Not what you expect from a “country club”

Ok, first I have to say the staff is great, and the members are super proud of their club. They’ve invested in the greens, and they’re very nice, but everything else is beyond bad. You can’t even determine where the fairway ends and the rough begins bc there literally isn’t grass on 16 of the 18 holes. I’ve never been in a fairway and hitting off of dirt. There isn’t grass but there are definitely weeds, weeds everywhere, in fact If there weren’t weeds there wouldn’t be anything green on the course. I feel so bad dinging the course bc it really is a good layout, but I also feel duped bc when I go to a “country club”, I’m expecting a higher level of maintenance

Odd layout, interesting greens, poor tee boxes and fairways

The layout is dramatic--lots of elevation changes, a few too many blind shots, but definitely interesting. Some of the holes are poorly conceived--there's a par 5 with a lake placed so that it's nearly impossible to clear on your second shot and nearly impossible to reach the green in 3 if you don't. Expect a few good shots to produce frustrating results.

The greens are in good shape. They're quite severe, so arrive ready for big breaks and decent approach shots that won't hold the green. The tee boxes and fairways are in very poor shape. There's no delineation where the fairway ends and rough begins, the grass is patchy and full of weeds--you'll be playing winter rules here in the middle of summer.

It's cheap, and the people who run the place seem very nice. Those are the biggest pluses. I don't think I'll be returning.

Goat trail

The course is pretty beat up. I play from the back tees and the course does not take care of then at all. Most of them were patchy and poorly placed; done were even on side hill less.

The course becomes so soft after rains that my balls plugged in the fairway on nearly half of them.

The greens did roll true but were difficult to read.

It's a great practice course

Great course

This is a fun course to play. I really like the layout of the course, it is scenic, very few houses, lots of ponds, woods, and elevation changes. The greens were in really good shape and challenging. The fairways have some minor issues in spots but overall good, if you land in them you will be hitting off of grass and real dirt, not rock hard clay. The pace of play was excellent, overall this is just an enjoyable course to play.

I like this course

The fairway and green on this course are very small .This is very challenge to me but I do like it. The only thing that concerns me is that every hole is very close that confused me very much when I drove the golf cart. My suggestion to that is putting the hole number and arrow mark on cart path, that should resolve above confusion.

Good course/ great staff

First time playing and was presently surprised. Got what I expected for 20 bucks for 9 wholes. No over the top accommodations, but a nice putting green. Fairways in good shape, but be prepared for a challenge on the greens(very fast).

Side note- accidentally left my putter at home from a practice session. The gentleman running the pro shop let me borrow his personal putter for my round. I will definitely be back.

Well Worth It

Course was freshly cut. SGCC is always a challenge but the conditions were great. Greens couldn't have been better. Henry in the pro shop is super friendly and a pleasure to deal with. Looking forward to my next round here

Awesome greens!!!

Down from Maryland, visiting my in-laws in Raleigh, so I decided to check this place out and I’m glad I did. Rough around the edges and they are quick to admit it but the greens were so good. Fantastic layout, as well, hit every club in the bag. Don’t let the shorter yardage fool you, some solid forced carriers make some holes play longer than advertised. A fair test of golf from the back tees. I hope to make it back mid-summer when the trees have leaves and the Bermuda is booming. The Golf Course Manager, Henry, is an absolute gem! I’d probably still be chatting with him if I didn’t have a wife and baby! South Granville is worth the price of admission!

Played during spring. If grass would of been green it would of been a great course. Very challenging layout.

Challenging

First time playing the course. Somewhat challenging course, learned a few things about it playing it the first time. The water hazards that test your second shot on the par fives are tough.. The course was soggy but is understandable with all the rain, all the greens played differently due to the wet conditions on some and not on others. It is a nice course and I will be back in the summer!
