About
Although it is tucked away just north of Hampstead, Castle Bay Country Club will make you feel as though you've been transported to the British Isles. The golf course offers an authentic Scottish-links design that incorporates the natural wetlands of its coastal Carolina location, giving it a truly unique character. The landscape of rolling dunes is covered with native grasses but completely devoid of trees. Tall sand bunkers are strategically placed throughout and there are also expansive waste areas, both characteristics that are true to its links nature. Water hazards come into play on several holes as well. Accurate shot placement is the key to doing well on this course and just like any seaside links layout, the coastal breezes play a prominent role. Much of the difficulty of the golf course comes from negotiating with the prevailing winds.

Great value near Wilmington
Fast championship Bermuda greens, well maintained bunkers. A great value too!
Course was in good condition. Greens were smooth. Pretty receptive. Would definitely come back
Great course - friendly and accommodating staff
We had a 1:40 pm tee time but my group got there early and they worked to get us playing our round about 40 minutes early.
The carts have everything you could ask for - ordered food from the restaurant on hole 7 and it was delicious.
It was cold and windy for a Good Friday outing but the sun was out and we had a blast. I would recommend to anyone visiting the Wilmington area.
Enjoyed everything about this course except for the pace of play. Got stuck behind an eightsome?? Left after 5 hours with a few holes to play...

Course was in good condition for early in the year. Had a great time.
Early spring conditions
Still waiting for grass to grow in. Fairways very tight. Greens were in great shape.
windy
CB is a fun layout. very links like and windy, but that makes it really a cool challenge. defiinitely return on a regular basis.
Rough winter?
Course conditions were poor. Looks like it did not survive winter well. Actually, the course looked neglected - tees everywhere on tee boxes, hardly any grass left on fairways, no starters. Was disappointed as I had golfed there previously but the change was dramatic. Brought guests with me and was embarrassed. Would not recommend until they get their act together.
Lack of info
Driving Range remodel just began in Mid-March? The grill/snack bar closed on Mondays?
The course was over booked for tee times and nobody was monitoring pace of play. Waited every hole 5-10mins to tee off or hit second shots. No information on website about the range not being open, who starts a large renovation in March in NC? Course was full but no food except candy snacks? Seems like they could offer a bit more especially for $52 a round in early season. Over priced currently. Not happy.
pretty cool course
interesting layout, not long but has it's own challenger. almost plays like a links course and keepsm you on your toes. pace was bad due to one grp.. course cant prevent that..greens super fast and game needs to be asdjusted. made it a little more challenging and a little more fun. will be better when airways grow in weekend goldfers need a bit more cushion. definateky coming back.
Castle Bay Review
We spend about 10 weeks a year in Wrightsville Beach and I always play Castle Bay at least once during each visit. I enjoy the layout and the conditions. The value for the cost is the best deal in the area.
Links course with limited trouble
To be fair, played after what felt like two weeks of rain. Forgiving. I like to go here when I haven’t swung the club in a while to get my confidence up.
Golf club rental
Worst rental set for my son I ever saw - for $30 !! Top Flite - really???
Ever hear of Callaway Or Titleist ? Get some class...?
Was told on the phone furthermore that the rental would be $20 instead of $30 as it is the end of the season and they were pretty used.
Obviously the guy at the desk when I got there didn’t feel the same.
Course still drying out
We like playing this course for its forgiveness but with all the rain this year the course still has its issues. Greens are in very good shape and well maintained. We were stuck behind a fore some that didn’t let us play through until the turn at 10.
