Very wet and muddy in lot of places and ball plugs of the fairways. Be better in the summer
Cheap round
Course was not in a good way, I understand the weather has been a bit iffy here and there however a lot of the fairways didn’t seem to have been maintained, occasionally having to search for my ball in what was supposed to be the centre of the fairway
Winter tee boxes in use on a few holes despite the site saying all tee boxes now back in operation
Cheap round and I think it was overall good value for money, course layout was good and is much more challenging than it reads on paper
Think this could be a much better course with a bit more care.
Better than thought (raining last few days)
The course held up better than I thought it would. It had been raining the last few days. It was wet & shots were plugging but not too bad. Held up well for the weather it had received
Terrible greens
The greens had more sand on them than there is on Benidorm beach, get the ball rolling on line it picked up thst much sand, it started to veer off in a different direction! Pick the ball up it looked like Saturn. The green staff are aragant im on the tee on a par 3 and they just pull up on the side of the green and starts shovelling sand all over it! No consideration for someone about to hit a ball in that direction, they could of done some work to the course layout so you play more across instead of up and down, up and down the hills
Awful condition
7am Tee Time
Groundsman was super friendly and offered some encouragement.
Course is in dreadful state, really muddy, balls literally plugging on the fairway on one hole.
Winter tees are in some very strange positions, I actually thought I was playing the wrong hole at one point 🤣.
Heard it's great in the summer months but cannot recommend in winter or wet months.
Realistically it should not have been open today.
Boggy Boggy Boggy
I was expecting some holes to be boggy. Last played in September last year and was a little boggy then. But today it was horrendous. Lost 5 balls from being plugged somewhere in first cut of rough. They should really look to reduce the amount of holes available through the winter. Won't be playing there again unfortunately.
Staff friendly as always.
Terrible conditions
Bad ground throughout, winter tees in poor positions. Should have been closed.
Horrific conditions
The course had been shut for two weeks due to rain but golf now still let us book. Played three holes and walked off complete mudbath
Golf Review
The course was a mud both, should never have been open for health and safety reasons, what a waste of my time and money
Haigh Hall
The course has very poor drainage causing under food, club heads, and equipment full of mud. It’s a shame because the course is set up well and is excellent in the summer.
Do not play during winter/wet months.
Second time of playing here. First was summer of last year and apart from pace of play being a bit slow I was impressed with the course conditions and layout. What a difference second time around. Course conditions were very very bad. Course was boggy all over and it was fifty fifty whether you found your ball after it being plugged virtually on every shot. Pace of play again was very slow. Trolley wheels were inches thick in mud when finished and nothing at all available to clean them off. Would probably give it another go in summer but never again this time of year.
Less Golf Course, More Slip-and-Slide
Very unacceptable conditions, if this was a privately owned it would never be open during the winter months. The fairways for the most part are overgrowing and sodden. Every walk to a tee box is an endurance test in how much you can slide and push your way through slime mud. This is really a bog masquerading as a golf course.
I fell multiple times trying to walk round this course with a simple push cart. I saw one chap fall over and get so covered in mud he left after only playing a handful of holes.
The greens are surrounded by deep mud, so chipping is out. The greens themselves are okay, they're about the only thing which seems maintained. You could play winter rules with preferred lies but you'd be looking forever to find a piece of decent turf to hit your ball off.
Pace of play is exceptionally slow, I was told their was minimal groups in front of me (3 max), but when out on the course is was rammed. I assume most people just walk on without paying.
Full of dog walkers and ball pockers
Good cause but full of dog walkers and ball pickers apart from that course is a good one to play
Very wet underfoot
I have played this course before, a well laid out and good quality council/public course.
However it was very wet underfoot, had it been a private members course I suspect it would have been closed.
I am minded however I paid approximately £10 for the round. I will be more than happy to return but only after a dry spell.
Quagmire
In my opinion, any other course would have been closed. The course was a complete mud bath. Fell twice, slipped several times, completely covered in mud. Played 9 holes, walked off and asked for a refund, which we got without argument.
Haigh Hall
Enjoyable course with the dry weather helping the course conditions - known to be bad conditions in winter - overall would play again!
