About
River Vale Country Club (formerly known as Bergen Hills Country Club.) sprawls across the gently rolling hills of northeast New Jersey. It has been ranked on Golf Digest's list of "Best Places to Play," but it still manages to remain one of Bergen County's most well kept secrets. You'll hardly ever run into crowds on this golf course. The layout has a classic design that incorporates a variety of elevation changes. Tricky uphill and downhill lies will be your biggest challenge on this layout. Strategically placed bunkers lurk beside the greensides and there are several holes where water hazards come into play, including the par-5 fifth, which has a lake on either side of the green. River Vale a tight golf course that demands accuracy and while it's not overly formidable, your skills will definitely be put to the test.

Much improved
I play here couple times a year. The course has gone through some solid improvement. The greens are on par with pricey country clubs in the area. The fairways and tee boxes are good. The layout is fun and challenging. A good mix of holes that make you think about your shots. The staff is always friendly and helpful. I wish the price was a little better but I get it....it's a pricey piece of real estate. the food in the bar is good.
Very fast green that make you more difficult to score but fun to play
My 1st time at River Vale CC
This was my first visit to River Vale Country Club and I will be back. The course was in excellent condition and the greens rolled very well.
I liked the layout was it forced me to take different clubs off of the tee and also position it well.
The only slight complaints would be the pace of play and lack of repaired ball marks by the groups in front of us.
Great conditions
RVCC is in the best shape I’ve seen it in the last 10 years. Great job!
Hot and muggy
Well drained with all the rain but the rough was impenetrable. Added 5 shots to the score.
Well maintained a wonderful layout much harder than the scorecard would indicate
Hit it straight or go home
Slooow
Played 4.5 hours and only finished 15 holes. The group in front of us held up the entire course. The ranger tried to get them to pick up the pace, but it simply didn’t register.
Always love playing here. Course conditions are good although yesterday there was a lot of bunkers not raked and a large majority of the greens had old divots that people are fixing. Overall the course plays great, just challenging enough.
Awesome course
This course is not for beginners.
It is very hilly and the greens are not flat.
We can't wait to go back.
Great Course for Your Buck
Course is in great condition, well kept and roughs aren’t too high. Greens are very fast but other than that, no issues.
Best conditioning in the last 10 years
I have been playing this course for roughly 10 years and truly it is the best shape I’ve ever seen right now in the 2018 season The greens are rolling very few were and are in great shape. All the courses in the New York metro area and best condition. This one, is super close and convenient to Manhattan and is reasonably priced. A number of holes are very challenging.
Others are quite easy. It’s a fun mix and a great course to add to your rotation

Comlete pracrice areas, nice layout, fast undulating greens, no gimicky holes.
