Dean Wood - A tale of two nines.
Dean Wood is a great course. The layout is noticeably different between the nines. Front nine is flatter, longer, but strategy still plays a part. There's more than one way to.play each hole right from the tee shot.
Back nine, is where you see a altogether hillier outlook. Holes tend to play shorter but smaller greens and elevation changes more than make up for its lack of length with precision being paramount.
Today the course was in amazing shape, the fairways were the best ive played on all year, (of the ones I hit) the greens were truly of the quality you'd expect on a tour venue. Unfortunately there was one issue that didnt spoil the day, but stood out as everything else was so good. The bunkers. Hardly any sand in any of them, just a clay like hardened mud underneath what once possibly used to be sand. Such a shame really. But it does remind you that sometimes bunker maintenance is overlooked by greenskeepers.
Course in great condition
