Solid course
Great player assistants very friendly and kept pace moving. Course layout is pretty simple but fun
Good course, but SLOW play
Mather is a mixed bag; the course is a nice layout, but the greens are just way too slow; The greens keeping staff were watering the greens as we played, so
perhaps they’re battling to not lose them, but it’s amazing to me how slow they were compared to playing here late March/early April, when they were great. Also, I don’t understand the lack of rangers policing for pace of play; a 5 hour round starting early on a weekend morning is such a disappointment. That said, the Pro Shop and Clubhouse staff are great, very very helpful.
Wet
Greens were shaggy. Fairways were swamped. I get the water heavy due to heat. But overwatering for sure on some fairways
Great Day of Golf
Mather Golf Course is a great course, with a varied, challenging layout and well-kept bunkers and greens. The staff, Pro Shop, range and clubhouse restaurant are all excellent, combining to make Mather a good addition to your course rotation.
Quick Round
The course was not busy. I played on my own and only had one foursome in front of me. They were nice enough to let me play through. I was able to get around in 2 hours and 45 minutes.
SLOW
I had a course marshal playing with us, and the two groups in front of us were painfully slow, yet he did nothing about it. I ended up walking off the course in the back nine. Also, there was a lot of vehicles operating around the golf course while we were playing, to include a tractor literally 5 feet behind us as we were teeing off.
Cut the grass
The grass was absolutely way too long on the second cut… If your ball was not right in the fairway, you could easily lose your ball right off of it in 4 inches of grass and even if you could find your ball, it was nearly impossible to hit it. It’s like you were playing the U.S. Open type conditions.
