Golfer Reviews
Twilight Golf at Atherstone
We played when it was at its driest, the green and tee boxes were well maintained and watered, the greens would hold a well struck high shot, but were still nice and smooth & quickish to putt on.
The course is very hilly so this is something you need to take into consideration if choosing this for the first time. In addition there are quite a few blind holes, which for us playing the course for the first time made it quite tricky, I know you can view the holes on your phone but a little board with a map at the start of each hole really would have helped.
In general the layout of the course is good, however there are a few what I call silly holes, (namely 3 & 7) I like holes that present options, risk & reward but are not too fond of ones that there is only one way to play the hole (in this case you must play short iron to the corner and then again to the green). This of course is just my preference but if something could be done it would make the course better still.
We played in the early evening on the Twilight rate of £25 which made the course really good value and would recommend the course to others, with the warning of hills ahead.
Not in good state
Course not in good state and won’t recommend for traveller like myself
Course closed and took £90 for a 3 ball
Got there. Course was closes according to a member. Tees were taped off and greens were covered in sand. No answer to ringing them for 3 days. Also no return call from golf now. Absolutely p*ss poor from both
No staff and 0nly 6 holes open
Booked this on saturday. No phone call or email to stay the course would not be open. At this moment in time. There has been no contact from the club. I rang the office. Went to voicemail and then said the voicemail was full, so could not leave a message. Rang the greenkeepers extension. No answer and no return call from the club.
A Hidden gem
A great course that has some very interesting holes that get you thinking.
Stunning golf course
Played Atherstone Golf Course Sunday 31st May , the course is quite dry atm but holding up well. The fairways are striped and look really nice and the greens are in great condition receptive and roll true. Bunkers are all trimmed and tidy, tee boxes are also in good shape .
Some of the views on this course are stunning , it isn't a long track but is is very tight with quite a few blind shots which makes this course a tough test of your golfing ability. I would recommend this course to anyone it is hilly so I would recommend a buggy if you are playing it for the 1st time.
.
Course is hilly
Course didn't seem to long but very hilly ,a buggy would be advised . Tee's, greens & bunkers were really good .
Discusting customer Service
I booked this course for two people on Sunday. I emailed the course to ask if we could book a buggy as one of the golfers has a prosthetic knee and couldn't walk the course. I called every day, at least five times throughout the day, trying every available option. No one answered, and I left a voicemail but received no call back. I turned up on the day to ask for the buggy, only to be told they were all booked out for a ladies' day. I told them about my contact, and they said they didn't know and to contact whoever I booked it through. Absolutely disgraceful. Don't go here.
Get a Buggy!
Second time playing this course and walking with a Trolley, I will not make that mistake again!
This is a great course but MY God I ache today from all the walking and hills. The course was in good condition with lovely Greens, quite a few blind tee shots and a real challenge for high handicappers.
But I will be back and next time I'm getting a Buggy!
Tidy
Lovely course with friendly staff
Plenty of hills it's constantly up and down
Very well looked after with some challenging holes
If anything I'd say the layout is a bit tricky having to walk a bit to the next tee on some of the holes
I did manage to lose my way but other golfers are happy to help and give you directions if needed
I liked it as it's challenging but reachable in regulation
Definitely go back I can imagine it will be beautiful in the summer months
Great course in a lovely setting
Great to get back to Atherstone to play again. Most other courses in the area were shut due to the recent rains but Atherstone was very playable with only a few holes closed but the general condition on fairways was a credit to ground staff, as were the greens which were amazing given the recent weather.
Had really challenging round but the views and weather made it pleasure to play.
Good pint and sandwiches in the club house afterwards was appreciated, as was the friendly service from the young lad behind the bar.
We aren’t members of a single club preferring to visit clubs in the area and we all agree that Atherstone is one of our favourites to visit.
Course closed - refund not happening?!
We had a tee time but the course was closed due to frost. That’s fine, I never mind when greens keepers want to protect a course. But no refund?!?! I’ve tried calling the club about 20 times but no-one ever picks up…
Technical and fun
Great technical course in good condition considering the time of year. Only issue was that winter mats were in play on some tees and not others which meant a different tee off nearly every hole.
Overall a great course with some really tricky holes
Great course normally
I like this course but I won't be back until the better weather returns. It probably should have been closed for paying guests more so at full price, it was cold but 5 greens where solid frozen as the sun doesn't reach them this time of year. I have no problem with temporary tees but the ones used are small and could be better quality as your slipping when trying to tee off. Slightly disappointed but the course is still good and the holes that the sun was on were very nice.
