About
Avila Beach Golf Resort is located right along the bay, giving it a scenic setting that has made it the most well known of the Central Coast golf courses. The layout offers plenty of variety with a hilly front nine that features small, often elevated, greens that are surrounded by oak-lined valleys and a back nine that that is routed across a tidal estuary. Golfers should be prepared for forced carries over water and multi-tiered greens on the backside. At first the course may seem short, but thanks to the dramatic elevation changes and numerous other challenges, it will begin to feel much longer. There are several severe doglegs throughout as well as tight approaches. Avila Beach Golf Resort is not a layout where you can easily "grip it and rip it." Rather, accuracy and good course-management are rewarded.

Horrible Condition
Course was in horrible condition, for $40+ I’d recommend cypress ridge.
A shamed
Not sure what’s going on, but when you lose three golf balls in the middle of the fairway, something’s wrong. Not sure when the last time they mowed the grass, but this was absolutely terrible. We normally play more than once on our vacation down there not this time. I hope the owner reads this message and takes matters seriously cause we will not be playing there again until it is fixed. Even the locals are talking about it and are very unhappy. I am glad that my course in my town takes pride in their golf course.
Terrible Shape
Have played this course several times, great layout and beautiful site, but, the course was in terrible shape. Faiways was not mowed and mostly weeds. Greens in good shape.
Two courses one venue
This being my first time playing Avila Beach Golf Resort I only saw the riverside (back 9) from the highway. I was surprised by the hillside (front 9) course and all its challenges. There isn't much signage directing you to the next hole so fortunately my playing partner was a local.
Probably my biggest complaint is the condition of or the lack of cart paths. It was a very rough ride in many places. The fairways played softer than I'm use to and the approach to the greens required going up a club or two due to elevated greens on the front nine.
All in all we were finished in just under 4 hours and enjoyed the round. I'm looking forward to returning to play again.
Beautiful but …
It was a beautiful course, but not very well maintained. You couldn’t tell where the fairways began and the rough ended. The staff was friendly. The food was great. The view was beautiful. Could use some encore maintenance, however
Nice country atmosphere
We like this course. We've played here a few times. It is beautiful and has a nice country atmosphere. Every hole is different which also makes it interesting and enjoyable. It does need some work, too many weeds, but overall we like it and will play here again.
Course looked like it hadn’t been mowed in a week.
Lost multiple balls in the center of the fairway. This course is always in rough shape, but this Sunday was by far the worst I’ve ever seen.
Everyone was losing balls in the middle of fairways.
The center of the fairway was basically worse than US Open rough.
Interesting and unique course layout
Beautiful surrounding and great course design. Good strong golf carts in excellent condition. The river flows throughout the course and the course design is nicely incorporated into the course. Recommend!
