the course has good conditions
friendly staffs and good conditions. it's easy to find near highways. Fast greens and soft fairways.
Great day
Course was in great shape. The people at check in desk were very friendly and my cheeseburger and fries for lunch was great. The only thing is that they need to update the bathroom in the mens locker room. Other than that couldn't have been a better day.
Rockland Muncipal Course in top Shape
Excellent Fairways and Greens. Love to play this course when possible but in all instances, very slow pace of play. expect 4 1/2 to 5 hour round. Its been that way forever. Still a very nice course to place.
Most enjoyable
Despite the recent heat wave, the course is in very good condition. The fairways and greens are green. My lawn should be like this course. The pace was slow in the front 9 but picked up on the back. It took almost five hours to complete the round. With the sunny, dry weather, the friendly golfers I was paired with and the course conditions, it made for a pleasant outing. That I played pretty well made it even more so.
Great golf - needs wo
This is a wonderful golf course, that could use some work on management.
The course was in wonderful shape, and the design is interesting - hilly, some blind shots. The par 5s are short and gettable, but they feature strategically placed hazards.
The big problem was that they jammed everyone out in twilight time, so it got very backed up towards the end. THe back nine took 3 hours to play - too long.
No regard for pace of play...
I hadn't played SR in a long time so I thought I'd give a try on Saturday. While the facilities/buildings are a bit run down the course was in nice shape for a busy public track, & I particularly liked the more sporty back nine., overall it's a nice layout.
Now for the bad: it took 5.25 hours to play 18 holes. This is absolutely unheard of even at the busiest of courses. They send off foursomes every 9 mins. without any regard for speed of play or keeping groups in position. Starting as soon as the 2nd hole we waited on every single hole to tee off and on virtually every fairway shot as well, sometimes two groups waiting on a tee at once. We called the clubhouse twice to send out rangers. The ranger came out and said "there's nothing I can do because it's a public course." This of course is exactly the opposite reasoning that they should be working under BECAUSE it is a public facility. The first 3 players I was paired with left after 9 holes because they couldn't take it anymore, & I joined another 3 for the back. They had called for a ranger as well and he said they same thing the first one did, so obviously doing nothing to speed play along is course policy. While I still managed a respectable 82 even though it was impossible to attain any kind of rhythm, and it is a pretty course, I will certainly not be returning. If your a decent golfer who can keep pace, this is definitely not the course for you.
Back nine to remember
Great group of guys paired with the day a lot of fun once on the tenth hole.things went well settled down relaxed no cares just played within my game great result can't wait to go again
1st timer
Heard about Spook Rock for years and it was everything great re. the course. Disappointed in the pro shop and bathroom facilities but i look forward to returning
Spook Rock ........nothing to fear place is a GEM
Spook rock golf course is one of the best kept secret in the area . A lovely welcome awaits you as your greated at the check in desk . This day we where early and where promptly directed to the tee. We where met with a manicured dog leg left par 4 bunkers on both sides of fairway. Hitting your approach to a rolled green Beautiful. Wonderfully raked sand bunkers Yes Sand what a pleasure . As you make your way through the adventure call spook rock you will be met with lots of character great par 3 picturesque par 4s and challenging par 5s. Several water holes ad to the challenge. The grounds crew the Superintendent and the assistant superintendent do an amazing job the course refelts the passion they have to the course and the game .. BRAVO BRAVO thanks for the wonderful day & the excellent course can't wait to play on Sunday morning .. HIT EM STRAIGHT NOT OFTEN ENJOY
Thanks Again Stef
Ok course but very slow pace of play!
The course has a very nice layout, although the greens were very slow. I would guess about a 6 on the stint meter. We started playing at 1:20 and finished at 6:42, almost a year 5 and a half hour round just too slow. Other than those two issues, it's a nice course if you can manage to play it in a reasonable amount of time.
Spook Rock Review
great course great lay out and great people. Loved it
Really going downhill
Since this is a municipal course, you get treated as such. The roughs and around greens and traps are rarely mowed. Hit the ball 6" off the fairway and you're in 4 to 6 inches of grass, Just miss the fairway bunker, still in 4 to 6 inches of grass.Hitting out of the bunker is easier than just missing it. Plan on spending time searching for your ball. The conditions off the fairways and greens are U.S. Open caliber. Of course there is no second cut on the fairways. That said, the fairways and green are in very good condition which is the only positive.
They claim that they are short staffed and that's why the roughs need serious mowing.
Plan on adding 4 to 6 strokes to your score unless you are 14 for 14 on fairway hit.
If you play from the whites, there are no flat tee boxes anywhere. Its a search to find a spot on the tee where your feet are not above or below the ball.
The course has not been renovated in over 30 years except for repairing a few of the cart paths
This is an expensive course for non-residents of the town and there are better (and cheaper) alternatives within a 10 minute drive
Solid course in good condition
The course is challenging and in good condition. The rough is VERY tough. Unfortunately, some of the players don't repair ball marks in greens, but this is a minor inconvenience. I would be happy to play there again.
One of my all time favorites
I used to live in Rockland County and within 10 minutes of this course. I leaned to play golf at Spook Rock and was my home course which I played frequently for years. One of the best ranked town courses for years in the U.S.
Fun layout and even moving from the whites to the tips made it a different experience. Hitting over the water on 6....far enough to make the uphill dogleg on 9....the gong on 11....the par 3 13th and 18 is a great finishing hole.
Pleasant Play
Course was in great shape, greens mix of fast & slow slight rain throughout round. Played as threesome at 4 hours hour pace. Drive from Brooklyn only unbearable in New York City, arrived at course greeted by friendly & courteous staff. Fairways looked good from the woods, lol, played from the whites, challenging enough for our group, wished I was a better player, this is a course that I would play a lot.
had a good time
hadn't played here in 4 years or so, but remembered all the holes....Basically a course that you can play well on if you can drive the ball and avoid the rough/traps. Greens were a little slow for my liking otherwise I would have given the course a better rating. Some greens are really large and some are not, so you have to pay attention. Good course for a better player IMO.
Greens were in great condition!
Golf now gave the opportunity for us to play a very inexpensive round though the note was recent aerated greens. To our amazement they were in great shape. Loved the course layout and only complaint was the rough was ruff! Too long in many places. Looked like the maintenance people didn't finish all the cutting chores especially under and around trees.
NICE PUBLIC TRACK
Very nice public golf course . not too far a drive. Challenging from all tees. Rough a bit to high thus slowing pace of place. Greens not in great shape.
course is in excelle
Played this course twice, each time I play it, it gets more. Prestine as time goes on.i would recommen
