better job moving groups along.
Immaculate Course, Fast Greens, Top-Tier Course with Country Club Feel
Tee’d off at 8 AM on a beautiful morning with a friend and had an incredible round at River Vale Country Club. The course is in immaculate shape—maintenance crews were actively working throughout the morning, repairing divots, raking bunkers, and keeping everything pristine. The greens were lightning-fast and true, making putting a real test of control. The layout is fun and challenging, with a great mix of tight fairways, elevation changes, and well-placed hazards.
Carts are modern and equipped with GPS screens, and the pace of play was perfect—no pressure from behind, no delays ahead. It felt like the course was all ours. Overall, one of the best-kept and most enjoyable public tracks I’ve played in the NY/NJ area. Highly recommend!
RVCC always a good round
RVCC never disappoints. Even after morning thunderstorms we were able to tee off with only a 15 min delay! Course was in great shape, drainage was superb.
With a Twosome ahead and Threesome behind us, pace was great and we finished 25 min ahead..
