Chestnut Still a Fine Mountain Course!

Course had dried out over the last couple of days, so fairways and greens were lush but not soggy; fairways were well groomed and greens fairly fast and true; a few bare spots in shaded areas; some of the tee boxes needed better sod/grass; rough around greens was thick and cause for targeting Greens In Regulation(!); remains a very good value for a challenging course with great views!

Very nice golf course

Unfortunately the 2 weeks I was in Asheville were some of the rainiest days they have ever had. This beautiful course was unfortunately soaked everywhere and made an already challenging course even harder.

If I'm back in Asheville again, will definitely play. Its very scenic and has some great holes that will challenge any golfer.

Nice course, some challenges

Played this morning, our last day in Asheville. It’s been raining everyday for the past 13 days so playing golf this and last week was sloppy and wet. The benefit is the course is in great shape. Unfortunately not being a long hitter definitely shortened my drives and approach shots as the ball stuck into the ground and no bounce or carry.

The layout is nice, beautiful views, gorgeous scenery. The challenges are knowing where to land on the greens. These greens have lots of elevation changes and hitting past a flag means downhill putts that even with a light touch they roll 4-5 yards past the hole.

The Pro Shop personnel are very helpful and the other players I came across were super nice. Someday I would like to play this course on dry turf!

A way to go

I understand that this course is in transition, but it has a way to go. The tee boxes are all crabgrass and dirt. It felt like teeing off from the rough. The cart path routes and condition are very poor. Cart paths on the roadway, in home driveways, on the grass, etc. are not appealing to me. A number of greens were bumpy, causing the ball to change course. Access to tee boxes was dangerous on some holes - scrambling up rock piles or on deteriorated landscape timbers. The views are beautiful, but the course needs work.

Wet Chestnut Adds To Challenge

Two days of rain slowed the course down - lag putts slow & harder to judge speed, no roll on fairways, high approach shots stuck at landing and cart-path-only slowed play - but all warranted by wet conditions. Added to the challenge. Still a very good value.

Chestnut a Good Challenge

Course greens and fairways in great shape; some tee boxes threadbare or mixed grasses; rough is mixed grasses and thick, even adjacent to greens; staff friendly; online booking easy; very good value!

Great mountain course

If you’re in the Asheville area, I completely recommend playing this great course. Greens are in excellent shape. Lots of the fairways are in good shape too and piece of play was great. Great value for the money. Nice work bringing this course back.

Good but slow greens

There are many good things about this course, but they need to extend the closest fairway off the tee to the left on 13. This hole is really a terrible design for all players.

The red tee boxes were in horrendous shape, even on holes where the other tees were fine.

No water on the course either.

Chestnut Pleasure

Beautiful day on a challenging mountain course - fairways and greens in great shape, rough was a fair challenge to hit out of and traps in good shape. Tees and asphalt cart paths in need of improvement. Staff friendly. Very fair price!

Chestnut Mountain Golf Course

First time playing Chestnut Mountain. The course is a true mountain course and the views are spectacular. The course is in good condition. However, the tee boxes are very hard so getting a tee in the ground can be challenging. The course has holes on both sides of the mountain. Enjoyed all the holes. Definitely will play the course again and with a little course knowledge I expect to play it even more. We enjoyed our round.
