Will be back
Incredible 1st experience here. Would be 5 stars from me if a couple of things were better. The bunkers have more weeds in them than sand and some of the greens have some real rough spots in them. (At least they put pins in best parts of the greens). #16 is closed because of the hurricane so totally understandable. The layout and views are amazing! Would like to do a stay and play here if possible.
The layout of the course is very good.
Greens and fairways were in great shape. One hole has not been repaired since the hurricane last year and is unplayable. Sand traps are not being maintained. When I asked the staff, I was told their maintenance barn was totaly flooded, and all of the equipment has not been replaced yet, i.e, the reason for not maintaining the sand traps.
It’s not what it used to be
This course has significantly gone downhill. I know they had the hurricane, but that was a year ago. The bushes even driving in the parking lot have weeds grown up as tall as the bushes. This is the same maintenance as around the entire course. I can say that the staffs attitudes have improved over previous ownership. This course has a long way to go to regain its reputation.
A lovely ’old school’ course
The layout had the ‘feel’ from the 70’s and 80’s. The course was beautiful except for the cart paths were pretty beat up, a few greens were in kinda rough shape, and hole #16 was closed.
Even with those issues, I would definitely recommend this course! The practice areas were nice, too (driving, pitching, and putting). I had such a great time that I paid to replay another round!
First play
Beautify course with excellent fairways. A few of the greens were in por shape
Mountain Course does not dissapoint!
Cleghorn is a picturesque mountain course that continues to improve under the new ownership. Other than the 16th hole which was totally destroyed by Hurricane Helene, the conditions are very good. They do, however, need to add fresh sand to the traps (much of it was washed away) and the cart paths need to be repaired in places. (It would also be nice to have some ball washers on course but that's never been a deal breaker.)
What this course lacks in length it makes up for in terrain changes requiring self, and course, management.
Hopefully #16 will be rebuilt and the traps refilled in the near future.
Good course
Good course, greens in good shape, fairways in good shape, hole 16 is the only issue since it is closed down
Course is in awful shape. 16 th hole closed. Greens are bad. Bunkers are awful. Place has become a rip off
Beat the rain
Rain was in the forecast, so the course was empty. Played in 3 1/2 hr. Mountain course with never a flat lie. Greens were moderately fast and many had some kind of turf rot in areas. Fairway grass was a little thin. It would help if they had divot repair bottles on the carts that were full.
Definitely a fun and challenging course. We'll be back
Nice course and layout. Hole #16 still closed due to Hurricane damage.
Great conditions
Course is in awesome conditions. Greens was a little slow but that’s expected this time of year. Staff is always pleasant and courteous.
Course was not in good shape
This course probably used to be fantastic, but those days have passed. Uprooted trees in multiple locations, severely damaged cart paths, weeds growing up everywhere including bunkers, not to mention hole 16 was completely missing (staff did not mention that when we arrived). For $68 definitely not worth it.
Cleghorn could be nice
Pace of play was painfully slow. Cart battery died near club house. Could have been much worse if we had been further from clubhouse. Staff did not seem concerned and there were no apologies. Hole 16 still closed and cart paths are in bad shape.
Disappointed
One hole has been closed for eight months. Cart paths are in terrible shape. Tee boxes lacked grass. Greens and fairways were good. Bunkers were lacking sand and many were full of weeds. The teenage golfers behind us were lacking any golf decoram.
