Some areas are dormant but no grass is growing in others Photo submitted by scsmith63 on 05/01/2015
Course is in awful shape. 16 th hole closed. Greens are bad. Bunkers are awful. Place has become a rip off
Beat the rain
Rain was in the forecast, so the course was empty. Played in 3 1/2 hr. Mountain course with never a flat lie. Greens were moderately fast and many had some kind of turf rot in areas. Fairway grass was a little thin. It would help if they had divot repair bottles on the carts that were full.
Definitely a fun and challenging course. We'll be back
Nice course and layout. Hole #16 still closed due to Hurricane damage.
Great conditions
Course is in awesome conditions. Greens was a little slow but that’s expected this time of year. Staff is always pleasant and courteous.
Course was not in good shape
This course probably used to be fantastic, but those days have passed. Uprooted trees in multiple locations, severely damaged cart paths, weeds growing up everywhere including bunkers, not to mention hole 16 was completely missing (staff did not mention that when we arrived). For $68 definitely not worth it.
Cleghorn could be nice
Pace of play was painfully slow. Cart battery died near club house. Could have been much worse if we had been further from clubhouse. Staff did not seem concerned and there were no apologies. Hole 16 still closed and cart paths are in bad shape.
Disappointed
One hole has been closed for eight months. Cart paths are in terrible shape. Tee boxes lacked grass. Greens and fairways were good. Bunkers were lacking sand and many were full of weeds. The teenage golfers behind us were lacking any golf decoram.
Slow pace rough conditions
Slow pace, rough conditions lots of heavy rough and mud. Greenskeeper stayed with me from like 11-18 it was super distracting. Won’t be rushing back. Will say I’ve played here before and never had any of these issues. Overall good course just a tough day.
Way better than to be expected
Everything about this course was great. The only complaint I have is, the greens were slow but true. Customer service was awesome. I expected this course to be good, but it ended up being pretty amazing. The layout is awesome with pretty wide fairways! The variety of every hole being totally different from one to the other and great elevation changes as well. I would definitely play here again!
Longer course than one would expect
Very nice gentleman in the pro shop. Easy check-in with GolfNow. My partner and I were paired with 2 people - good fellows. Pace of play? 4 hour round - not much waiting between shots. No ranger or beverage cart on Saturday but plenty to choose from at grill at the turn. Nice variety of holes. Played Gold tees from 6200yds. Course definitely plays longer than yardage. Par 3s were very enjoyable. Tee boxes were scruffy, grass had not fully developed in fairways, bunkers had not seen any attention (had not been raked by course maintenance), greens very slow on 75% of holes but were in good shape. Many holes had several uphill shots. *Hole16 closed tldue to damage from Hurricane Helene - understandable. Cart paths were broken in several areas. Rate was $68.00 but would suggest a $55.00 rate on weekend fee. Overall, 3 star rating.
Don’t come here- read review from longtime member
No value for your money. Weeds over growing course, diseased greens, and sand traps all unplayable. Used to be a premier track before the pro and superintendent left in 2023 and Tryon International started managing it. They have no idea what they are doing. Don’t spend your money here - TIEC is also notorious for stiffing (not paying) local small business owners and contractors who perform work on the property.
Overpriced
This course has potential. Price went up when the equestrian center bought the place. Price has come down since, but now being the price of the average course like the others near by, they need to give you what you paid for. Hole 16 got destroyed Sept of ‘24 from Helene, and nothing is done to make up for the lack of a hole, and in 6 months nothing has been repaired. The bunkers for the past 4 times I’ve been there were unplayable. How a course this caliber can leave bunkers not raked or maintained is inexcusable. This same trip the greens were mowed the day before and clippings were all over the green like the bagger wasn’t even working. Morning dew made clippings stick to your ball and putts became slow.
I like the layout as it does require some shots, but those maintenance issues for that price are unacceptable. Will not be back till maybe later in the summer with fingers crossed…
Good course
The course overall was in very good shape for this time of year. The greens were in very good condition just a little on the slow side but rolled really well.
Going green soon at Cleghorn
GREAT LAYOUT
GREEN GRASS COMING
Love the staff and amenities.
