If you're looking for stately history and lore in your Scottish golf, don't look at Cowdenbeath Golf Club. Built in 1988, it certainly doesn't have the seniority of St. Andrews, but it makes up what it lacks in gravitas with character and charm.
Located six miles east of Denfermline, Cowdenbeath Golf Club was built as a nine-hole course on the old Dora Coral mine site (the golf course is still commonly known as "Dora"). Cowdenbeath was ready for play in 1991 and extended to 18 holes in 1996. The length is now 6,207 yards.
It's a parkland layout with, what its Web site describes as, "gentle undulations and tree-lined fairways." The site also boasts that Cowdenbeath is a "challenge for both high and low handicappers."
The golf course features only three par 3s, but also only one par 5, No. 17, a 526-yard beast. The longest par 4 is No. 8 at 428 yards.
The clubhouse at Cowdenbeath Golf Club opened in 1998.

Very basic public course
Probably a great place to learn to play golf. Especially since the council do a great offer on this course and others.
However it's pretty basic

Wide gateways difficult rough conditions well kept course
First time.
The course at Cowdenbeath Golf Club is modest but enjoyable. I didn’t expect too much but was pleasantly impressed. I enjoyed many of the holes and thought it relatively well maintained. I will be looking forward to playing again.
First time playing
First time playing the course and we will be back. The greens for this time of year were amazing. Wide open fairways so I would say it's not the hardest course out there but it's a course you can have fun on.
Excellent Upkeep and friendly staff
Played at Cowdenbeath a fair amount now and I have to say I have not had a bad experience yet, the course is always kept up to the highest standards, even tho iv played a couple winters greens. The actually greens remain in excellent conditions. The course is on the easier side but this is excellent for my friend and myself as we are beginners and have less that than a years experience. The staff are always friendly and I have to add that Peters customer service is top tier.
Winter greens!
Course was sodden although given recent weather can’t really fault the club for that. I was disappointed however to turn up for my round at 11.15 to find out that the decision was made at 8am to switch to winter greens despite the good forecast and having went round the greens were the best thing about the whole course in terms of condition so that was disappointing. Likely be back back not until the summer.
Great parkland course!
Thoroughly enjoyed my round at Cowdenbeath. The course is very challenging for me. I was very impressed that it was still open and playable after all the rain we had this winter so far.
Play was a little slow, strange because they were only two players but were about three holes behind the group in front (4 ball).
The staff and other golfers were very friendly and helpful. The clubhouse was closed by the time finished (it was Christmas Eve mind you 😁
