River Vale Country Club

About
River Vale Country Club (formerly known as Bergen Hills Country Club.) sprawls across the gently rolling hills of northeast New Jersey. It has been ranked on Golf Digest's list of "Best Places to Play," but it still manages to remain one of Bergen County's most well kept secrets. You'll hardly ever run into crowds on this golf course. The layout has a classic design that incorporates a variety of elevation changes. Tricky uphill and downhill lies will be your biggest challenge on this layout. Strategically placed bunkers lurk beside the greensides and there are several holes where water hazards come into play, including the par-5 fifth, which has a lake on either side of the green. River Vale a tight golf course that demands accuracy and while it's not overly formidable, your skills will definitely be put to the test.

Wonderful course; slow play
This is truly an interesting golf layout and in excellent condition. Greens and slanted and lightning fast. Lots of hills often leading to blind shots but very playable.
Pace of play was very slow; waited virtually every shot all day for a 4 1/2 hour round. Not much info from rangers about causes of delays
Greens
Great course not far from Manhattan but the greens are treacherous to navigate as a non-member. Not a flat putt to be had on entire course. They also boast the longest Par 4 in the area into a difficult green, makes for a real challenge!

Course was in great shape. Played in 4hours and 20 minutes. Hit the fairways and you are usually rewarded with a great opportunity to score well. Greens were fantastic. However didn’t care for the pin placement that day.
Course is in great shape
The course is in terrific condition, especially for this point in the season. For those who have not played it before, the course is very challenging, not because of length, but because of the slope of the greens and the rough, which will eat you up. Stay out of the rough and try your best to stay below the hole. If the pin position is up front, it's better to be short and chip up than be on and above the hole. Aim for par and, if you make the occasional birdie, so much the better. Course management is the key to scoring well.
Top shelf here
From the moment u arrive to the time u leave , they do it right here , golf course incredible shape , some groups will never get how to play golf when a course is crowded, always be aware learn a system so u understand and become better player
As good as ever
First time playing River Vale in a couple of years (due to injuries), and the course was just as challenging and as much fun as I remembered it.
There are lots of divots on the fairways, and a good addition to the carts would be sand or a grass seed mix so golfers can repair them. Also, it wouldn't hurt to have the staff, including rangers, remind golfers to fix their ball marks on greens. There were way too many of them on many greens, particularly the Par 3s.
Great time
All good here , the best service , show up , kind always , course in good shape , always fix your divots and play faster
