Nestled within the Blue Ridge Mountains, Cummings Cove Golf & Country Club is peacefully tucked away with the Great Smokies sheltering it to the west. It offers some of the most stunning views of any golf course in western North Carolina. Although it feels remote, Asheville is less than half an hour away. The mountainous surroundings provide a dramatically hilly terrain that is ideal for a challenging round of golf. Players will face plenty of uneven lies on this layout. The elevation changes also provide some interesting risk-reward opportunities throughout the golf course. Mature trees frame most of the holes and the small, sloped greens are often framed with bunkers. The Cummings Cove layout seems unusually short at only 6,415 yards from the back tees but it's not to be underestimated. The undulating terrain makes it feel much longer.

Cummings

Great course to find out just how good your iron play is! Not very long but narrow and unforgiving. Defense of this course is its fast greens and slope! Most putts will have break, some will have lots of break!

Not your tipical grip and Rip course but a great challenge!

Great Service

I thought the staff was very friendly and the course was very nice. Due to the amount of rain fall they received over the past few days and weeks the fairways were in bad shape. I think that once they are able to work on them it is a very beautiful course.

Just not there yet

This is my favorite course in the area. It’s just not in the shape I expect at this time of the year. The greens have not responded well to yearly maintenance and still are bumpy at best. The fairways are coming in, but still not where they’ve been in the past. A little disappointed in the condition compared to other courses in the area. Still love the layout and challenge the course presents.

Slow coming out of winter

The course is usually in much better condition. Greens have not responded to aerification (over a month ago) and are still bumpy. Fairways are slowly coming in, but not where they should be at this point. Very wet spring has hurt the course. I still enjoy playing here as it is a shorter course that requires accuracy off the tee.

OK

The course was not in as good shape as a past round there last year. Many courses in the south including this one suffered grass problems with three weeks in Jan and Feb of warm weather. This caused grasses to start coming in only to be killed by subsequent very cold weather. Grass coming in well is running 4 to 6 weeks later than usual. This is a great course with great Mountain View’s. Challenging layout with some narrow fairways. We still had a great time despite grass issues on fairways and greens. Give it a month and things should come around fine.

Will get better

Greens were just punched but not bad. They are suffering along with many NC and SC courses which had a warm period of time in January Feb that started the grass growing only to have it stunted by following cold spell. Course condition right now is not 4 + stars. Layout is tight but very interesting with great Mountain View’s. A pleasure to play anything.

Million Dollar views - well worth the price of admission

Cummings Cove is a beautiful course- the vistas at some of the holes will take your breath away. It is a wonderful course with 3-5 's on the back nine giving you plenty of birdie opportunities. The course is narrow and I am sure no one else has never done this but I was thinking that hole 18 was the green for hole number one). They were aerating the greens and that did give me an extra discount. Even though the course was packed, it flowed well and we finished our 18 holes in under 4 hours. I will play this often.

Challenging to putt

Usually enjoy playing Cumming Cove. Unfortunately the greens had just been aerated and it was a sea of sand once you got on the putting green.

That said, it was a beautiful day even with a two club wind and less than ideal putting conditions. In a couple of weeks things should be fine.

It is a challenging, scenic golf course. A good example of mountain golf.

Always pleasant

It is a closed course for me. I always enjoy playing there. Each hole has its Challenge and many have great views. Have your camera ready when you approach the par-3 16th hole.

Worth a Play

Cummings Cove is a semi private community located in the Mtns of NC. Elegant homes line some of holes, but never close enough to come into play. My buddy and I played this course 3 times in the last year. It being Feb. still plays like winter condions, that being said the course was very playable considering all the rain we’ve had this week. Fun, challenging and interesting layout front and back. Some elevated tee boxes present pretty views, especially Spring through Fall seasons. This last time there the very scenic water feature on the 10th hole was drained. Apparently repairing damage from recent heavy rains. Nice carts with GPS Monitors on board. The one drawback is NO driving range. I recommend this course and it’s one of the better and more scenic public courses in the area. If played on a good day I can almost guarantee you’ll want to come back.

Very nice!

I hope I get another chance to play CC again in our travels. The front is a bit tight, but playable for an 18 hdcp like myself. Back nine is more forgiving and the vistas are amazing.

Good Test, Aesthetically Pleasing

As someone who plays Florida golf most of the time (the exception being my annual venture to the Carolinas for the World Amateur in Myrtle Beach), Cummings Cove was an elevating delight. Pleasant staff is always a good thing, and the folks at CC were definitely pleasant outside the clubhouse and in. I didn't even mind paying $12 (before tip) for a turkey sandwich and fries. The strength of CC is it's elevation changes, it's lovely views, and the need for choosing the right club. The greens showed some wear and tear, and as with most courses, you had to fix more than your fair share of ball marks, but they still rolled true...and fast...The bent grass greens had me baffled or I might have put up a decent score. The course was in good shape. It was good to have ice and water at a course in the Carolinas. That's standard in FL but not so much in this region. I wish there was a driving range, as opposed to the net they have, but I haven't paid my dues to get into golfing heaven yet. That really was my only disappointment at CC. I was lucky that Cliff invited me to play along, because his local knowledge certainly helped me navigate my way around Cummings Cove, a must-play if you're in the area. Thanks Cliff!

Full disclosure would help

Great course, great condition

BUT ! Knowing there is no refund with GolfNow, I first called Cummings Cove and inquired what the the condition were. I was told the course was in great shape and all was good. So I then booked tee times.

To my surprise when we arrived it was cart path only and had been the day before when I called.

Having recently had knee surgery it was a very hurtful round.

Please more honest next time

Full disclosure would be helpful !

Love this course

Fun layout. Shot makers course. Not one you can overpower. Lot of doglegs. I think i hit driver 4 times. Great shape. Always a few degrees cooler than my home in SC. Never seen a more overpriced grill. 10 bucks for a hot dog is nuts. Was a really good hot dog but wow.
