Course very we but greens good and diabolical
1st time playing this course - with a golfpass discount. The course was still extremely wet so cart path only, and several times had to drop from squishy lies. Due to the rain from Helene the fairways had not been cut so there was no roll. The white tees were a little too long for a mid-teen handicap, and the yellow are far too short. They could use something in between.
Greens were in great shape but are diabolical. If you are not an excellent green reader you will make a lot of 3-puts!
Nice layout
I’ll be back. The course was CPO and grass was not cut because of excessive rain. Although the greens were very nice. Will be much better when it dries up a bit. I really enjoyed the layout,
SGCC. Ron’s Review
Greens and tees were in the best possible shape. Better than most nearby courses
Plenty of wet spots on fairways and rough had not been cut for some time all of which I’m sure is due to recent heavy rains
good location and very nice Hilly course
I like the course the green is in good shape and Hilly course , with some blind shots are interesting for experience golfer. Fun experience. Will come to play again. The location is north of Raleigh and 40 mins to Cary,
It’s always fun to play here! Greens are nice lots of turtle backs so you have to put your ball in the right spot or you’re looking at three putting often. Make sure you hit the fairway. The second cut is several inches deep and you will lose your ball, even if it’s right in front of you.! Very friendly staff great deal for the money!
Fun Quick Round
The staff in the Pro Shop and out in the course are always great. I played as a single and a couple of groups let me play through. I finished in 3 hours, which was great given the heat.
No Fairways
Nothing on the course is fairway cut… at best the “fairways” are first cut length. Losing balls in the thick stuff that were hit perfectly in play. Terrible drainage, mud and tire ruts everywhere. 5 or 6 tee boxes that looked fine had aggressive signs saying you’ll be kicked out if you use them. Walked up and 9th flag was just sitting on the ground at 10am. No one near it. Decided to be kind and do the job myself while there was a worker just staring at it.
Never again.
Sigh
The greens were not mowed. Some greens were rolled but most of the greens had a heavy dew on them making putting inconsistent. The roughs had not been mowed for awhile as it was 4” and very difficult to execute a decent shot and they were wet despite the drought we are experiencing. The bunkers were like rocks and had very little bunker sand. There were several wet areas that need drainage and several tees were not playable due to construction? A very disappointing round. I am sure they do not have enough staff or money to properly maintain.

Thank you for your review. We pride ourselves on our greens. It is unfortunate that you came at a time before we had a chance to get all of the greens cut and the dew off. We're working diligently on getting everything cut and back in great shape. Yes, we do have some tee boxes closed but there are temporary tee boxes in place to use. We hope you will come back and give us another chance.
Thanks,

Looking forward to playing here in a couple of months.
Overall an enjoyable round. The course layout is excellent, forcing me to use most of the clubs in my bag and to make decisions regarding whether to play safe or “go for it” on numerous occasions.
There are several tee boxes that are off limits right now…. and signage regarding temporary tees is confusing, but once the tee boxes are back in shape I look forward to revisiting.
Surprised at some of the areas that were wet, leading to 90 degree cart rule - we haven’t had significant rain for a while.
Clubhouse and on-course staff were very cordial and grounds crew were very respectful, holding up activities and turning equipment off whenever players were addressing the ball.
Certainly good value at this course.

Thank you for your review.
We hope to have our tee boxes back open very shortly. We look forward to you coming back out soon.
Thanks,

After rain it was very good!
Rained all day Friday. 2” . Started the morning with 90 degree. By the back nine we were good to go.. greens got faster as the day went on. 3 fairways need work. And a few greens had a few brown spots. By with all of the rain it will help with the greens . Hot day. Shot my average! Good friends!

Thanks for your review.
The rain has done our whole course good. Everything is looking green and nice. We hope to see you back soon.

A great place to take friends.
I have an older gentleman who is 87 and an Air Force Veteran. He can no longer play golf because of his health.. He needs to use a walker or one of those drive carts to get around. He loves golf, so I picked him up and let him ride with me while I played a round. He absolutely loved getting out of the house and even though he could not play, he enjoyed the day. He had never been to South Granville CC. He said that it was a beautiful and someone must have put a lot of thought in the layout. We had a great time just talking while I played. The staff was very accommodating and was glad to let him ride along. The day was great and he was happy. Thank you who have served. God Bless the USA!

Thank you for your great review. We were glad to have both of you and we're glad he enjoyed himself. Please bring him back again.
Thanks,
SGCC Management
Wasted Potential
Course conditions are terrible. The hardest greens I’ve ever played, fairways are just poorly mowed weeds and the rough might as well be considered waste. Landed multiple greens and my ball bounced well over 10’ in the air on nearly all of them. It was almost impressive.
I keep giving this course a chance because green fees are low and the layout is nice, but course management is well below par.
Great Layout, Terrible Conditions
The layout of the course is fun and moderately challenging; plenty of water to play over and large greens. The course staff is also great! However, that's about it for positive feedback. The fairways are awful, full of weeds, and rock hard; unless you hit a high spin, high trajectory drive, the chances of you landing the fairway and taking multiple bounces into the rough are very high. Even if you do manage to get the ball to stop in the fairway, good luck trying to find it in the weeds; I walked past my ball 3 times in the fairway before I finally caught a glimpse of it under a massive broadleaf weed. If the fairways weren't bad enough, the rough could be rightfully considered waste area; good luck finding a ball even 3 feet off the fairway. 40% of the greens that I landed, had a 10-foot bounce and you'd be better off putting in the parking lot, it would likely be softer. I want to love this course because it's close to the house and has so much potential, but it's just not even worth the low green fees and short drive. Brevofield used to be very much like this, but they've really stepped their game up and the course has really turned around! But I'll wait 30 minutes in line on a busy morning at Brevo before I even think about considering SGA again.
Hello Corey and thank you for your review. The fairway cut hadn't been done because of all of the rain from the tropical storm. We are working very hard to get things back in shape again since all of the rain over the past few weeks. Our course is wet in some areas but that is also due to so much rain. We hope that you will come back out and give us a chance since it's starting to dry out.
