Nice Day, Nice Round
Had fun and played well. Decent pace for a Saturday.
Improving conditions
I played this course because it's a Donal Ross design, knowing it got hit hard by Helene. Only the back nine is playable, and it is quite challenging on certain holes. The course conditions were quite good, overall, but still rough around the edges. I was told it was in far worse shape a couple years ago. It's worth playing.
Better Than Expected
The course is a typical municipal course winding thorough a community that uses the course as public green space for an afternoon stroll and walking the dog. The greens were better than expected rolling true if a bit slow. Overall the course was passable at best but as expected for a city course. Pace of play though was very slow, with groups hitting multiple balls and clearly practicing on course with little consideration for others. The front nine was ravaged by the recent floods leaving only the back nine playable. There are no practice facilities to warm up, but the putting green is nice. The staff were friendly and afternoon prices were reasonable for a holiday. We enjoyed ourselves, but only viewed it as a nice tune up for more challenging courses later in our golf adventure.
Extremely disappointing
Everyone wants a better story…extremely disappointing…could not believe how bad of shape…back night bones are good but dont waste your money..
Been awhile, happy they’re open
Hadn’t played here in quite some time. Great to see them open after Helene demolished that entire area of WNC.
Course was in good condition, no water to worry about.
Pace was good for a Saturday. Currently, to play 18 you play the back 9 twice, which they manage well.
No driving range, but a few mats that you can hit into a net.
Perfect timing
Haven't played here since the hurricane. We played on a Thursday at noon ad the course was empty. Course conditions were very good, although the greens were a little slow.
Loook carefully at the score card and play the hybrid, Helene holes for an interesting change of pace and challenge. Unfortunately it will at least a couple of years before the front 9 is fixed; at least the city is committed to keep it as an 18 hole course.
Love our munis!
Golf is for working class people, not for rich people only. This course embodies that, and for that, I love it. The back nine is a little wonky, with short holes, lots of elevation, not quite as elegant as the historic front nine. But the staff was charming, and I’d come back in heartbeat.
Coming back
Everyone needs to remember this course was wrecked by a hurricane 7 months ago. The back 9 was better than ever yesterday! The pace was good and we had friendly people in front of and behind us. The Muni is rebuilding. We had a great time!
Needs to be shut down.
Worst Golf course in the area of Asheville. Charging $60+ to play the back 9 twice is ridiculous. There should be a ground under repair sign on every inch of the fairway considering the majority is “unplayable sod”. You’d think after getting half the course wiped out by the hurricane that they’d be happy to have ANYONE play the course. Nope.. instead they give attitude and charge you a Non resident rate when you live 10 minutes from the course and have been playing there longer than any of the current workers have been working there. The starter has an attitude of a Tour player but a swing like a 50+ handicap… seen it at the range buddy. Inside staff is just as bad. Would never recommend this course to anyone. Definitely read reviews before taking a chance at Asheville municipal!!
only none holes open since hurricane Helene
was in Asheville for vacation, thought I'd get out on a Donald Ross original. The entire front nine was destroyed due to Helene. I played the back nine twice, worked out fine. Staff was good. COnditions on the back nine are okay. It is still early for the fairways to green up and grow from a long winter. It looks like they are actively out there working to get it in shape for the season.
Brutal pace of play :(
Love this course but they have to space out their tee times better. Too often it will take roughly 20 minutes per hole on the front nine, I understand the course wants to keep the course full but being forced to wait over half your round isn’t fun for anyone
NOT BAD
Course is in good shape. Only complaint is they didn't roll the greens and they were wet and hard to putt on till the last 2 holes.
