Nice Course
We played Spook Rock in MId Oct. which was a treat considering what the weather could have been like this time of year. The course was in nice condition although the greens had been recently aerated. As always when playing in the fall the leaves were brutal , but that is the case on most public courses.
Nice track, fairly challenging an overall enjoyable experience.
Beautiful autumn day
Lay out great. Some doglegs, blind shots, water and some deep rough. Only problem was , too many leaves on the course. Could have been blowing them all day.
Fun course
Course was in good condition. Paid $85, probably worth $60 so the value wasn't good but it's still worth playing for a change. I'll play here again for sure. Good bar/restaurant area too.
Great Course / Poorly Managed
Spook Rock is a great layout. Unfortunately the pace of play today was awful, and I saw no rangers on the course offering assistance.
One of those days where it seems you are waiting for before every shot and had to leave after 14 holes. I surrendered at the 15th tee when there were 3 groups in front of me.
Spook Rock is a very nice track!
This course is a must play for people on the north jersey and southern my crowd!! Excellent condition and beautiful greens ! Love playing here and golf now is fab for a good discount! Gauranteed to please all levels !! Enjoy!
Not a bad course
This course layout is challenging tight fairways not well spread out so you will here a lot of heads up. An average course and way too expensive if you don't live in county. 85$ would be a great last mute course to play in if it was around 50. Not worth the 85
Course review
Greens speed is slow. Tee, fairways and sand traps were maintained.
30 years
I have been playing Spook Rock for over 30 years and it is still a of my favorite courses to play
Nice but slow
Got a great deal from Golfnow . There were many beginner foursomes in front who were very slow , over 5 hour round! The course is in good shape although the greens were bit slow. No ranger on course to speed up play. The staff were not too friendly. Good value for the money though. Course was mostly straight forward with some challenging par4's and short but tricky par5's
A Very Good Public Track
Very good design. Top 3 for public courses in Metro area. Challenging, yet fair. Nice subtlety in bunker placement and green contours. For the most part course let's you see where you need to hit it, but there are options off the tee. #11 tee shot is a bit goofy; blind landing area with out of bounds left, sloping fairway to the right which takes even good drives thru the fairway, over the cart path and into jail or deep rough. Otherwise lots of good shot values overall.
Course maintenance could improve; yesterday some of the bunkers were not dragged so you played out of old footprints, also too many rocks in the bunkers. With a little more invested, this place would be rated even higher.
I walk and carry and this course is well suited for it.
If you're not a local you get a bit soaked at $67 to walk. I think it's $85 for riders. With quite a few other options available, I would play this course a lot more if they charged $55.
Go enjoy it.
Spook Rock- Excellent Course
Walked the course on Tuesday May 3rd as a single. Weather was drizzling all dayno major downpour. Greens are poa annua, fairways and tee boxes neatly manicured and when i was out there i thought i was at a private club. Will definitely come back to Spook Rock. Fairways for the most part are wide and greens are not massive. Grounds crew pays close attention to detail. Neatly manicured and very enjoyable from the back tees. I will be back!
Best course in rockland county, NY
Course layout, conditions always good. Staff is so friendly from cashiers, starters, clubhouse. Always a good experience, best bang for your buck in rockland...believe me I'm non-resident and played lots in area. This is a must play for those looking to play in area!!!
Great condition considering weather
Rained hard throughout the night and morning. Booked a $30 tee time at noonish and practically had the course to myself. Carts out and not 90 degrees but scatter. We love this course and play it often. The overall conditions were excellent and this year should be great.
One of the best in the area
I've played this course many times over the past 3 years. The staff is super and the course is well maintained. Pace of play in the late fall months is great. The course is somewhat challenging for a newer golfer like me. But I can see that it offer even the better players a challenge as I've played this course with 10 handicappers who said there are really no give away holes.
NIce round in late November
It is nice to get one round in at the late Fall in New York area. The overall course condition is good. Most of leaves had been cleaned. It is a nice course to play with excellent price from Golfnow.
Leaves
Great track. Leaves could have been taken care of a little more
Worst condition Ever poorly kept would never go back
Worst course conditions ever would never return to play leaves all over including the fairways and greens Give the rating as 1 star for condition at best rating the pro shop had exactly 2 dozen balls left for sale at $25 a dozen no bargain . What can you expect from a county course. Play Bergen Ocean and Atlantic County course all the time and believe me it's like comparing tin cup to Pebble Beach. In one word Spook Rock STINKS
Great Public Course
Very good price on Golfnow.com. We knew we wouldn't get 18 holes in because we had a 2:42 PM tee time. However, we only got 9 holes in because play was so slow. It just so happened that we had 2 groups directly in front of us that were not very good golfers (not that we're great golfers). I'm a firm believer that you don't have to be good to keep play moving, you just have to have good golf etiquette.
Great course
Challenging par 3s a very nice course demanding tree lined fairways
