Nestled within the Blue Ridge Mountains, Cummings Cove Golf & Country Club is peacefully tucked away with the Great Smokies sheltering it to the west. It offers some of the most stunning views of any golf course in western North Carolina. Although it feels remote, Asheville is less than half an hour away. The mountainous surroundings provide a dramatically hilly terrain that is ideal for a challenging round of golf. Players will face plenty of uneven lies on this layout. The elevation changes also provide some interesting risk-reward opportunities throughout the golf course. Mature trees frame most of the holes and the small, sloped greens are often framed with bunkers. The Cummings Cove layout seems unusually short at only 6,415 yards from the back tees but it's not to be underestimated. The undulating terrain makes it feel much longer.

Cummings Cove

Played at a reduced rate due to the greens being aerated. Fairways and tee boxes were average at best. Only a few groups on the golf course today, and the pace of play was still a problem. Green fees are usually in the $50 to $60 dollar range. There are many better golf courses in the area to choose from.

Tough but Beautiful

No easy holes here. Every shot can find trouble. Several fairways were under repair, but overall the course was well groomed. Slow foursome was a problem, but that can happen anywhere.

Tough

Beautiful scenery. It is a very tough course unless you are a solid player. It can be very frustrating if you ball is just a little of course.

Needs some work

Great staff...EXPENSIVE food and beverage. $30.00 for 2 dogs, club sandwich and 2 beers? Country Club atmosphere, mostly members play. A few really bad fairways in need of grass and seed, greens in good shape. Very scenic with plenty of sand and water challenges. Fairly tight fairways lined with homes. We played in blistering heat which I'm sure influenced sour taste....will try again after fairways come back in and temps drop.

Enjoyable afternoon

Started on the back nine due to cart path paving prep on front. Pace of play was VERY slow for the first nine, possibly due to locals group that just plays 9. Much improved on remaining nine. Greens were excellent. Fairways had substantial winter kill bare spots, but you can see that management is addressing the issues as well as possible. Bunkers not prepped for play on this day, but playable. A lot of new sod on tee boxes. Grounds maintenance around water features could be much better and would help to make this course shine. Starter and pro shop staff were great. Good value for GolfNow hot deal price, but I'd have a hard time paying retail for the course in its current condition. In better condition, the course would be awesome.

Overpriced and handicapped unfriendly

Beautiful layout, excellent facilities.

However, the course is in deplorable condition. Many fairways are mostly bare ground. Several of the holes are CPO (cart path only), even though they're dry and in good condition.

Additionally, there are no facilities for the handicapped.

I won't play it again.

Cummings Cove First Time

This was our first experience at Cummings Cove. A few of the fairways had been aerated and were in tough condition. Some fairways had some bare spots. Greens were difficult for us. Overall, we enjoyed the course.

Good value

Played a few times now and will continue to come back. Could use better drainage on many holes, funny to have to play winter rules in June. Overall a good deal at discounted price, regular fees are overpriced.

Good mountain course

The course was in rough shape due to the extreme cold this past winter. Some fairways and tee boxes were bare. They had this same problem a couple of years ago and I'm sure they will recover again. Have played this course several times over the years and it offers a good test of golf with scenic mountain views .

Cummigs Cove

Round started with a super friendly and helpful staff welcoming us to the course and getting our round started. The golf course itself offers very good hole layout, great greens and overall good condition for this time of year. The fairways had not fully come in but expect that to happen in the next few weeks. Just overall a very good day. Senior tees make the course playable for everyone.

Great greens!

It was a good day at Cummings Cove. The greens are "professional". It is still early for the fairways to completely green-up. Staff is courteous and as well as players.

Ok place to enjoy golf

Fairways and tees not yet greened up from the cold winter. Greens in nice shape. Course needs to add some length. Staff is very nice.

Great mountain views

May is early for fairway Bermuda grass to have fully developed so a few bare spots linger. The tee boxes could use a bit of grass and maintenance but I give this course high marks for layout and mountain views! The views can overwhelm your game if not careful since the course requires you to pick a target on many shots.

Cummings Cove Course Conditions

The winter of 2014/2015 was pretty cold and our bermuda grass fairways and bent grass greens are taking a little longer to grow this season. The course conditions will greatly improve over the next 30 days as the grass begins to grow. For the golfers that experienced poor course conditions in April, please come back in June and see how great this golf course is.

Fairway Repair

I am not one to write much reviews but I felt I needed to say something about this course. First, the course has some unique and fun holes that make a challenging round of golf. However, the tee boxes were in terrible condition where there was little grass around many of the boxes. Also, the fairways had a lot of weeds in it. Even though the fairways were not cut, it was evident there still was a weed problem. It looks like there needs to be some form of pre-emergent sprayed to knock back the weeds . This course may be better if they can get the grass to grow in the fairways, but it was evident there were some drainage problems as well. Hopefully they can get the grass to grow strong or control their weed problems to make this a better course.
