Nestled within the Blue Ridge Mountains, Cummings Cove Golf & Country Club is peacefully tucked away with the Great Smokies sheltering it to the west. It offers some of the most stunning views of any golf course in western North Carolina. Although it feels remote, Asheville is less than half an hour away. The mountainous surroundings provide a dramatically hilly terrain that is ideal for a challenging round of golf. Players will face plenty of uneven lies on this layout. The elevation changes also provide some interesting risk-reward opportunities throughout the golf course. Mature trees frame most of the holes and the small, sloped greens are often framed with bunkers. The Cummings Cove layout seems unusually short at only 6,415 yards from the back tees but it's not to be underestimated. The undulating terrain makes it feel much longer.

Sandy Greens

The course has improved since last fall - when it was truly bad. There's grass now and it appears they have made an effort to address drainage issues.

We've had a mild winter in Western NC, so most courses have been able to begin spring maintenance a little earlier. We were not aware that the greens had been "sanded" until we arrived. According to a local who lives on the course, they have been most successful in "over sanding" the greens. In this particular case, it was tantamount to putting in a sand trap; the sand was thick and wet and as a result, generally a waste of money.

Cummings cove is a genuinely nice course, somewhat challenging and the redesign of the back nine has been a great improvement. Perhaps it's best to wait a week or so for the sand to settle; I recommend that you play the course - just not until the greens are playable.

Early surprise....warm weather in early March....tee them up!

Was cart path only but we finished in just over 3 hours. Course is narrow on the front but opens up some on the back.....not long but course management is a must. Winter time so the Bermuda grass rough was not a factor but you can see that it would be "rough" when green. Speaking of greens....nice and rolled true. Overall very pleased with our round

Small Course with Big Challenges

Given the small area with which to create an 18 hole course within an upscale housing development in a mountainous area of western North Carolina, Cummings Cove is an interesting choice and study. It is certainly not long, but still does have a few lengthy holes to deal with - but its allure to players is the challenge of gravity when paired with small greens usually having a great deal of slope.

A good or long player feels looking at the scorecard that the course will be a "pushover", only to realize (despite how many rounds logged) frustration is dealing with the gravity n' green conundrum. But does not "hope spring eternal"?

The course is pleasant and has a couple of amazing views on the back 9 - so one's eyes can acclaim the beauty even if the scorecard does not.

A fair fight

Overall the course is in great shape. Unfortunately we had a dry summer so through the winter they are not allowing carts on the fairways. None the less it is a course that challenges every element of your game. Some holes are tight Fairways some are risk big win big and the greens are fast and sculptured. That means you better be sure you read your break right. Would challenge anyone to play it.

great rate - fun and challenging course

Got a fantastic last minute $10 rate so had to play this course for the first time - pace of play was slow but expected that since it has a membership - greens were hard to read so many more putts than normal and shot placement was tricky without prior knowledge but still managed to shoot my hdcp. A few holes are crazy esp. the par 3s which only reward a well placed green shot - some with long carries over water or dried yup areas from the drought. I will play it again when conditions improve in the springtime but probably @ a higher rate.

Interesting course

This is a demanding course to play in the drought conditions we experienced. Lots of roll can be good, or bad. If the conditions continue accuracy and prudence are required. By all means give this one a play!

Great conditions despite drought

Course was playing fast due to extremely dry conditions, but greens held good shots. Bermuda rough was long, making it challenging and hard to find balls hit off line. Greens were rolling really true and were lightning fast down hill. Stay below the hole!

Enjoyable

The staff was very welcoming and helpful. Although the region is in a drought, the fairways and blue tees all had very good grass. The greens were a little thin and not very receptive, but the ball rolled smoothly. The GPS in the cart is a helpful feature.

Challenging but fun course

We visited the Asheville area and wanted to play golf and even though this course was a bit of a ride it was well worth it. The layout was challenging and conditions were very good. We played mid-day so it was a bit slow, which was great for us. We finished in 3 1/2 hours. Fun course, friendly staff would highly recommend the track.

Fun course

Multiple sets of tees make this course very enjoyable if you pick the right set. As a high teen handicapper I played the silvers and thoroughly enjoyed my round. Lots of interesting par 5s and threes. The greens rolled very true! P.S. the philly cheeseteak in the clubhouse is excellent.

Good course management and score well

With good course management you can score well on the tight fairways and get some nice bounces from hits off the sides. Bring extra balls anyway. The rough is cut just long enough that it makes it hard to find your ball unless you walk right over it.

Played mid-day after a tournament and the course was wide open. Not many flat tee boxes, but the greens are very manageable.

Had an amazing rate which made the day even better. Service in the restaurant is a wee bit slow.

Nice course..

Great value and the course was in good shape, the only issue was cart path only on the front nine but did not have a handicap flag for the folks that need assistance.

Good course

Only complaint is the lack of an on course ranger. A group of six holding the whole course up and no one doing anything about it is not good . 90 degree temps and slow play does not make for a happy camper.
