Nestled within the Blue Ridge Mountains, Cummings Cove Golf & Country Club is peacefully tucked away with the Great Smokies sheltering it to the west. It offers some of the most stunning views of any golf course in western North Carolina. Although it feels remote, Asheville is less than half an hour away. The mountainous surroundings provide a dramatically hilly terrain that is ideal for a challenging round of golf. Players will face plenty of uneven lies on this layout. The elevation changes also provide some interesting risk-reward opportunities throughout the golf course. Mature trees frame most of the holes and the small, sloped greens are often framed with bunkers. The Cummings Cove layout seems unusually short at only 6,415 yards from the back tees but it's not to be underestimated. The undulating terrain makes it feel much longer.

Slow Play killed it today!

Played this course many times, my favorite local. This time of year tee boxes are not in the greatest shape. Greens, fairways, rough all played like normal.

Biggest complaint: If you have a guy standing in the fairway ALL DAY LONG, please let him play through. Totally ridiculous on the course today. A ranger would have been a welcome sight on this day. Played the entire front 9 behind a group of two (almost a 2 hour 9 and I was a single)!!! Here's another hint, if you can't drive over 200 yards, don't play from the tips! Go to the whites and be done with it, you are only aggravating yourself and everyone behind you.

Sorry, this review is more about golf etiquette then the course, but I've reviewed this course before and it is still a tremendous track in my opinion. Views are amazing, greens are 8/10, fairways 8/10, tee boxes 6/10 (seasonal thing).

Fantastic course

I've played a lot of courses in the Northeast TN area, but this is the first time I've played here. In terms of the overall experience, this ranks as #1 for me.

The only negative I have is that the course was hard to find because something has happened with the way it comes up on the GPS. That's not the fault of the course, I know. Make sure to drive past the left turn that is a dead end for a mile or so and look for the billboard on the right that indicates the left turn.

I missed my tee time because I couldn't find the course, but the staff was great to fit me in. I got paired up with someone who didn't have a tee time. This place is busy, so I don't recommend just showing up. There is no driving range, but they have very nice warm up nets with balls provided for free.

The course is absolutely beautiful. The fairways are tight, but they are like carpet. The course is short, but the hazards are well laid out and there are many doglegs so that it doesn't play short. The fairways are also narrow. There's plenty of water, sand, undulations in the fairways, etc. The greens were very fast and tricky, which also makes up for the short course.

One comment: I'm noticing more and more greens lately where players don't repair their ball marks. If you're one of those people, start being more considerate of the golf course and other players.

Water, ice and bathrooms are available every few holes. The water is the best tasting I've ever gotten on a golf course.

This is a 5 star course...don't miss it.

Great Condition

Even with mother nature being bipolar with the weather the previous week, 80 degrees on Wednesday and 5 inches of snow on Friday, the course was in excellent shape. Greens were smooth and fast and the fairways were plush.

A wonderful golfing experience

From the very start my experience was nothing short of great. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The course was in very good shape, with the exception of the sand traps because of the recent rain. The tee boxes, fairways, greens and cart paths were in very good condition. The holes had a good mixture of straight, doglegs, uphills and downhills. We experienced some delays but that was good because it gave us more time to enjoy the scenery, which was fantastic. I will definitely return for another round.

Fair and Challenging

Small greens, blind tee shots and speedy greens make for an excellent test of your golf skills! Elevated greens give the player more to think about when the views are distraction enough. Two par fives at 17 and 18 give you a chance to lower your score to keep you coming back. I'll definitely play here again! Thanks for a great round Cummings Cove!

Nice course, expensive food

Nice course. Somewhat challenging and in fairly good condition.

Negative is food prices. $8.00 for a hotdog is about triple the price everywhere else.

Well maintaine course and clubhouse.

This course was a pleasure and a challenge. I took the advice of others on this site and played the back tees. This certainly made some of the holes (especially some of their long par threes) a real test. Some great views help to take the sting out of those wayward shots. The golf shop and dining areas are fresh, bright, and airy. The staff were particularly friendly and helpful.
The only issue might be the slow play: lots of retiree foursomes not in any particular hurry. OK for me since I'm one of them!

Cummings Cove

On behave of the entire staff at Cummings Cove Golf &CC we thank you for all your comments both good and bad. We continually work to improve the condition of the course so all players enjoy there round. The very harsh winter of 2013/2014 in Western North Carolina caused damage to many of our tee boxes. Repairs to theses tee boxes and fairways from winter kill are complete with new sod in place. Pace of play here as with other course remains a concern. Our carts are equipped with GPS to help monitor the daily pace of play. Again, thanks for your comments and thanks for playing Cummings Cove Golf & CC

Slow

Played in 4hrs 56min and never saw a ranger.
Waited on all 18 holes. Cart path only because of wet conditions. I'll give them 15 minutes for the wet conditions. Should have played in no more than 4 1/2 hrs. One of our favorite courses but extremely slow play takes all the fun out of it.

great value!

The course was very wet after several days of rain. The drainage was very good but no roll. The greens were fantastic and other than the occasional puddle the course was in very good shape. Since it was cart paths only the round was in excess of 4 1/2 hours but no biggie. The price was $33 which is a bargain for this course. It is a little tricky to find but a hidden jewel and worth it!

Great Mountain Course

I had not been back to Cummings Cove for several years. The course has matured into a great mountain course. It is deceptively short, which presents its own challenges. One of our foursome says, "I think I need drive on only one hole." Control is the name of the game here. Beautiful scenery makes the day pleasurable as well. The grounds staff and club staff are tops.

OVerall Great

Some of the Tees are are a lilttle burnt. Some bad spots in Fairways but overall they were great. Greens are very difficult but are in great condition. Speed was prob 7.5 -8.5 but thats prob about as fast as they should be with all the slope. Bunkers were not in good shape but late afternoon t storms make them hard to keep in good shape with all the washing out...... Overall Course was great shape and it was worth the $.......Course is short but very tight. If u are 10 or less play the back tees for sure. par 3's are tough... Gps in Carts are very nice......Nice cart staff

Interesting Mountain Course

Really enjoyed this course. Very much a mountain course, with elevation changes, doglegs, interesting views and quite a few tight tee shots, particularly from the blue or gold tees.

Despite the rough winter in the area, the course was in great shape, including the fairways. Loved the layout ... each hole was a gem. The par 3's were particularly interesting . A great variety of holes and distances... I think I used every club in the bag. Carts were great, and the GPS system was about the best I have ever used. We did see a ranger, and pace of play was pretty good. Staff friendly and accommodating. The greens were in great shape but featured a lot of pitch. It will take a few times to learn the best spots to put the ball on the greens to avoid almost certain 3 putts.

No practice facility, but there was a large net to hit into to warm up by the first tee.

We plan to come back and play this course again.
