River Vale Country Club
About
River Vale Country Club (formerly known as Bergen Hills Country Club.) sprawls across the gently rolling hills of northeast New Jersey. It has been ranked on Golf Digest's list of "Best Places to Play," but it still manages to remain one of Bergen County's most well kept secrets. You'll hardly ever run into crowds on this golf course. The layout has a classic design that incorporates a variety of elevation changes. Tricky uphill and downhill lies will be your biggest challenge on this layout. Strategically placed bunkers lurk beside the greensides and there are several holes where water hazards come into play, including the par-5 fifth, which has a lake on either side of the green. River Vale a tight golf course that demands accuracy and while it's not overly formidable, your skills will definitely be put to the test.

Country Club Public Course
First time playing. The overall course layout and conditions were great. The bunkers were some of the softest I've played this year. Range was updated equipped with Toptracer. Snack shop was legit and cart girl came by often. Restrooms are also renovated with other renovations going on. Definitely worth the fee and play especially since Bergen County muni courses are the pits. Can't wait to get back out there.
Impeccable Conditions
The course was sin the best shape I've ever seen it. Lush rough and fairways and the greens rolling fast and smooth. Kudos to the groundskeeper and team as well as to the overall staff. The course presents as fair yet challenging. Mistakes get penalized yet if you are playing well a great score is waiting.
very nice course
I have not played here in a few years they have made some excellent improvements
Enjoyable Round of Golf - Will play it again.
The pace of play, conditions of the course rival most elite golf courses in the northeast. We played the course from the tips and found it to be fair. An overall enjoyable round of golf
Post Covid Review
Compared to many public courses in the NYC metropolitan area, these greens were superior and the roll was very quick. Made the course very challenging. If you’re looking for courses in goodness’s conditions right now (end of Aug), then this weekday rate to ride is well worth the cost and drive time to the course.
Rain did not stop us
Course drained very well after hard rain. Only a few soggy spots. Challenging but fair course layout in excellent condition. Safety awareness is high. Well run. Well done!
Great course
even in bad weather itvis a pleasure to play this course!
Thanks for the heads up
How in 2020 do you not alert people that your course has suddenly shut down due to drainage issues? Golfnow sends me emails every single day, but can not alert me that the course abruptly shut down? Arrived at the course a little before 4:00 pm to a completely empty parking lot. No rain the day of, no notice at all that the course was shut down. My business colleagues were quite unhappy that they drove from over an hour away to find out that River Vale suddenly shut down. Disgraceful. They also have let the course go over this past year. Definitely not a $100+ weekend course anymore. Definitely not getting my business back anytime soon.

I can't believe it either, upon talking to other people. I come to understand that the managment is horrible and the manager himself is a unpleasant person to deal with. *** they closed the course last week for no reason..^^ one hole had water.. ok make it cart path.. but they.. he just wants to go home early. Course is great but it's sad to see that type of managment.
Ps: we had tee time the same day.
