Lakes/Oaks at Blacklake Golf Course
About
Situated along California's Central Coast atop the Nipomo Mesa, Blacklake Golf Resort offers three different nines, each named after the different attributes of the beautiful landscape. The nines can be played in three different 18-hole combinations. Players of all skill levels will be able to find a golf course that suits them. The Lakes/Oaks Course begins with the most player friendly of the three nines. Though as the name implies, water does come into play but the fairways are wide and forgiving. The opening par-3 hole gives you a confident start but the length keeps it from being a pushover. The Oaks nine features narrower fairways that wind through groves of coastal oak trees. It is a more target-style layout where you may find yourself in the woods if you're not paying attention.

Lacks basic course maintenance
I would give the course a better rating if they would just mow the grass! The fairways and tee boxes were shaggy, the rough and fringes were cut inconsistently. The greens were bumpy but mostly because nobody repairs their ball marks, not really the fault of the maintenance staff.
Pace of play was good for a weekend round .Fun to play but could easily be much nicer.
Great Value for a 18 public course
The greens were a bit bumpy and worn in spots, and the fairways were about what you’d expect from a public course. That said, our twosome finished in just over three hours, which made for a great pace of play. We scored a Hot Deal for $36, and at that price, any minor course-condition issues were easy to overlook. We played the Lake/Oak combination, and the Oak course definitely had the better greens.
Play at Blacklake multiple times a week. Usually never any problems. This week we had reservations and upon arrival there were no carts ready as we had one in our reservation. Told to come back in 15 mins. No problem. Couple behind us signed in a cart showed up at that time. So they got to play and we waited instead of being notified we should be next. We were outside of clubhouse having drinks and a few ppl got on before we did with carts. Once we went back in we got put on a “ next “ list. Just sucked being delayed 20 mins when tee times after us got on. Still fun and will be back. I would not of wrote this but I was asked to review my experience so here it is.
Course is in Better conditon!
Course is in better condition then it has been in a whiile.
Could easily improve
Greens were nice, remainder of course in need of basic maintenance (mowing, raking and rodent control.
Improved
Condition of course improved from my last time playing there, It’s still a little bare in spots & the bunkers need some love. Greens were nice.
The layout requires a little local knowledge on some holes to avoid trouble.
The fairway grass needed to be mowed
The place is okay , just needs a little more maintenance
beautiful day
Pace was a bit slow, greens were in fair condition. Tee boxes need work, you are rarely. hitting off a flat tee box.
Pace was horrid
First issue, driving range was closed. No way to warm up but was able to do some chipping and putting. Started on Oaks. Tee time was 12:04. We were early and waiting. Pro shop told me there was a tee time at 11:56. Two guys showed up and said they were on canyons and it took an hr for one hole so they just cut in front of us because they were tired of waiting. After that, a group of 4 came up and said they were starting their back 9. No tee time for them. Just start when you want amongst others tee times. Started before them and made it 3 holes before a guy just played through without asking and then we ran into him on the 4th tee box because there was 3 groups ahead of him. Took us a little over 2.5 hrs to play 9. Lo and behold, the same exact thing happened on the back 9. We didn’t even finish the back 9. It took just too long and as we passed everyone on our way to our vehicle, there was a group of 5 holding up 6 groups of players. 7, 8 and 9 were wide open. One marshal with zero enforcement and no organization. Course is nice and I think the greens were decent but not decent enough to deal with the horrid pace of play. Tee times should be issued for front and back 9 since they’re different courses and they have people teeing off from all of them for their front 9 simultaneously. I won’t go back.
