Holes 18
Type Resort
Par 71
Length 6391 yards
Slope 121
Rating 69.7

Rancho Las Palmas Resort & Spa offers 27 holes of championship golf. Divided into three nines: North, South, and West, the courses are played in three different 18-hole combinations. The South/West Course enjoys the snow-capped Mount Jacinto as a backdrop. Thousands of palm trees cover the rolling terrain and there are six lakes that come into play throughout all three courses. There are also strategically placed bunkers along the greens. The West nine's third hole is possibly the golf course's toughest. It's lengthy at 645 yards and it presents a challenging third-shot approach to an elevated, double-tiered green. The layout offers a few challenging holes but it is still quite player-friendly. In addition to the scenery and playability, another attractive quality is that a round can be played in less than four hours.

Course conditions

The greens and fairways are nice. Maintenance asked me to skip a hole because they were applying fertilizer. Superintendent told me the course was scheduled to be closed when I teed off, I guess that’s the reason the rate was discounted.

Last Minute Round

Grabbed this round a couple hours before the tee time. Turned out to be a great idea. Tees, greens, and fairways were in great shape. Some bunkers had been updated, but some were pretty hard. That’s the only negative. Other than that, it was a great day!

Pretty Rough Shape

The greens are very hard and won't hold an approach shot. The fairways were pretty rough and the rough was really rough. It is clear that they are waiting to complete their renovation next year and they aren't going to put much $ into course improvement or maintenance.

The person managing the pro shop was grumpy. I asked them a couple of questions and received one or two word answers without barely looking at me. I don't think they cared that they are in the hospitality business.

Wash Ruins Course

This course has almost all of the holes on the North 9 intercepted by a large wash. Even in dry weather, it's muddy & has water. Second time playing -- we thought we'd give it another change, but won't return. South 9 has a couple holes with wash; otherwise nice & straight forward.

Fairways - greens in great shape.

Course was in good shape but outlining areas are rough and unkept. Overall the tee box, fairways, and greens were very good shape.

Fun layout

The greens were in good shape. This was a fun course to play with nice elevation changes. I would play it again as I thought it was a good value.

Front 9 was wonderful - then the turn.

Played this course as we were staying at the hotel. The checkin and front 9 were wonderful. Good pace of play, nice layout and very nice conditions.

Then we made the turn.

Arrived for the next 9 at 1:30pm. The starters were gone, the golf shop was closed, there was no one in golf cart return. A group of 4 suddenly appeared at the start of our back 9(north course). Not just any new foursome, but the slowest foursome I have seen in a very long time. It was an oar 5, but after 7 stokes, 2 of the players were still over 120 yards uphill from the green.

We went to find someone to talk to, but as stated, no one was there.

We just quit. However, we needed someone to call the hotel to pick us up, as this is how er got to the course. Good luck with that. I ended up shouting through a lock golf shop door to the woman closing up. We got our ride back.

So value for the money? No. $90 for 9 holes? Not good. Very unsatisfied.

Decent

Fun short track. Could use a marshal for pace of play but still not that bad. Greens little slow but consistent. Bunkers are crap need a lot of work. Would play again if the price is right.

Disaster on the course

Recent rain shut down 9 holes of this 24 hole golf course. We were told by the pro shop we’d be playing 15 holes only, no biggie. Range is closed. The starter sent us off on the 1st and we tee’d off. Then a different starter angrily approaches us and tells us we’re supposed to tee off on the west course. Doesn’t give us any instructions and expects us to find it ourselves over a mile away. He also didn’t explain that hole 1-3 literally don’t exist although the signage is still there. So we eventually make it to hole 4 of the west course. I can see past the mud due to recent rain, but the greens were spotty and there were human sized goose turds lining the greens. Yikes. Pace of play was a disaster based on the fact that people were clamoring all over trying to play 18 holes of golf on a 15 hole course. Groups jumping in front and behind. No Marshalls in sight. My twosome joined the twosome in front of us to make a 4 some and make the best of our time on the course. We won’t be coming back when there are dozens of other local courses in the area for a similar or better price.

Not playable

The North Course runs through the watershed valley that cuts through the course. It was extremely muddy. If you hit your all anywhere near the mud, you likely had to leave it. This nine should not have ben open. Not only was it inconvenient, it was dangerous in spots.

Dirty and poor layout

The course has potential but ...

There are deep canyons with drainage ditches in many places. I'll guess the ditches are partly to blame for the garbage (cups, lids, wrappers) strewn over much of the course. Hit a ball into the mess and it is lost!

The fairways were not mown when we played. Actually lost two balls hit down the middle (garbage to blame her).

Maybe they will clean it up but play somewhere else until January.
