The Swan Golf & Country Club
About
Located just 5 minutes off of the New York State Thruway in Saugerties, The Swan Golf & Country Club (formerly known as The Lazy Swan Golf Course) is a championship 18-hole course designed by Golf Architect Barry Jordan. The course has been exquisitely crafted as “a series of linked passages of natural beauty” with each hole presenting its own unique character and challenges for players to overcome. Players will encounter several cascading and reflection ponds, rock outcroppings, dramatic elevation changes, an alpine garden, and beautiful views of the Catskill Mountains.

Interesting Layout and Friendly staff
My wife and I came up from Waterbury CT a few weeks ago and wanted another crack at The Swan. The Pro helped us get started a bit early and we didn't have to wait at all. The course will probably get in better shape based on the current heat but the greens ran true and showed interesting character. We will be back and next time with some friends.
Expected Better
If you paid 45 to 50 dollars you didn't get your moneys worth. This is a par 70 and there are 6 par 3s. Most of the holes are side by side with other holes so bring a helmet - best holes are 6 thru 9 and the 8th hole is a cool par 5 with a really high elevated tee. The roughs desperately need to be cut - either you are on the fairway or you can't find your ball. Tons of little white flower weeds everywhere. We got a great deal at 24.50 and I'm cool with that but it's not worth regular prices.
Staff are rude
I've played there 4 times now and have been treated poorly by the staff each time. The staff is either rude, indifferent, and inhospitable. Each time I've been treated like I am inconveniencing them by being there. Today we weren't done for 30 seconds before we harassed to get our bags off our cart. When I said give us a minute the pro became argumentative and again rude. There are much nicer courses out there that are more reasonable. I won't be going back again.
JR's thoughts
This course used to be in pristine condition at all times. While it is still very nice it is obvious they have cut some corners as far as maintenance goes! We have been in a dry spell and the entire course was somewhat burnt out, but that is understandable. Had I not booked with Golf Now I would not pay their regular fee given the conditions of the course even taking into consideration the very dry weather. Still I like the layout very much and will probably play again if I get the right deal. Outdoor patio for nineteenth hole is really nice!
lazy swan
Beautiful facility and not crowded and don't know why. recommend it.
Lazy Swan - Bring Your a Game
I have played this course 3 times and look forward to going back! Interesting layout, fast greens, several carries over water. Under 6,000 from the white so good drives lead to short irons. Bad shots can be penalizing. Great outdoor bar/dining area
Good variety
Good layout variety of shots needed. Traps needed work. Enjoyable
needs more shade
everything about the course was challenging. water and sand all over. greens had character, could use more trees(shade). the yardage markers needed more visibility. will definitely be back.
Lazy Swan with Brothers
One of my favorite courses. It had rained hard night before so course was a little wet but still real nice. Greens are at end stage of aeration....normally like glass but not this round. Will definitely go back a couple of times this year.
Bump City
This course could be nice, but, they had just punched the greens and tees. If we knew this, we wouldn't have played the Swan. I realize that aeration is part of course maintenance, but it should be disclosed on the Golf Now website if it's going to be a "Hot Deal"!
Great time on a great course
Played the course for the first time and it was everything that I had hoped for. Only problem was the windy conditions today which inflated scores. Greens are huge and roll very nicely. Can't wait to play it again.
good deal
price was right, got out right away, fairways where hard but in great shape, greens where excellent and a great happy hour at the outside bar.
Golf in the Catskills
Nice layout. Tees and greens were in good shape, but fairways were very dry.
Cliff Driving
I enjoyed the course. It was in pretty good shape and the greens were nice. Being a Florida golfer, it was a little hard getting used to the sloped fairways. I felt like I was being punished sometimes for driving on the fairway as I watched the ball, time and time again, go rolling off. Plus, it was hard getting used to always hitting on an awkward angle. But overall, I enjoyed it. Especially the very high tee off points on several of the holes which gave a very beautiful view of the mountains.
Needs some work
A once fine course continues to decline. Greens continue to be some of the best around but fairways are showing wear while tee boxes and cart paths are shabby and neglected. Additionally, play was impacted by wedding preparations on the #10 tee box. Management needs to decide if they are a wedding facility or a golf course.
what a great course
The course was a bit challenging, Greens are great . very scenic and nice grounds . Great outside bar , Great corse for everyone .
Great golf course
good facilities
excellent fairway
a little difficulty in green
Rude staff
Played Lazy Swan today. Course was in great shape but staff were unfriendly and rude. Could be they were too involved setting up for an outing rather than dealing with a twosome. For the money the course was very nice. May give them another try, but if treated the same will never go back.
Great course-slow pace
Pace of play was extremely slow. Course was in great condition!
