Forget the golf, visit Kinghorn Golf Club for the views. Okay, maybe you don't want to forget the golf altogether, but you'll certainly want to pack a camera along with your golf clubs. Located in Fife, this 18-hole links golf course plays with a backdrop of the Firth of Forth. From the course you can see the Forth Bridge, Edinburgh and its landmarks, and Bass Rock.

The course at Kinghorn Golf Club is 5,166 yards and a par 65. You get tested right away on No. 2, a 219-yard par 3 that's trickier than it looks, what with an uphill shot that's normally straight into the wind. No. 3, another par 3, offers not a metaphoric wall but a literal one. Your tee shot has to clear it and stop on the green.

There are no par 5s at Kinghorn, but maybe there should be. The par 4s waver from the short - a 262-yard sixth that relies on you hitting your drive to the right place and your second shot accurately - and the ridiculously long, like the 462-yard eighth. Here you have to hit it long, but avoid the out of bounds on the left and hold on the sloping fairway.

Eight and No. 13 are generally considered the hardest at Kinghorn Golf Club. Thirteen - nicknamed "Lang Whang" - is a 439-yard par 4. The length is manageable, it's the "hitting into the wind" part that makes it tough. You finish on 18, the menacingly named "Cryin' Hill," a challenging 196-yard par 3.

Kinghorn Golf Club was founded in 1887, making it one of the oldest golf courses in Scotland. Starting as a nine-hole course, the final nine were finalized in 1947.

Great course for first ever 18 holes

Heard a lot of good things about kinghorn and advised to play for my first time playing 18 holes. Course was well kept, views were stunning, greens were immaculate (and extremely fast) and place overall was great. Shame kitchen is out of service for foreseeable as would have been a nice end to a great round.

Fun track

Enjoyed playing Kinghorn. Tough in a strong breeze but a fun track to play. Couple of crossover holes but over all we enjoyed the course. Some stunning views over the Firth of Forth.

Great value for Money

Really enjoyed Kinghorn. After weeks of rain we wanted a reasonably priced links course that could be in good condition. Weren't disappointed when we arrived. Course bone dry and greens really good. Excellent views as well. Will be back.

Kinghorn

Never played the course before even though I have lived not far all my life. Will definitely play it again. Course was in great condition. Greens ran really well (slight heave in sand). Had a great time and staff were very nice and helpful

Freezing conditions but a warm welcome

Played Kinghorn yesterday in -2 conditions. Course flows really well but conditions made it hard to enjoy. Very warm welcome though and a course I will definitely re visit in the better weather

Thumbs up 👍

First time played and great conditions for winter.

Greens were immaculate.

Only criticism is better signage from green to tee as every hole were temporary tees as expected and didn't know where we were hitting to and got taken off track twice but locals were very helpful to guide us back.

great fun

First visit to Kinghorn and recommend. If it wasn't so close to other links courses it would be far more talked about. No wind and winter tees made it easier but would like to experience in summer when the links effect would be more obvious. A lot of fairways cross in the opening 9 holes which causes backlogs. The longer holes are not overly long. First 9 very linksy. Views are amazing and staff very friendly. Fees are a bargain. Didn't get to play 18 from its quirky tee.

Picked a great day for my first round at Kinghorn in over 40 years. Enjoyed playing there in my younger years and it was fantastic to be back once again. The course is great fun and kept in good condition. Not the longest course but it packs a punch and needs to be navigated carefully. Staff in the clubhouse were great and the views out to the firth are breathtaking. A must visit for anyone in the area and great value for money.

Nice wee course

This course is small in length but is well protected by the course layout.

It's basically a links course on top of a hill with it's dips and valleys, wind and layout. It was a bit dry on the fairways but the greens were immaculate though very fast.

Feature holes are probably the 3rd and the 17th both very difficult par 3's.

Good golf course which we will return too and would thoroughly recommend.

Excellent Course but don’t follow the Texas Scramble

Played the course with my son (first time) for my 3rd time of playing. The weather, course, facilities and staff were excellent and I would recommend playing without hesitation with one caveat.

We were behind a visiting two ball who themselves were behind the tail end 4 ball of a Club Texas Scamble Competition who were excruciatingly slow in their rate of play. The gap between them and the previous 4 ball was marked. This unfortunately diminished the enjoyment of the round for us. It has usually taken 3 1/2 hours to complete the courses previously but we took well over 4 1/2 hours on this occasion.

When waiting on the tee boxes for extended periods, it did however provide the time to take in some phenomenal views afforded when playing this fun and quirky course.

We will be back, but not behind a planned competition.

Great little course with amazing views

Great little links course on cliff top with amazing 180 degree views across the Firth of Forth. It's a quirky short course but tricky when the wind is up. The greens and general course condition is usually excellent. Friendly clubhouse and great value for money.
