Cummings Cove Golf & Country Club
About
Nestled within the Blue Ridge Mountains, Cummings Cove Golf & Country Club is peacefully tucked away with the Great Smokies sheltering it to the west. It offers some of the most stunning views of any golf course in western North Carolina. Although it feels remote, Asheville is less than half an hour away. The mountainous surroundings provide a dramatically hilly terrain that is ideal for a challenging round of golf. Players will face plenty of uneven lies on this layout. The elevation changes also provide some interesting risk-reward opportunities throughout the golf course. Mature trees frame most of the holes and the small, sloped greens are often framed with bunkers. The Cummings Cove layout seems unusually short at only 6,415 yards from the back tees but it's not to be underestimated. The undulating terrain makes it feel much longer.

Nice, fair, pretty layout
Very nice course in quite good condition,. Excellent variety of distance and type of holes - up, down, doglegs left & right. Greens in nice condition but are pretty slow. Just need to get used to that.
Staff friendly and helpful.
Well worth playing.
Mountain course
This is a beautiful course. We had to play cart path only which turned it into a long day. I would want to play it again if CPO was in place.
Greens were good , Fairways in nice condition.
I really think it is a gem, I will play it again.
Great course
Beautiful course great value ! We play this course every time we are in the area.
A Hidden Gem
A buddy and I drove down from Asheville to play this course, and we were not disappointed. While it's a little out of the way and off the beaten path, it is definitely worth the drive to play here. Once we found the parking lot, we walked into what we were told is a brand new pro shop (2 weeks old), which smelled brand new (love that smell).
The golf course itself is fantastic, with the exception being the first two holes. They start you off with this par 5 where you have to hit it over the road. And as first timers here I had no idea that hitting to the left side of the fairway would mean I am blocked from having any sort of shot at the green, or even the fairway ahead of us. The 2nd hole has a tree that blocks the right side of the tee box, so even though the hole is a short par 3, the tree means that you can't shape a shot right to left. Just kind of goofy. But once you settle in after that nonsense, the rest of the course is fantastic. A caution to higher handicappers; bring lots of balls, as if you don't hit it straight you will lose quite a few. I'm a 6 handicap and lost 4 balls today, if that helps anyone gauge anything at all. But that was me pulling drives left all day into trees where the ball vanishes.
The green complexes here are fantastic to putt on. I love bent grass greens and these were among the best conditioned greens I have played in quite some time.
Another of the "oops, I didn't realize that," is that if you play from the tips you'll be faced with three really long par 3s on the back nine. The 10th hole being 195 yards over water is a daunting challenge to pretty much most golfers. So you might want to move up a tee if you haven't played here before just to break this course in more comfortably.
The course layout is a healthy mix of 18 different holes, and I was definitely challenged throughout the round in adjusting to another hole where I was trying to figure out how to play it.
I will definitely return to this hidden gem, because it's a great value at the $40 I paid to play here. And yes, there are some fantastic mountain views, especially on the last 4 or 5 holes.
Some things to know
We enjoyed our round, the course was beautiful and fun to play. There are some challenging holes, but the course was fair for us (20 handicappers). Some things to know: 1- the clubhouse is being renovated, so there is no food or drinks other than some snacks and drinks in a small refrigerator, 2- limited access to rest rooms in the clubhouse, 3- staff seems to be all retirees who play there. Friendly enough, but more volunteers than staff, 4- no pro shop, you check in in the cart garage in what looks like a storage closet, although I’m sure that’s just until the clubhouse is done. Some Tee boxes and fairways are a little rough, but playable.. No practice range. So a nice course, but not a resort experience, if that’s what you’re looking for.
WOW!!! Spectacular!!
This is a fantastic place to play golf!! The course is beautiful, tough and offers challenges for all levels of golfers. The views and scenery are amazing!! Lots of maintenance done on course and it shows in its condition. The greens a bit slow as they had been punched a few weeks ago but to be expected this time of year. We loved everything about this place!! Keep in mind, clubhouse renos underway, so limited facilities for now.
Good mountain golf
Area just had to much rain. Course was in decent condition anyway. Greens were aerated 2 weeks ago and we’re still bumpy and slow but to be expected. Great layout. Would recommend it especially if it dries out. Pro shop and restaurant are being totally redone so bring all your necessities
Waste of money
This course is going to hide by the fact that they had recently aerated their greens, which were miserable, but the rest of the course was also in terrible condition and so was their clubhouse, which is under construction. They should not charge more than $15 for what I experienced on Sunday. I am not a local, was playing through on the way to Augusta, it was definitely the lowlight of the trip. The course has great potential, but it was in rough shape.
Winter Construction FYI
I play here about 4-6 times per year. Typical winter conditions right now, yellow fairways, average greens, no water coolers etc. BUT there is major construction happening by hole 11, loud machinery clearing lots for new homes as well as other home repairs happening along some holes in addition to roosters and other typical noise. Also a new pro shop Ian being built / restaurant closed so bring water and food for the next few months. They are hoping to be done by April but most likely sometime in May.
Overall it’s still one of the best mountain courses within 45 min of Asheville along with Maggie Valley when you book hot deals. Also, there is never any rangers so be aware during busy times. There are many locals / members with there own custom golf carts who are typically friendly nice.
Sweet course
Cummings is a nice course with friendly staff. The course has some challenge to it and great views on a few holes.
Fun Course
Course in great shape, friendly staff, great sandwich to go from restaurant. Will definitely play again
Very fun mountain course ... interesting holes most with great vistas. I’ll definitely be back!
Decent Test
Have played CC a few times with my wife. She’s a 27, I’m a 4. Good shot values and layout for each of us. Back 9 is more challenging and scenic. Conditions usually are acceptable for a semi private, baffling though that there are so many unfilled divots and unrepaired ball marks on the otherwise decent greens. Major drawback is lack of driving range. I guess the price reflects this, but hitting 10 year old balls off of 10 year old mats into netting is disappointing.
WONDERFUL DAY
OUTSTANDING STAFF., FROM PRO SHOP TO DINNNG. THE COURSE IS PERFECT FOR A MID TO HIGH HANDICAPPER.
Château Élan Stay & Play Golf Package
I played it today and the greens are in fantastic shape, and the rest of the course is in great condition. Sorry it ruined your trip, but that was just bad timing.
