Castle Bay Country Club
About
Although it is tucked away just north of Hampstead, Castle Bay Country Club will make you feel as though you've been transported to the British Isles. The golf course offers an authentic Scottish-links design that incorporates the natural wetlands of its coastal Carolina location, giving it a truly unique character. The landscape of rolling dunes is covered with native grasses but completely devoid of trees. Tall sand bunkers are strategically placed throughout and there are also expansive waste areas, both characteristics that are true to its links nature. Water hazards come into play on several holes as well. Accurate shot placement is the key to doing well on this course and just like any seaside links layout, the coastal breezes play a prominent role. Much of the difficulty of the golf course comes from negotiating with the prevailing winds.

Great Links Course
Overall course condition was good. Greens were in very good shape. Pin placement was challenging and with 15-20 mph winds, it made the course challenging, especially holes directly into the wind for a real Scottish links experience!
Love Castle Bay
I love this course. Staff is friendly. Course is in good shape and should only get better as it continues to green up. I hope that more people will take advantage of the restaurant so that they can extend their hours.
Fun course
The wind can always present a bit of a challenge. This is a links style course with no trees. Always a good time.
Fine course
Course was fine. Some interesting shots, more blind shots than I’d prefer but the greens were in great shape. Friendly staff, fun finishing hole
Great Greens for February
I played with 2 younger guys, both very good players and we had an enjoyable afternoon. I was informed that they had rolled the greens earlier that day and the greens were excellent.
The course is in good condition, except for where people drive in some low wet areas. The staff is always very friendly from the pro shop to starter to the on course
cart lady. .
The only negative is the slow play, and today it was a twosome 2 groups in front of us. The GPS reminds you how far behind the pace you are, but they do not speak to the group that is slowing down the play.
Castle Bay Golf Club
Our tee time was for Friday, Feb 18, but it was raining - we asked for a rain check and the PGA Pro gave me a rain check for 2-of us for weekdays only - we were visiting from out of town. We paid GolfNow approximately $89 for 18-holes - it was nice on Saturday, Feb 19, so we called Chapel Bay for a tee time.- the Pro took our rain check, but applied it for 9-holes only - so we ended up paying $89 for 9-holes. We did not like the layout of the course and it was cold and windy. We had two slow golfers in front of us and we did not think the course was in good shape - it was wet due to rain and no grass. We will not go back to this course - the pro was unprofessional and took advantage of our situation with the rain and over charged us. He gave us a rain check for (week days) only even though our GolNow was originally for Friday - weekend rates.

Need a Ranger
I play Castle Bay about once a month, and the price is reasonable , staff is great, conditions are average to above average. They have new carts with GPS which should help with pace of play. There is a range and a chipping and putting practice area. I usually get paired with friendly playing partners, and enjoy my round.
The last round was a little disappointing, taking close to 5 hours. The annoying part was the GPS tracks your pace of play and after each hole displays how far behind the pace of play your group is. The problem is you can only play as fast as the group in front of you !!! So it should be very easy for the staff monitoring pace of play to see which group is causing the problem, and have a ranger speak with that group.
You do not even need a ranger on course at all times. If our group is 35 minutes behind, and the group behind us is behind, and the group ahead of us is behind then it is either the group in front or possibly in front of them. As it happened to be the group in front of us, as we were waiting on every shot from the 3rd hole on. And by the 11th hole, there was a par 5 open in front of them.
