Can't Count on Them
Beware of your reservation. I booked a 530 tee time on golfnow this past Sunday. There were tee times up to 6pm showing that day. I drove 30 minutes to the course to find the gate shut. It was windy but not raining. No phone call, no email that they were closing, nothing. I had even done an "early check in" online and pre-paid. I thought for sure if they were closed I would have been notified when I did that. I stopped by the pro shop 2 days later to let them know what happened, and they couldn't care less. "Sorry" they muttered. "We have nothing to do with golfnow" they said. No offer of a rain check, no empathy, nothing.
Chatuge Shores Golf Course review
I have been playing golf for 50+ years. During that time, my handicap has ranged from 4 to 18 as of today. I have played all over the United Srates and even overseas in multiple countries. Of all the golf courses i’ve played I can’t think of one other course that was in worst condition as Chatuge Shores. EVERY green had damage that you were expected to putt through. Greens were running about a 6 or 7 because they hadn’t been mowed. The sad part is much this could be resolved with regular aeration and top dressing a couple of times a year. It was also take someone weeding the greens to get the clumps of broad leaf grass out of the greens. Obviously ether they have no superintendent or the just don’t care. The course design isn’t awful but they do have 5 or 6 poorly designed holes (snap doglegs)
The biggest travesty is they charged me $66 to play this embarrassment of a golf course that isn’t worth 6 cents. This was my first and last time to play this awful course. There are plenty of good, well maintained golf courses around Hiawassee! Don’t waste your time or money on this course.

Price
I consider this my home course and I will continue to play here for years to come. With that being said the price point is just too high for this course. I love the convenience of how close it is and the staff is great but that about it. Greens have definitely gotten better over the years but the fairways can be shaky. Pace of play is always an issue for me here. But it is very laid back and most of the holes are good. If the price reflected the quality of the course there would be no complaints.
Friendly Farm
Love the Hayesville area, and really wanted to like this course. I’m a member at a public course. Don’t expect country club amenities. The staff was friendly here, as were the people we encountered. Definitely the good ole boy crowd, which I love. My best description of this course, however, is goat farm minus the goats. Patchy, infected greens that were essentially like putting on a glass Plinko board. Grass clippings all over the fairways and even the parking lot. Fairways are the rough on a higher quality course, their rough is pasture grass above your ankles. Very narrow in places which added a bit more challenge, otherwise very simplistic for higher handicaps. This place could be much nicer with some turf management expertise and general landscape management. FOR SURE not worth $60 a person. Unfortunately in such bad shape that we were glad to get rained out on 8 and did not ask for a rain check for the back 9. GolfNow’s photo size requirements are too small for iPhone photos.
Love this course
Just forgiving enough for a once a week player. The course is beautiful! The greens are fast and challenging. The fairways are nice and wide. The staff were extremely kind and accommodating. I can't think of anything negative. It's an older course. We loved it!
Entire Course - Ground Under Repair
The entire front 9 and part of the back 9 should be considered ground under repair. I've played it several times over several years and this is the worse condition I have ever seen it in.
Greens are in terrible shape and they are mowing, but poorly. It's sad as the course has a really good layout could be special.
Scenic and a bit challenging
I loved the layout and scenery! Some of the greens were in poor shape, but most were very good. Great, friendly staff! Unfortunately snack bar/ restaurant had been closed for quite a while. Food and drink were limited to cans, bottles, and packaged snacks.
PS: Don't follow Google directions from Franklin. Turn directly off Rt 69. Only about a half mile. Weaving through the neighborhoods was scenic, but not the easiest route.
Nice layout
Had a great day except for the heat, but that's summertime for you. The gentleman at the counter was very friendly. Pace if play way excellent. The only downside was a few of the greens were in rough shape and all were kind of baked out. They were also slow for the thinnest of the grass. Fairways were in good shape.
Could be better
Aside from greens 1 & 18, the greens were in good shape. The layout of the course makes for a really fun golf course, not long, mostly forgiving, with a few challenging holes. The maintenance crew was working hard throughout the course, and were very polite and showed etiquette throughout our round. They just do not appear to have the equipment or the crew to maintain the golf course to the level it could/should be.
Good coarse
Keep greens looking good. First couple had some burn marks rest were fine. Imply to all golfers to please repair your ball marks
