Nestled within the Blue Ridge Mountains, Cummings Cove Golf & Country Club is peacefully tucked away with the Great Smokies sheltering it to the west. It offers some of the most stunning views of any golf course in western North Carolina. Although it feels remote, Asheville is less than half an hour away. The mountainous surroundings provide a dramatically hilly terrain that is ideal for a challenging round of golf. Players will face plenty of uneven lies on this layout. The elevation changes also provide some interesting risk-reward opportunities throughout the golf course. Mature trees frame most of the holes and the small, sloped greens are often framed with bunkers. The Cummings Cove layout seems unusually short at only 6,415 yards from the back tees but it's not to be underestimated. The undulating terrain makes it feel much longer.

Way Overrated

This course is way overrated. While the pro shop staff is very friendly and the landscape offers some great views, this course does not deserve 4 stars.
The Good: The greens were generally in good shape and rolled true. The staff is very friendly and helpful.
The Bad: The design is just weird, especially from the back tees.
The Ugly: You will find 1/2 the tee boxes are nothing but weeds or just plain dirt. The fairways are patchy. Trees are overgrowing the already narrow fairways. I have seen municipal courses in better condition. The course didn't get this way in a month--- it took years of neglect and there are no signs of a renovation.

There are so many better options in WNC.

Great Conditions, Tough Course

Cummings Cove is in very good condition. I played as a single and groups let me play through graciously. It is a good layout for mid and low handicappers. Beginners should consider an easier course. You will have many varied lies on the fairways. \\\\\the greens have significant slopes, but they are not ridiculous. It is a premium mountain course at a fair price. I will play it multiple times this season.

Great mountain course

Greens are usually some of the best in the region for a public course. Lots of elevation change and some absolutely gorgeous views, especially on the back nine from hole 16. Front 9 is tree lined most of the way around and the back nine opens up a little bit more. Not a course where you can bomb driver every hole but very easy to shoot a good score if you keep it straight off the tee. 5 par 5's with 3 of them easily reachable for good players gives you plenty of opportunity to score. Some of the par 3's are tough, especially holes 8, 13, and 16. Overall a great experience if you're looking for good conditions and a fun layout in the mountains.

This course has great scenery and long-range mountain views.

If you enjoy mostly uphill, downhill and sidehill lies, this is a course you must try. Fairways in reasonable shape; greens in good shape. Staff and starter extremely accommodating. Recommend not playing Monday or Wednesday mornings because of members plays. Awesome views from most holes.

Just okay

Decent course. A little proud of their rates for the course conditions. Greens are pretty sweet though. GPS in the carts are a bonus. I will play there again I'm sure but it will always be with GolfNow rates. And most of the guys working in the pro shop are less than par with the customers...

Cummings Cove is very nice.

Nice course, good for women. I shot my handicap. The white tees are a lot harder on the back, average 4 to 5 stokes more. The forward tees are similar front and back. Very lovely course, fall colors were great. Just starting to go dormant.

Great course, great location for out of town trip

I was planning an out of town golf trip for a few months. I found Cummings Cove on golfnow.com and viewed the course's website as well. I was hooked from the start! Al in the pro shop greeted my friend and I with a warm welcome and a smile! Al took a few minutes to walk us through the course on the scorecard, pointing out little tips for each hole. We then proceeded to the pratice putting green and awaited our tee time. The starter even called our name to annouce the first tee was ready for us! Standing on the first tee I began to get excited at what promised to be a great round of golf at a great course! The first thing I noticed about the course was how clean and beautiful it was maintained. Everything from the tee boxes, yardage markers and signage was in very good, detailed shape. The fairways and rough were in excellent condition. The greens were remarkable and rolled very fast and true. The golf carts featured GPS which was a plus and we used it on almost every shot. The front nine is narrow and the back nine is more open. Nevertheless, I used my driver off the tee only 3 times during the round. The par 3's are tough, no way around it. The par 5's are just plain fun and long! It was my first time playing a mountain course but it will not be my last. Cummings Cove is a beaituful mixture of nature and man made golf playground. I found every hole enjoyable and the views of the mountains were truly breathtaking. My friend and I really enjoyed the peaceful layout and overall conditions of the course. I would recommend if your tee time is before 11AM you eat before arrving at the course as the restraunt did not open until after our tee time. Coffee was free which was a nice treat. My friend and I talked about our day at Cummings Cove during the entire drive back to Atlanta. It was a very positive conversation to say the least. Thank you again to Al and we can't wait to go back to Cummings Cove for another round of peaceful, beautiful mountain golf!

Great! As expected.

I was spending the weekend in Brevard and decided to play based on reviews here. I was not let down. The course was great, in great shape, and very fun. I have no complaints other than a few falling leaves. Next time I'm in town, I'll play again. I played on a Friday at 9am, and it was a little crowded, but we went off first and it still took a little longer to play than I'd expect. Of course, maybe I was going a little slow to enjoy the scenery.

My new favorite

I could not be happier with the decision to try a new course this weekend. Cummings Cove is my new favorite course. A so as you step out of your vehicle, you know you are in for a treat. The view looking down over holes 1,9,10,&18 is magnificent. After taking this all in it is time to play. You will be riding in a golf cart that features a large touch screen gps unit that is nicer than any hand held unit I have seen. The course has a unique layout with 6 par 3s, 7 par 4s, and 5 par 5s. The course is fairly spread out with a lot of twists and turns, and even a few intersections between holes, but you can count on two things; every inch will be very well maintained, and you will encounter some of the most beautiful view you will ever come across in a golf course. I could ramble on forever about this great course, but the bottom line is that if you decide to try out Cummings Cove, you will not be disappointed.

Fall golf at Cummings Cove

I had a 10 am tee time on a Sunday. They were short of staff (no one at the bag drop, no starter) but the guy in the pro shop was very accommodating and friendly. The course was in good shape - typical fall conditions and the greens had been aerated but were really not bad. It's a fun layout and shot shape and course management are important. Really beautiful views of the mountains - especially from the 16th green! I enjoyed the round and would recommend this course.

Challenge course

Course was in good condition (despite recent rainfall), greens putted very well. Layout is tight and challenging with more emphasis on position than length off the tee and a nice setting within the mountains.

Good Mountain Golf.

This course winds through the hills near Hendersonville, NC. Course is challenging with back tees for added length. Greens and fairways have recovered remarkably well for all the rains we've had this year. Bugs are sometimes an issue, though they were tame the day of our visit.

Course that is fun to play

The course is in great condition. We played the day after a hard rain storm in the area so we could not leave the cart path to get to our ball. This slowed the pace of play somewhat. The greens were in good condition. Looks like they had just been aerated and sanded a week earlier but the putts were pretty true. The full price of around $45 - 50.00 is a little more than I would like to pay for this course. The course most times is not overcrowded and the area is usually very quiet since the neighborhood is a private community.

Fantastic mountain course with unbelievable scenery!

This is an excellent western North Carolina mountain golf course in pristine condition. It is not easy but is very fair...you are rewarded for good shots and penalized for bad ones. The price is very good and the staff and facilities are excellent.

Beautiful Views and Excellent Course

This course requires a wide range of shots off the tee and into the greens. Some holes require iron or wood off the tee due to the winding and sometimes narrow fairways. The greens were in excellent shape and were quite fast compared to Florida greens I usually play on. It rained when we first arrived but the course dried out surprisingly fast. From the tee boxes to the greens it was very well maintained and I look forward to returning to this course soon.
