a very good time
beautiful part of New York to play in. Fun course, with all kinds of elements: Elevation, water, plenty to think about while you look for the right club to select.
Good and bad
The course is always good but the ranger were letting people play slow for the hour of the day .....
Friendly Staff
Played Rotella on 11/9. The guy inside the pro shop (maybe the pro?) couldn't have been nicer. Knowing we never played here, he told us about a few tricky holes and gave us some tips along with a course map. Pace of play could have been better, it was a nice day for November so maybe everyone was trying to get in their last round of the year. They were rebuilding #7 so it played as a par 3 instead of 4, but overall it was a great value for a solid course. Very enjoyable round.
Rotella Round
Play this course a couple of times per year. Greens were surprisingly fast considering recent rain. Some hole placements were tougher than "usual" especially with trying to keep weekend play moving
Red tee--lady friendly
I was only able to play 10 holes due to rain but course offers a shorter overall yardage for the red tee but still challenging with the water hazzards, narrow fairways & bunker placements
One of the Best Public Courses in Rockland County
Well maintained and well run golf course. The burgers from the restaurant were great too. To keep the course moving they advised us to take our lunches to-go and eat as we played or we would add hours to our round as you must fall back several groups when you stop. It's a strict policy, but it keeps things moving well.
Do not play on a sunday
Played this course a couple of times before and loved it, however I was very disappointed this time around. We got stuck behind a group of 8 playing in front of us!! That is just ridiculous! Pace was so slow for obvious reasons that we had not even finished 15 holes after 5 hours! No rangers on the course either.
ehh
positive the course was in excellent shape
the pace of play was slow
The ranger yelled at us for pace of play when we were on the heals of a twosome has a foursome.
The bartender is nasty. Will not go in there again
Golf now was suppose to offer us lunch with our round and then the course would not honor it. So not a good experience
Excellent Course Conditions - Would Play Again
Excellent conditions. Beautiful day. Course Pro is very helpful.
Terrible Course Conditions
I've played this course many times over the years and it is always in great shape. Yesterday, the course was in terrible shape. The tee boxes were all chewed up. The greens had plenty of unrepaired divots (not the fault of the course I know) and spike marks all over the place. The faiways needed some mowing. I couldn't believe how horrible the course was. Like I said, I am always pleased with the course conditions here, but this was next level disappointment.
Rotella played well
Course was in excellent shape for mid august. Played in about 4 hrs on a friday morning, would have been faster, we were bunched up a little on the first 3 holes, but no backups.
Green speed
Front nine holes need repaired ....... Around hole
But back nine hole is better front.....
This course is very scenic
Nice course built into the Ramapo mountains. Course is in great shape.
Fun course
One of my favorite courses, as I started last year, I have been here a few times. I like this course a lot of my skill level. Its not too hard, not too long, aside from hole 6 which is very long and uphill and cant see the flag until you 80 yards away from the hole (hardest hole on course).
Its always been one of the best maintained courses I go to, so I know I dont have to worry about that. The only thing I can knock on it is that I never see a ranger pushing the speed of play when I go. A couple times now I've gone behind a foursome playing the opposite of ready golf.
But never the less, the experience is enjoyable and the course has some good golf now rates, and even twighlight rates, i believe its $29 after 4PM
Will remain one of my favorite courses, at least until I become consistently better and demand tougher coursers, but for now this one is still plenty tough
like the layout
Inconsistent greens, overall conditions rough didn't see beverage cart till the 9th hole.
Awful
Played 7 holes and had to leave due to the unbelievably slow play. Took 2:30 to play those 7 holes. We got to the par 3 5th hole where there were 12 people waiting on the tee box. We called the pro shop and they sent a ranger out who did absolutely nothing. The facilities were horrible altogether not just the slow play I will never go back here in my life. They wouldn't give us a course credit and honestly I wouldn't play even if they did. Course was in ok shape but when you wait a half hour every shot it doesn't even matter. Repeat do not play here ever. Ever. Ever. Worst golf experience ever and this is the first review I've ever done. Never play here.
Nice course but slow play
I booked my tee time thru Golf Now for a round at Rotella. It was not prepaid and I had to pay at the course. The head golf pro sold me my ticket and I assumed that I would be paired with three more people. However, when I got to the first tee, the starter told me that I would be playing alone. I asked him if there were any twosomes out there that I could join and he said there were only foursomes. I told him that I did not want to be a single waiting on a foursome but he said there was no one else to send me out with. So there I was, sandwiched in between two foursomes. I played through one foursome and found myself waiting on another foursome and there was absolutely no where to go! It was boring and also very dangerous as the foursome of men that I played through behind me were now mad that they let me through and started hitting into me. Still there was no where for me to go and I felt like a duck in a shooting gallery! It was a horrible experience and if the head golf pro knew that there would be no one to pair me with, he should never have sold me a ticket! Nothing against the golf course itself, which was in pretty good overall shape. Hey Rotella staff, you should not be sending out singles alone!!! Hopefully this review will spare someone else from having to go through a miserable round like I had.
Highly Reccomend
Course in good shape, staff extremely friendly. Felt like a private club with the exception being food and beverage. Was impossible to get a sandwich or a beer. They didn't serve hot food on a Saturday morning until 11 am?
tired of waiting
t-time interval was too short(10 Minutes).
Had to wait shot after shot until the last hole.
Will never play here again
Staff behavior here was beyond the pale in terms of rudeness. While exiting 2nd hole, an employee screamed at me for almost a minute because my cart was parked a foot off the cart path. The hole was not marked cart path only. I would have had no problem if he had just asked me to move it or keep it on the path in the future but, as a customer, I don't expect to be verbally assaulted, for any reason. This guy was stark raving mad.
Also, the pro shop would not take Amex for greens fees and had I not happened to have just enough cash to pay, I would have had to turn around after making a thirty mile trip. First time I have had an Amex card not accepted at a course in the NY area (maybe there are others that don't take it, I don't know). If this course is going to take bookings through GolfNow, there needs to be some kind of notification to customers that they don't accept all major charge cards.
As for the course, it is average at best with its main virtue it being fairly close to Manhattan. Neighboring Patriot Hills and NYCC are both much better tracks.
