Green speed
Front nine holes need repaired ....... Around hole
But back nine hole is better front.....
This course is very scenic
Nice course built into the Ramapo mountains. Course is in great shape.
Fun course
One of my favorite courses, as I started last year, I have been here a few times. I like this course a lot of my skill level. Its not too hard, not too long, aside from hole 6 which is very long and uphill and cant see the flag until you 80 yards away from the hole (hardest hole on course).
Its always been one of the best maintained courses I go to, so I know I dont have to worry about that. The only thing I can knock on it is that I never see a ranger pushing the speed of play when I go. A couple times now I've gone behind a foursome playing the opposite of ready golf.
But never the less, the experience is enjoyable and the course has some good golf now rates, and even twighlight rates, i believe its $29 after 4PM
Will remain one of my favorite courses, at least until I become consistently better and demand tougher coursers, but for now this one is still plenty tough
like the layout
Inconsistent greens, overall conditions rough didn't see beverage cart till the 9th hole.
Awful
Played 7 holes and had to leave due to the unbelievably slow play. Took 2:30 to play those 7 holes. We got to the par 3 5th hole where there were 12 people waiting on the tee box. We called the pro shop and they sent a ranger out who did absolutely nothing. The facilities were horrible altogether not just the slow play I will never go back here in my life. They wouldn't give us a course credit and honestly I wouldn't play even if they did. Course was in ok shape but when you wait a half hour every shot it doesn't even matter. Repeat do not play here ever. Ever. Ever. Worst golf experience ever and this is the first review I've ever done. Never play here.
Nice course but slow play
I booked my tee time thru Golf Now for a round at Rotella. It was not prepaid and I had to pay at the course. The head golf pro sold me my ticket and I assumed that I would be paired with three more people. However, when I got to the first tee, the starter told me that I would be playing alone. I asked him if there were any twosomes out there that I could join and he said there were only foursomes. I told him that I did not want to be a single waiting on a foursome but he said there was no one else to send me out with. So there I was, sandwiched in between two foursomes. I played through one foursome and found myself waiting on another foursome and there was absolutely no where to go! It was boring and also very dangerous as the foursome of men that I played through behind me were now mad that they let me through and started hitting into me. Still there was no where for me to go and I felt like a duck in a shooting gallery! It was a horrible experience and if the head golf pro knew that there would be no one to pair me with, he should never have sold me a ticket! Nothing against the golf course itself, which was in pretty good overall shape. Hey Rotella staff, you should not be sending out singles alone!!! Hopefully this review will spare someone else from having to go through a miserable round like I had.
Highly Reccomend
Course in good shape, staff extremely friendly. Felt like a private club with the exception being food and beverage. Was impossible to get a sandwich or a beer. They didn't serve hot food on a Saturday morning until 11 am?
tired of waiting
t-time interval was too short(10 Minutes).
Had to wait shot after shot until the last hole.
Will never play here again
Staff behavior here was beyond the pale in terms of rudeness. While exiting 2nd hole, an employee screamed at me for almost a minute because my cart was parked a foot off the cart path. The hole was not marked cart path only. I would have had no problem if he had just asked me to move it or keep it on the path in the future but, as a customer, I don't expect to be verbally assaulted, for any reason. This guy was stark raving mad.
Also, the pro shop would not take Amex for greens fees and had I not happened to have just enough cash to pay, I would have had to turn around after making a thirty mile trip. First time I have had an Amex card not accepted at a course in the NY area (maybe there are others that don't take it, I don't know). If this course is going to take bookings through GolfNow, there needs to be some kind of notification to customers that they don't accept all major charge cards.
As for the course, it is average at best with its main virtue it being fairly close to Manhattan. Neighboring Patriot Hills and NYCC are both much better tracks.
Nice Surprise
My husband and I had never played up in this area of NY and didn't know what to expect. We were very pleasantly surprised with this course. The greens and fairways were in good shape just wish people would learn to fix their own divots. There were some tricky holes which were elevated and/or had a hidden green. The only complaints I would have are 1-we teed off 30 min late and 2-we had a foursome in front of us and amongst them were two VERY new golfers and we didn't feel that the Ranger kept a very good eye on them nor did he ask them to move along hence our 5+ hour round. But, we would definitely play this course again. I am sure it is beautiful in the fall with all the trees changing colors.
Nice course - would return
Positives - tee boxes and fairways in really good shape. Greens in good shape but very slow.
Negative - staff - no one to be found outside for a while and finally got some instructions. Greens slow. Pace of play was a little below average but no ranger to be found to help.
I will return because I enjoyed the course except for one hole (can't remember the #) Par 5 with no landing zone - one side of the fairway straight up a hill the other side straight down. Just felt like they tried to squeeze a hole in. Other than that - I enjoyed the layout very much.
Will return.
great condition
Enjoyed the course - had some interesting carries and lay- ups - made it a challenging yet fun day - staff was friendly - good pace of play - excellent conditions - greens ran fairly true - would definitely play there again
More than expected....
Well maintained fairway/greens compare to other courses in the area. Great value for the money (their Burger was tasty and included in the rounding fee)!! Will go back to play!!!
views outstanding
first time 0ct.28. what a beautiful course. i'm 30 handicap but enjoyed round.
Very slow pace of play even in late afternoon (Saturday)
The staff is courteous very friendly. The course is very nicely laid out and challenging. I played a 3pm tee time on a Saturday (Oct 26) and was very surprised by a 1 hour back-up at the 4th tee. Fortunately no one was behind us and we were able to re-play #'s 2 and 3 holes. After 3 hours we called it quits at 9 holes since we were running out of daylight. I suppose if possible it is better to try playing on a weekday here instead if possible.
GREAT PLACE TO PLAY
GREAT LAYOUT, EXCELLENT CONDITION, NICE STAFF, GOOD BAR AND FOOD, PACE OF PLAY EXCELLENT, GREAT VALUE. Need I say more
Slow play but finished
Nice muni course with challenging holes. Pace of play was the issue but was allowed to finish in the dark!
Course in Decent shape Pro Shop Staff extremely friendly and helpful. Restaurant not so helpful was really hard to get any food or a drink. No beverage cart to be scene.
