Improvements being made

Played PGA and Derby. Always find PGA a good fair test. The derby course is having tees extended and bunkers improved. The back 11 holes once you go over the road are decent. First few a bit meh apart from the short 3rd. With the improvements being made and the new spa and accommodation that have been built, a golf overnighter with the PGA and Derby course wouldn't be out of the question. Although you'll always look longingly at the Brabazon

First sunny day of the year.

Some of the best greens I've ever played on at this time of year.

Fairways were a bit 'woolley' but understandable as to why they have to be, given the weather for the last 3 months. Still perfectly playable and enjoyable.

All the staff were welcoming and friendly.

Sausage rolls!

Great course to play despite the poor weather recently - greens quick for this time of the year and an absolute pleasure. A few boggy fairways but it's winter golf after all!

Make sure you get a sausage roll from the halfway house !

Day at the derby

My local course closed due to weather, so looked on GolfNow for a round and the derby came up as an option. Played the brabazon last year and really enjoyed that in the summer. So had a look online to see if the derby was playable in the wet. Answers came back quite mixed with some saying superb and others saying hard work. We were only a 2 ball so thought ‘why not’. Turn up within an hour of the tee time and very straight forward to sign in and find the little shuttle to the first tee. Got to the first tee and considering the weather (rain the night before but cloudy during the day of play) they were in very good condition. Tee’d off and had a very enjoyable round. No issue with pace of play as we were only a 2 ball and the group infront were fairly fast paced and the group behind were occasionally in sight. Would reccomend to any of my golf mates to go. 10/10

Great condition for the time of year

Stunning pro shop, good range facilities. Course in great condition for weather and time of year. No GUR marked but obvious it should’ve been in places. Bunkers were full of water. No mats or winter greens is a win for me anywhere in December! Excited to revisit in the summer.

Unbelievable

Couldn't get over how good of a condition the course was in for the start of December. We as a group play golf regularly on weekends. Travelling around the Midlands playing some fantastic courses. As you can imagine the conditions of courses deteriorat over the winter. You could of sworn if it wasn't for the cold air we was playing in the middle of spring. Yes there was a couple of boggy places but overall it was in unbelievable condition. Very impressed. Back on the 27th for another round.

Derby course

For 22 pound. Can’t really beat a course with the facilities the belfry can offer. The derby is great for beginners and was perfect for me for my first solo round. Will be back and look forward to trying the PGA course too.

Good Condition

Course plays well despite the recent weather, all maintained very well barring a few of the greens which are slightly patchy in some areas but speed of the greens is unaffected. A lot of maintenance going on which will hopefully make the course better in the new season. All in all, great value for money.

Great day out. Excellent facilities with a nice driving range also. Big distance between the range to warm up and the course though. Staff were excellent and the course itself was beautiful, if not a little easy with large fairways and forgivable rough. The cost of the beer afterwards was a little steep!

OK FOR £28

What I expected as I have played here before.

Considering it is £28, and the PGA is £80 and Brabazon £180, it is to be expected it will only be on a par with other clubs that charge £28 green fee. Greens good conditions and fairways ok.

Lots of bunkers neglected and GUR.

neglected course

course in a really neglected condition. we expscted the course to be parched due to recent weather, but not in the unmaintained condition we found it. other that the greens which were good. the bunkers especialy some on the front nine were overgrown, and in need of serious attention. but it was just in the general poor state of the course we were disapointed with. there were preparations taking place for a major competition, maybe resourses were used elsewhere. all in all deciding to play the derby course on that day was an expensive (£45 for the round each) mistake.

A round on the Derby

I have played the Derby course a number of times over the last 3 years and have often commented this is one of the best value courses in the Midlands. However, we played on Tuesday 19 August and were really disappointed to find the majority of bunkers unplayable given they had lack of maintenance undertaken on the bunkers for some time. Most were heavily weeded and had hardly any sand.

What was really disappointing was we were not made aware through the booking arrangements or at the check in at the club house. If we had known we would have played other courses in the area.

Nice, wish it was better maintained compared to other courses next door

On the Derby Course the greens were in fairly good condition however, the rest of the course was fairly brown and dry in several places you can see the other courses PGA national and Brabazon were well watered and maintained especially Brabazon due to British Masters being played later in the week. It would have been nice to see the maintenance being applied to the Derby course as well.

Overall it was a nice course and not particularly difficult as most holes were reachable par 4's and 5's I felt some of the Greens can be bit challenging re putting due to pin placements for the price paid its good value. the only criticism I felt that the buggy hire is overpriced being £50 per buggy as most courses do it at £25/30 due to premium location I would think £40 would be the right price point. to feel really good value.

Shocking

Not great. Fairways are terrible but to be expected due to lack of rain, bunkers are a joke. Pace of play was very slow, waiting ages on most tees. Disappointing

Good course but!

I have played the Derby many times and found it really enjoyable. Fairways great. Greens really good and testing.

50% of bunkers poor

However this time the waiting to tee off was ridiculous for the back nine . We were in a three ball with two groups of four balls in front of us all waiting at hole 11 and the rest of the round was that slow. It looked like there were just too many playing rather than slow play.

Im sure it was a one off

Sort out the bunkers please
