River Vale Country Club
About
River Vale Country Club (formerly known as Bergen Hills Country Club.) sprawls across the gently rolling hills of northeast New Jersey. It has been ranked on Golf Digest's list of "Best Places to Play," but it still manages to remain one of Bergen County's most well kept secrets. You'll hardly ever run into crowds on this golf course. The layout has a classic design that incorporates a variety of elevation changes. Tricky uphill and downhill lies will be your biggest challenge on this layout. Strategically placed bunkers lurk beside the greensides and there are several holes where water hazards come into play, including the par-5 fifth, which has a lake on either side of the green. River Vale a tight golf course that demands accuracy and while it's not overly formidable, your skills will definitely be put to the test.

Great round at Rivervale
Can't say enough about this course even in the waning days of fall still a great layout great conditions phenomenal course one of my favorites in all of the New York area!
This place is great
Nice course. Nice people . Nice faculty
Challenging ... but fair. Need to know the spots to hit and where not to miss. Some golf shots needed. Lots a fun
Nice place
Weather was cold and the place was empty. I don't remember the last time I didn't have to wait on a tee box. Pleasurable round. Decent layout. Very friendly. I look forward to playing there in warmer weather
the starters dont do anything to slow players.
past of play is HORRIBLE. Took over 5 hours to play a round.
Ill never play here again.
I'm a local resident I've played this course many times. The same spots that are wet have been wet for the last 25 years. The greens are the worst greens I've probably ever played on. They were slow, they were not manicured, and there were bumps and marks all over the greens.
A challenge but not unatainable
Challenging course but not impossible. Fairways and greens groomed well. Bunkers were in top shape. Tee boxes need work though. There was not a level box on the course. Even when you teed it it would be above or below your feet. All in all good experience. I feelthe oeiginal price is a little high for the public but that is why its semi private.
Not too easy, but not too hard
The course is welcoming for all different players. We played on the white tee, the course was still very long, but not too long, thus I could challenge the course a little. The green was very well maintained. It was very much different comparing to public county courses.
I highly recommend anyone who wants to feel a course like where professional players play, it can be a course that we can try first.
River vale was a pleasant surprise
Hit off early mid week. Course is very lush despite the drought conditions. Greens are a little slow but the layout was quite interesting. I have tended to play nearby Blue Hill but now prefer Rivervale. More open but still can find trouble. Water comes into play quite a bit and some tough holes such as 9, 10, 14, 15... Had lunch afterwards in the club...
One of the better courses available to people on the UWS
This, along with New York Country Club, is a course I play quite a lot. They're both decent layouts, well tended (in the main) and well run. Staff are friendly and helpful and they're both very reachable from Midtown and the UWS.
Nice round of golf
Course was in good condition considering it has been recently aerated. Greens a bit slow but the aeration had more to do with that. Fairways good and round went quickly. Very hot so it was good that we didn't have to wait.
Thank you for your review. We hope to see you back at River Vale CC soon!
