About
River Vale Country Club (formerly known as Bergen Hills Country Club.) sprawls across the gently rolling hills of northeast New Jersey. It has been ranked on Golf Digest's list of "Best Places to Play," but it still manages to remain one of Bergen County's most well kept secrets. You'll hardly ever run into crowds on this golf course. The layout has a classic design that incorporates a variety of elevation changes. Tricky uphill and downhill lies will be your biggest challenge on this layout. Strategically placed bunkers lurk beside the greensides and there are several holes where water hazards come into play, including the par-5 fifth, which has a lake on either side of the green. River Vale a tight golf course that demands accuracy and while it's not overly formidable, your skills will definitely be put to the test.

Very tough greens
I hit the ball well but the greens cost me a lot of strokes. Very tough greens

This place is great but the pace of play is brutal

Great course . Driving range is a joke . Would rather not hit balls than hit into over head netting
Too slow
Many players delaying speed of rounding I realized each player hitting more than 2 times every each shooting.
Very disappointing and frustrating. Not only tee off thru all the way up to putting. They repeat many shootings

County golf course greens are better then here
Phenomenal
River Vale has returned to its conditions of the good old days. It is pristine, and with all of the on course construction and tree removal it is now as good as some private courses. Look forward to returning!!

Where's the Marshall?
The course is beautifully maintained, and the staff was welcoming, but the pace of play was painfully slow, turning a 4-hour round into over 5 hours. Zero marshal intervention.
