Beautiful layout
One of the better public courses around Westchester county, NY. A bit over priced at $250, worth $150 mornings and $100 afternoon.
Top notch Daily fee course
A shot makers course. Great vistas. Can’t say enough about the overall golf experience.
Good Course but Overpriced
Have been waiting to give this course a try and finally did when I saw a Hot Deal that made it somewhat reasonably priced. The staff was friendly and welcoming. Range balls are complimentary but the balls are limited flight and it was mats only. Range itself is only about 200 yards long. Yardage books are very detailed and complimentary as is the GPS in the cart.
The course itself was a very fun and challenging layout. Don't let your ego get the better of you - play from the correct tees so a good drive carries the trouble. Greens were smooth but slow for an upscale course. Also had a few spots that were patchy but the hole locations were usually away from these spots. There were a few foursomes in front of us and we played at a comfortable pace of just over four and a half hours.
Overall I had a great experience but I don't think the course is worth the sticker price - it should be priced $100-150 which is where the Hot Deals usually have it.
One of the nicest courses in Southern New York State
Thoroughly enjoyed the course and its challenges. Fortunately I played well and didn't have to deal with most of Pete Dye's difficult hazards. The staff was very friendly and helpful. If you want a treat, try this course.
Challenging layout and friendly staff
Fun course to play. I have played here 5 times, staff friendliness has impressed me every single time. Greens were a bit spotty. Overpriced course 150/100 is worth it not the 250/150 they charge now.
Great Dye Design
Lots of Carries and blind shots off the tee. Need to trust the yardage guide and have faith in your shots. Off course amenities are sub-par for a $200 round but that should rectified in a few more years. Plenty of picturesque holes, be sure to play the proper tees otherwise the course will eat you alive.
Didn't meet expectations
Having heard and read great things about the course, I was excited about getting a change to play, but I left somewhat disappointed.
For the price, I was expecting top end, all the way around. The driving range disappointed, the staff friendliness wasn't the greatest and the course conditions while OK, weren't what I was expecting.
The layout is tough. There is little to no room for error on most tee and approach shots. Your tee shots are visually intimidating and present a lot of blind shots. If you are a sprayer of the ball, you will have a long and aggravating day. The greens weren't overly fast or difficult to read, but you pay a steep price if you're offline and trying to get up & down.
Overall, it was OK. I would enjoy playing the course again, but for the price, it's not worth it. I was expecting a top end experience and left disappointed. We did have lunch after the round however, and the food and service were great.
Very Difficult
One of the toughest courses I have played. As a 12 index and a few higher handicaps in the group we decided to play off Granite, which was certainly the right choice. This course is very tight with little room for error. There are a number of blind shots and forced carries (200+ yards). If you are a avid golfer with an index below 15 I would highly suggest playing this course if in the area. Be ready for a challenge!
Tough course
This is an extremely difficult course with little room for error. Many blind shots and a couple of +200 yards carry. Fairways in good condition but tight. Unless you drive the ball straight and with purpose you are going to be in trouble. Almost 100 pct uneven lies. Greens were just punched but still rolled ok. A couple of them were too undulated. Scenery is magnificent. Unless you have a low hcp. Not enjoyable
Great layout. Great visual
Possibly the most visually stimulating golf course I've played. While it has a "temporary" club house it has all the amenities you need. Pete Dye at his best/worst. Instead of his signature rail road ties he ysed the boulders on site. Biews and unique carries. #13, a par5 has a carry of a boulder in the middle of the fairway. Some blind shots. Great place for a business meeting.
STAFF OVERHAUL
Solid course overall. Definitely needs to be watered more and some of the holes need better signage. However, did not appreciate the staff members attitudes and hopefully soon they will be replaced by computers. Driving range is pretty sad as well. Fine to play once but see no need to play again.
Not for the high handicapper
The course was in beautiful condition. It is a difficult. Tight fairways with no forgiveness. Mounding or hugh bunkers on either side. Some forced carries. And then you reach the green and they are very large, undulating, and fast. Bring extra balls and some nourishment, no restaurant. Very pricey too.
Extremely difficult, but very scenic
The beauty and conditioning of this golf course make it a four-star performer, but unless you've got some serious golf skills, throw your expectations of scoring out the window. Quite frankly, there are very few bailout areas, and many misses aren't just penalized, they're either a wet or lost ball or impossible lie. The rock outcroppings are certainly another aspect of this course that's beautiful - until you hit one in the middle of the fairway and the ball bounces into oblivion. And the bunkers, of which there are many, are certainly true hazards, with many of them requiring you to take your medicine. While I agree this would be an interesting course for a major championship, mortal golfers are going to struggle here . And I'm not just talking double-digit handicaps. High singles, too. But if you feel like you're game is in shape, give it a whirl; it's a great test.
Not a Pete Dye Fan
I don't like courses that penalize good golf shots. Pete Dye has his good moments, but this was not one of them. The greens were a mess, both from disease and the apparent inability for members to fix their ball marks on the green, replace divots, etc. the greens looks like people were tap dancing on them in their golf spikes. The price is absurd as well.
Are you kidding me?! Not worth $$$
Summary: Course conditions no longer justify the exorbitant greens fees. Save your money.
Greens fees at $210 are nearly double the highest competitor within a 100 mile radius, which led me to expect exceptional course conditions, but I was highly disappointed after my round this past weekend. (For comparison, Ballyowen charges $140 peak but you can usually get a discount, and the turf is always in at least above average condition.) Pound Ridge's fairways were dried out in most places, and unevenly cut in many others. First cut of rough in many areas didn't look to be mowed for a few days and was highly inconsistent; tee boxes were torn up and evidenced either significant play volume or lack of basic maintenance. Most greens were in decent shape but had damage from ball marks which were either not repaired or not repaired properly. Some greens had large patches where turf was just in bad shape. The only upside is that the high fees price out most people, so you can get around very quickly.
A must play in New York if you can afford it
Course layout is beautiful and conditions are always kept up. For a NYC resident, it's a hike to play this course often. Being the only Pete Dye design course in the NYC area, this course is a must play for avid golf lovers. Price is a bit high but totally worth playing especially if played once. For me Bethpage is a lot closer and less than half the price. I also reside near the Trump course as well so I wouldn't frequent Pound Ridge often.
Only missing a windmill
Nice scenery and good course conditions. This course has fairways cut into the side of hills, large rock out croppings in the middle of greens and more rocks in the middle of fairways. This course is so contrived that it's much more like a miniature golf course than a real test. Save your money.
wanted to love it
I live 8 mom minutes from the club and wanted to join. Got there and first discovered the sand bunkers were bottomed out with water as it rained the day before. Public courses nearby All drain by next day.
The greens were nothing near as nice as what we expected.
The owner was playing behind us and the ranger came up to us and asked to speed up play. He mentioned the owner was playing behind us; too which I responded he will have to wait because I gave him 240$+ dollars to play in lousy greens and drenched bunkers.
Then came lunch. Not allowed to leave cart to go into cafe too select items. And the quality of the food was totally sub-par, no pun
I really wanted to join but they came up short.
Pound ridge. Too tough
Nice. But too tricky. Shot 86 w 42 putts. The pros couldn't break par from the tips
Worth splurge at $100!
Challenging course. Greens were very good but not great. Good value at $100 !
Did you accidentally say don't reccomend
